Apple said that Apple Intelligence is launching as a beta feature and I expect it to remain in beta throughout all of iOS 18, similar to how Siri launched.
Ok, thankyou for clearing that up 🙏

How do you get the AI icon to automatically appear on the task bar in Mail and Messages.

In my instance i have to hold down on the messaging area then select writing tools from the options.

The icon automatically appears in the Notes app task bar.

Was wondering the same thing. You'd think they'd make it more prominent without having to drill down and look for it

HELP....

Normally I wait always nearly a year until switching to the "new" IOS... just to prevent being confrontated with bugs and anoying things I read about every year again.... But I always update new versions of the "old" IOS, especially for security reasons.

BUT today after waking up my iPhone 14 plus told me that there is an update from 17.7 to 17.7.1 - so I agreed.

Maybe I should have taken my coffee before doing this, because I ended up with my iPhone loading 18.1 instead... OMG... it still is loading at the moment.

Now it seems that there is no way to NOT upgrade to IOS 18.1 - so my anxious question to you is:

Will I be confrontated with lots of adapting work since this is a major upgrade?
Are there still annoying bugs for someone like me who uses mostly just basic features like phone, browsing photo-app and the deezer-app for music?

sorry for my question but I am afraid to be confrontated with problems in daily use... after I read every year a lot about long-during bugs and other annoying things with new IOS versions for many months...

Thank you in advance.

edit:

Now I am a test dummy aka early IOS-adopter by accident - for the first time in 13 years with the iPhone... but the mostly used features seem to work. Even the deezer app works. uuufff.

since I am just what my nickname tells you and not using all my iPhone´s possibilities - I hope this will stay like that...

iOS18.1 on iphone SE3 here. Testing call recording.
The sound file saves to Notes but no transcript. Is this supposed to be automatic?
Any other poor people with only an SE3 tried it?
EDIT
BTW the blurb says iphone 12 or later, but, being a pedant,
I say the SE3 is later than the 12. However that's probably the answer.

Wow, call recording is not enabled in Spain. I don't understand what the point of this is. One of the few outstanding features, and it turns out that it is not available.
That said, we do have the horrible big emojis, they could have restricted that to the US only since they were there 🤣🤣🤣

Home screen wallpapers are now over- saturated. New bug on iPhone and iPad with 18.1. The pumpkins look almost red compared to the actual photo of medium orange. IMG_9495.png IMG_9494.png

How it’s going with 18.1?

How it’s going with 18.1?
Well,

I am really just an "Averige User", so not using highly sophisticated features... but it worked since the non-volontary upgrade on IOS 18.1

Some people claim problems with the 2mail2 app.
As for me, I use since many years nothing but a well-done german app of one of the leading email-providers (gmx.de) and stopped using apple´s "mail" app.
regarding the postings about "broken mail-apps" this decision many years ago was a good one ... I just had good luck---
This third party email-app works still fine after upgrading. I appreciated this third party app because their IT-division seems to be very, very good, efficient and customer-friendly.

Did not yet test the "photo"app in IOS 18.1. but no photos disappeared and the self-created albums still exist.
Will test the new advanced features to elaborate photos in the next weeks - I use this app a lot when my beloved photo-equipment (Fujifilm X-H2 plus a lot of primes) is not with me - and in this case I prefer to use the only camera available: my simple iPhone 14 plus..... because the best camera is the ine you have with you.... 😉

The old features of the photo-app were already quite pleasant and esay to use - but the new claimed (but not yet tested by me) options might be the cream on the cake....

So - it seems I had good luck... at least *cheers*

edit:

Made after upgrading on IOS 18.1 a local backup of my iP 14 plus on my old MBP 15" (upgraded with samsung 970 pro 2TB) without any problem and after that (and my coffee) I made an update with my 2022 IPP 11" (M1) on IOS 17.7.1 without any problem. Made a local backup with my MBP 15" (2015) after that without any problem as well....

at least it was NOT a catastrophe, I just learned NOT to make IOS/MacOS upgrades before being well-waked up

And the iP14 plus works as flawlessly and fluent as before. Just to mention: I do and did always LOCAL backups, so problems with iCloud (data transfer , slowing down petrformance etc.) are not my personal problem....

😀

Definitely a new bug on iOS 18.1. In dark mode with light icons. The folders on the Home Screen when you click in and out of them they zoom back as light grey and then flick to dark grey. Can see it on both iPhone and iPad.

I noticed you need to have dark mode enabled but use light icons to have that bug show up. If you do dark mode and dark icons, the bug goes away.

I do hope it’s fixed in the next minor update though.

Apples Q&A Team is still missing in action. Updated to 18.1 and all the app previews in app switcher are overly saturated. They revert back to normal when I select a specific app…

If anyone has a higher Geekbench 6 score on their 16 pro max reply to this, I doubt there is... I don't know why YouTubers can't get close to this.
