Exactly this.

Both devices currently can go on either 18.0 or 18.1 beta. So, clearly intention is it’ll get both.

I’m dead certain that all devices will get 18.1 beta once 18.0 releases, and then will get 18.1 when released publicly.

I’m happy to be proven wrong, later this year, though.
All guesses. Seems to make sense, but we don't know yet what the beta of 18.1 will bring. It wouldn't be beyond possibility that 18.1 keeps being tested well beyond October, and no would be seeing 18.1 in the public form for a while. Adding AI to 18.1 beta forces Apple to have the parts of AI that are available to be very solid before full release. Rather interesting place to put themselves. May see some .01 and beyond public releases before 18.1 comes.

Have this installed on my 15PM and iPad Pro 11. So far what little released looks to be kind of working on both.

Some things so far:
Battery on the 15PM has taken a big hit. Hoping after 24 hrs it may settle down.
I am not experiencing undo heating on either device.
Apps that require internet access are operating slower and traffic on my WiFi network for those apps is higher.
Summarizing works sometimes.
Having it check and rewrite a document can be a “WTF!” moment.
Some web pages run a lot slower.

From 9-5 Mac on what is missing
“Today's beta release includes an even smaller subset of features. Here's what's missing from the first Apple Intelligence developer betas:
  • Image Playground, the Al image generation tool
  • Genmoji, which uses the Image Playground tech for creating custom emojis
  • Priority Notifications, the tool to ensure you see the alerts that matter most
  • Photos feature to remove unwanted objects from images
  • Some key Siri upgrades like on-screen awareness and in-app actions
  • ChatGPT integration
  • Inbox categories in the Apple Mail app”
This is going to be an interesting beta.
Yes, spell check still sucks.

Heavily educated guess on my part, as I work in software development. Also, you do realise that anyone commenting in here is guessing? You don’t have to go and constantly deride people for making their guesses.

You’ll see if I’m right later this year, hope to see you then for one of us to humbly admit the other was right…..

Also, we will definitely see 18.0.1, as a minimum before 18.1, guaranteed.

As I get deride for guessing as well? Yeah seems I have been hit with those as well. I am actually just clarify as many like yourself have written as facts.

I am not exactly sure what you are gonna be right about as I said I pretty much agreed with your guess. So what exactly are you gonna be right about?

Yeah as I said .01 at the very least but I am sure more. That point was to say others saying 18.1 would be a quick release, and I don't think thats the case. Who knows, but all rumors have said Oct at the earliest. Not exactly quick.

My type to Siri isn’t working. If I tap the bottom, I get the bar. I tap, double tap, hold, tapped hold, tap tap tap. Nothing.

There’s one intriguing aspect to share:

I reside in Germany and have a German Apple ID. I’ve configured my MacBook to use US English as the language and region. Despite this, I successfully enabled Apple Intelligence on my Mac without any issues. However, I haven’t discovered a way to activate it for iOS and iPadOS. Any updates on bypassing the geolock feature would be greatly appreciated.
Same for me in Italy. I don't believe there's an iOS workaround. Strange that it was so easy with Mac OS.

Given that 18.0 will likely be released somewhere between September 16th and 25th (depending on the dates of the iPhone event and release date), an October release would be somewhat quick. And there’s nothing to say they won’t release 18.1 earlier than that. Even if they released it the week after the iPhone goes on sale it still buys Apple 3 or 4 weeks of development time to get it right vs if they had left it in 18.0.

I enabled Apple Intelligence about 14 hours ago. My 15 Pro Max is still indexing my photo library.

As a point of comparison, the chipset in this phone when compared to the 14 Pro lineup has a 33% increase in RAM, a 40% reduction in process size (5nm to 3nm), and greater than 100% increase in neural engine performance (which the AI features lean extremely heavily on) among other improvements ... it's no wonder the newer chipsets are a requirement.

It's literally just the RAM which is why M1 supports Apple Intelligence.

Don’t disagree at all with you on them using 18.1 as a way to give more time. Probably best with such a big feature as AI. With the reports of it being delayed some makes me think it will be push back some after the release of the new phones. We shall see how the beta goes and if it’s as smooth as Apple wants it to be.

As a general note for folks to keep in mind before installing the 18.1 betas (or after installing them): many developers have only a limited number of test devices and will only be testing their apps against 18.0 until after that is released (because that's what users will be upgrading to on day 1); any 18.1-specific bugs affecting third-party apps that cannot be reproduced in 18.0 are unlikely to be fixed until some time after 18.0 is released.

Just out of curiosity, if you are based outside the US and successfully load the 18.1 beta by changing your device language and Siri language to US English, does the apple intelligence stop working if you change your region back to your actual country?
yeah it stops working and says not eligible

Just tried this on both of the old Siri and the new Siri, and got the exact same answer.
So I’m not sure what you mean that it couldn’t do it before

Unfortunately, if you ask how old Tom Hanks was in 1980 it still says he was 26 at the time...

iPhone 14PM - 18.0 ß4
iPad Pro Gen 4 - 18.1 ß1

Anyone else having issues with the Home app? Mine says just about all my devices are updating, force quit the app then get this screen, from memory this happened before on an older beta and I had to rest my network, just checking if there’s a quicker fix?

What version are your home hub devices? (Apple TV or HomePod hubs)

Try rebooting your home hubs.

Mine are ok homepods are on 18.0 public beta Apple TV on dev betas of 18.

Ignoring the fact that comma should be a semi-colon or a period, what would you have typed had Siri not helped you out?

(I'm just jealous as I have an iPhone 11 and need to slink back to the 18.0 threads.)
AI rewriting that post gave me this:

I’m finally typing like a pro using the writing tools!
