iOS 18.1 Beta 5 ― Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements

Already got 7 resprings: 1x in messenger, 1x ControlCenter and 5 in Safari.
Never had beta with such number even old jailbreaks were more stable… and absolutely no idea what’s the trigger. Memory is not full I guess, no extra multitasking.

11Pro OTA 18.0 RC -> 18.1 B4 and at release -> 18.1 B5

Not messages, but mail app was terrible with notifications. Finally deleted the mail app and all my mail accounts. Reinstalled and seems to have fixed my issues.

Lot more users outside of the EU than in it, so the 18.1 betas are for those who can utilize and test the features.

Once 18.1 is released to the masses, those users geo-locked in the EU can still upgrade to 18.1 but the AI stuff will be disabled.

Honestly, I think the whole reason they forked it off was so that they could test being able to properly restrict that stuff from users in the EU.

At some point soon they will fold in the items missing from 18.1, like slap apnea detection, into it but continue the AI fork so that they can not only advanced test the additional features but also make sure they can continue to restrict access from users in the EU.

It is what it is, but this is what happens when the govt gets overly heavy handed in tech.

Don't get me wrong.. I am thankful for some of the changes that the EU has forced on Apple. (Who knows how long they would’ve fought off the switch to USB-C if they weren’t forced.) But other things are just getting in the way over there I think.

Just my humble opinion.

First press wakes the phone. Second press opens the camera. But occasionally, the camera control button then will not sense a light press. Pressing harder takes a photo as expected. If you press the power button to lock the phone and then repeat the double press on the camera control button, it will sense a light press.

Definitely happens in 18.1b5, but I think I saw this on 18.0 before joining the beta. I just reported this in the feedback app. Anyone else?

I adjusted the sensitivity of that button on my 16 Pro Max and it has made a world of difference. I may actually use it now to adjust settings while composing a shot.
 
Anyone on a 16 Pro running this beta getting random WiFi drops and then being unable to join again? The only solution I've found is to reboot the phone.

Well got a 16 Pro that beta 4 bricked and I can’t get running as it’s stuck in a recovery mode loop - Genius Bar appointment booked for Saturday.

My iPhone 15 Pro has iOS 18.1 beta 5 running and yes, WiFi drops intermittently - it does recover; no reboot needed.

Check (Wi-Fi settings for your network) whether your "Wi-Fi Address" (what Apple decided to call the MAC address) is fixed or rotating or off. If rotating set it to fixed. If fixed, then you could try setting it to off but the problem probably lies elsewhere.

Interesting, I had zero issues with WiFi on my 15 Pro running B4 but on my 16 Pro running B5 it's happened at least once a day now. Pretty annoying but hey it is a beta lol
 
I have no dark icons anymore since the first 15.1 DB I received on my SE 2020. Were those maybe only supposed for OLED displays? Or is there an option to enable and disable them? In the last beta they came back when I changed the background image, but now they are gone completely it seems.

I have no problem with that because I sometimes didn't find an app that was right in front of me and I didn't recognize it for a while when the icon was dark.

Some are still dark in the App list in Settings, but not on the Home Screen.

Am I the only one?

By the way, many apps now offer changing their icon to several other ones. Was this already supported in iOS 17? On my 8 Plus with iOS 16 they don't change if I choose another one.

I had this problem at work with my MacBook. After MacBook going to sleep, I couldn’t rejoin my company WiFi, without rebooting my MacBook first. In this case I found the “Limit IP address tracking” being the culprit. But it is only the company WiFi I have issues with, other WiFi networks works just fine.
 
Does anyone else have a massive delayed keyboard? I had a 14PM with no issues. Upgraded to the 16pm and not it looks like I am learning how to type again.

I think that's the touch screen issue a lot of people have (me included).

We are eagerly waiting for a new update to have it fixed. Hopefully today.
 
Experienced my first shut down today. Phone completely turned off in the middle of using it and had to hold power to turn on again. Not just a regular 2/3 second respring.

Same with me on my 16 pro max on 18.1 B5. Resprings are so frequent. Whats the deal??
 
My Reminders app does not display badges any more, the app does not even show up in the notifications page?

I know a lot of people don't use badges but i find them very useful.
