Upstate NY . Was FL.
I have regional set to US and Siri voice set back to British (my region) once I had AI turned on.
Indeed as do I. I was referring to the default voicemail greeting. On beta 7 not sure now on RC, I had to also have my regional setting changed to UK or something otherwise my voicemail greeting would be in a USA voice. Everything else Siri would still be UK voice. Check your default voicemail accent. Cheers.

Can someone with a 16 Pro/Max please run benchmarks with 18.1? Supposedly 18.1 substantially increases single and multi core.

Here you go, I can’t remember what the previous result was tbf!

Single

Multi

Any issues updating iOS to 18.1 RC but leaving watchOS on 11.0 until next week…?

(Just got my first-ever Apple Watch, so not totally sure how crucial it is to have both iOS & watchOS in sync as far as software updates go)

No. Problems only arise if the WatchOS version is later than the iOS version.

That’s a bummer, out of curiosity what’s you build month?
July. I don't think it's a hardware issue tho, but it's a very nasty problem if Apple still didn't figure it out in the RC, I mean this is supposed to be the same build as the official release.

still nothing here. Region set to US to allow AI, airpods same firmware as you, tried both health app hearing section and airpods settings when connected - nothing. Restarted phone - nothing.

wonder what else might be needed?

Unlike Apple Intelligence, where you can “spoof” the phone into allowing it by changing the region and language settings, the Hearing Test/Hearing Aid functionality almost certainly will not let you do that. The reason is that the hearing stuff is subject to approval of each nation’s medical device regulatory authority, just like the EKG and blood oxygen sensors on the Apple Watch.

The Apple Intelligence region spoofing was probably allowed so that EU based developers could still access Apple Intelligence for development purposes. It’s not inconceivable that it could still be disabled for the general public when 18.1 is released next week.

Same here. I am also hoping it’s not a hardware issue as I can’t even return it now. So hoping they are able to sort it with and update. The keyboard is a mess right now.

Wow plugged in overnight to charge and still says update finishing in the background this morning. Surprised at how long it’s taking to finish. Wonder if it’s Apple Intelligence scanning and indexing etc different than past updates without it.

I have a feeling this IPSW is bricking devices and we just aren’t hearing about it. I’m very hesitant to perform this update and use my primary device as the sacrificial guinea pig

Your “feeling” is based on what evidence?
The evidence is that up to this point, all iOS 18.X IPSWs have been bricking devices if updating with Apple Devices. I posted yesterday asking if this has been fixed for or if it’s still the current behavior for the iOS 18.1 RC, I am keeping up with the thread and so far nobody has commented saying they’ve tried it and had a result one way or the other. So why would I not assume that it’s still failing the update and bricking iPhones if nobody has shown evidence to the contrary? I definitely don’t want to take the risk to find out for myself; yet again, after trying it on 3 devices the last time around.
If it bricks someone’s iPhone, that could be the device someone uses to post here. They wouldn’t even be able to tell us.
Did you update with Apple Devices? What was the result?

Apple Devices is a Windows app?
I personally have been updating my iPhone with IPSW for years now and it never bricked my phone but I'm updating on my Mac.

Yes, that is their current Windows program for managing iOS updates/restores, and backups. Unfortunately it seems to be riddled with issues to the point of being nonfunctional and actually damaging to the connected iPhone (or iPad)

So that seems to be an issue with "Apple Devices" on Windows and nothing to do with IPSWs bricking devices. I've been downloading every update from the developer site and installing them on my 15 Pro Max and 16 Pro Max with ZERO issues.
