Agreed. Just tested on sub 18.1 and it does it. Expect to follow your pattern of usage.
That and things like it can be useful. But I don’t use them enough to develop the muscle memory to remember to use it.

If you look some of the writing tools are offloading to PrivateCloudCompute.

Go to Settings > Privacy > Apple Intelligence Report and export and look at the JSON. it’ll show your request and list PPC under the environment field. Seems some writing stuff requires the larger models

Have just gone into settings on my iPad air4 and there is a new update iOS 18 beta 2 but I can't see anywhere in here that it is mentioned. It is 1.1gb on my iPad.... Oops it is an ipados update sorry about that

This is probably iPadOS 18.0 public beta 2.

Absolutely. Ever type out a message and think it's a little too passive aggressive? These writing tools make excellent anger translators.
I am thinking this would be helpful for my job. I have the M3 Max MacBook Pro, and I think this would be great for writing RFPs. I am not going to download a beta on my work computer, but I excited to see how this works.

Does it make many mistakes? Funny enough I use the iPhone for spell check all the time or for looking up words, so all the help in the world would be good for me. Just curious if the early stages are already decent or need a lot of work.

Don’t get me wrong: i like the UI for the iPad Messages Smart Replies. I just don’t like them hovering at the top of my pinned convos and immovable.

I just checked and it’s active for me now. What’s the “Priority Email” In my inbox? An email from Apple telling me my Apple Card payment is due tomorrow! 😂
LOL! So I have the toggle now, only when I select it, it doesn’t change anything in my inbox.

You don't have to switch to the 18.1 betas if you're not testing or developing against AI features — and in all likelihood, other devices will get 18.1 betas at some point later in the development cycle.

Meanwhile, if this is the worst Apple-related disaster you've ever seen, you obviously haven't been using their platforms for very long. 😂

*war flashbacks to the iOS 7.0 betas* 🫣🫣🫣

What does this icon mean? I also see it appear in Mail Notifications, but not on every message, only some, and I haven’t been able to figure out the context in which it appears:

It means the line after that is a summary of the email, AI functionality

Funny thing just happened. The Mail app just summarized my email message, that was written in Slovak language. The summary was written in english, however, the sumamrization is correct. Hope that it's an indication, that the new AI models are multilingual and will support even less popular languages, such as slovak, czech etc. 👍

It's mostly about summarizing multiple messages. So for a group chat, if you have a bunch of new messages it will display and summarize the most important one so you see that up front.
Ok, that's kind of useful. Those group messages can be a pain.

That's really going to require some trust in its generic summarising abilities, and its ability to know what each individual recipient finds important in the group chat.
