Not sure if you are referring to this post I made:

If so, in this particular case, the post I was challenging was not speculation but was a statement of fact that the only determinant of which devices get Apple Intelligence is the amount of RAM a device has. To my knowledge, Apple has never confirmed that to be the case and third parties have not figured that out, either. It’s one thing to say that you think that may be the case. It’s another thing to state it as fact. In the latter instance, I (and others) want to know what the poster’s authority for that statement is.
100% agree with this. We all say things we think, but stating facts that aren’t confirmed should be sourced.

Yes that’s the one.

I remember watching Craig explain the ram situation in a YouTube video which I cannot find rn. However, under a minute I was able to find this.

Hoping the 16 pro’s have a massive upgrade to the cooling system, I’d rather they just focus on keeping the phone cool over a new chip.

I say this because my phone went into like a limp mode about an hour ago when it was only 80 degrees out, my ac in my car stopped working for whatever reason today so I couldn’t cool it down by having it in its vent mount like normal. But still, I had to find shade, turn the phone off, and wait awhile before it wasn’t burning hot anymore just to charge it. I know it’s on a beta, but doesn’t feel very “pro” to me, and I don’t see why the beta would cause it to get so hot.

Hopefully they have this figured out cause the new phones are only about 6 weeks away. I’ve never seen this warning before.

Wow! Cooling has been an issue since the 14 series, and they have done little to fix it. AI I can only imagine makes this that much more of an issue. They need not worry about making the phone thinner, but just cool it. Good way to ruin the battery really quickly.

They showed the feature at wwdc. They would have defo covered it later with devs through the week and you'll find more on developer.apple.com

PS why do people ask for sources on here? This ain’t no academia you got your answer even though google is a tab away, take it or leave it and do your own research if in doubt…

I thought I’d contribute to the 19 pages of off topic and speculations. Lol

Back on topic. 18.1 b1 seems pretty stable for me. When using the AI features phone gets a bit too warm but in my regular usage it’s been pretty good (especially considering the heatwave we’re currently experiencing in the UK) and battery life has been solid too. I have noticed though in the photos app delete, edit and fave take a couple touches to trigger. This wasn’t an issue on 18.0 b1 to 4.
I don’t remember everything they showed at WWDC. If you’re memory is that good, fantastic!

I ask for sources because I lot of people on here are smarter than me, they provide sources, and so I know where to go next time. What makes you think I didn't try to search other places before asking here?

You make a lot of assumptions. Why so belligerent? Let’s dial back the aggression.

Now, back on topic: I agree, that’s my experience as well. It’ll become more refined, as we know. So far, though, I’m linking the AI.

Yea, instead of ensuring the new phones operate properly in normal conditions like 80 degree weather they keep putting in more powerful chips which nobody is asking for.

I’d rather they make the phone slightly thicker and give us bigger batteries, and putting as much effort into designing the phone to stay cool as they do into making them fast. Much cheaper phones have vapor chambers and solutions to staying cool, with all that testing Apple does do they not test the thermal capabilities at all? Makes you wonder, because it doesn’t take much to make my phone too hot to handle.

You would think they would test cooling, but it sure doesnt feel that way. We have to remember you are on the first 18.1 beta, so some of the heat is just purely the OS not being completely optimized. That said, thats not the whole story because Apple has been having issues with cooling since the 14 PM without any betas. Each iOS update either helps the heating some more it falls right back into being hot often when it shouldn't.

Do you notice under battery usage any AI stuff that seems high on the usage? Just curious if that running in the background all the time is gonna make heating an issue.

Which more or less proves my point: it’s not just RAM.
If it's not just RAM explain the M1 devices getting it and other more capable devices not? The M1 has 11 TOPS which is rubbish compared to newer devices. The A15 and A16 both have a more capable neural engine than the M1 and yet they don't support Apple Intelligence, but they don't have 8GB RAM.

I agree with you - but looks like RAM is the driver of this decision.

I will agree that the RAM seems to be the biggest factor for which devices got AI. The iPad with the M1 is the most interesting case here. The RAM over comes the neural engine in this case would be my guess, but for anything less than the A17 Pro for iPhones, the RAM wasn't meet so the neural engine of the A16 wasn't enough to over come the RAM. Plus the M1 chip may not have the neural engine, but the pure power of it other wise helps it with AI.

Purely just guessing based off what Apple said.

Asking for a few others with a 15PM to take a look at battery usage specifically SOT and SIT.

On mine I am getting time that makes little sense.

Here is the most glaring ”WTH?” item.
Find My, which is turned off, shows 100% usage for the 5am to 6am time slot with 21m SOT and 6m SIT. But if I switch from % to minutes, it is blank. See attached SS. Btw, the phone was sitting on my nightstand, not in use, during this hour.

Overall for yesterday it showed 9h33m SOT and 45m SIT. Realistically the phone was used less then 3h. This is not my main device or daily driver.

Battery life is down a bit but as this is a beta with new functionality and higher data usage rate (WiFI) that is not unexpected.

Either way something is wonky.

I cannot understand how they could possibly overlook it, it makes no sense.

I had been keeping tabs on what was using the most battery in settings and didn’t see anything about Apple intelligence listed. So I check again a bit ago and strangely my battery stats seem to have been wiped and reset so there’s nothing even listed now.

I guess beta being beta. That is odd though. I would have expected that at least something from AI would be near the top, but maybe it's more efficient than I think. Or it could be randomly spiking and causing your phone to get too hot.

Or Apple just doesn’t have a realistic way to measure it at this stage? Imagine when ChatGPT gets turned on.

Has anyone seen an issue where mail isn't on the iOS device? Same issue on iPad and iPhone. Mail simply not there, regardless of "show priority" setting. No focus set, no mail filter set. Just not there. Yet on Mac, all there as they should be

The overheating in the cars has been an issue for ever. Apple continues to claim they improve it but every generation the same thing happens (and this isn't with the phones in direct sunlight) it is literally sitting in a shaded part of the car with AC on.

Yeah, don’t know if it’s the charger design or what. My Ankor MagSafe charger at night is fine, but my Tesla is another matter.
