Running it since it came out and it’s great! Mail notifications works like they are supposed to with sound and the pop-up is clickable without the freezing problem. Finally!
Also battery lasts materially longer.
Haven’t seen seen such big changes before, but that’s just because 18.3.2 was so bad. Now everything just works as expected again, still really happy with it!

Can’t believe the bug causing poor audio quality with voice recordings made/sent via the Messages app STILL hasn’t been fixed. It’s been around since iOS 17.5!

There’s a pretty simple workaround for it, but it’s still annoying to have to do the workaround every time you want to send an audio recording. To their credit, Apple has been making all kinds of great little improvements when it comes to the audio recordings in the Messages app, but apparently the actual sound quality of the recordings isn’t a priority.

For those who aren’t familiar:

• In the Messages app, start recording a voice message as normal and speak for 10 seconds or so.

• Then temporarily stop the recording by tapping the red “stop” button.

• Then tap the little timestamp to the left of the blue “send” button to restart the recording and speak for another 10 seconds or so.

• Stop the recording again by tapping the red “stop” button.

You don’t need to actually send what you’ve recorded… there’s a “play” button on the far left that’ll allow you to preview what you’ve recorded before sending it. You should find that the first 10 seconds of your audio message sounds ok, but that the second 10 seconds of the message sounds noticeably better with much improved quality.

(To be clear: this bug only pertains to audio recordings that were made and sent via the Messages app. The iOS Voice Memos app is perfectly fine.)

The bug is related to the fact that they use a different microphone in the first recording compared to the subsequent ones. If you know which is which, you can make sure you speak into the right one and it works well.

I have also reported it but got no feedback yet.

Not seen this for a while! Update still indexing etc in the background. 16e.

After about 24 hours, my phone has settled down to normal now. The update seems to have to do a lot of post-install background tasks that kept my battery use less than perfect but it's back to normal now.

I hadn't realised during the betas, but the sleeper feature of 18.4 for me seems to be those little control centre music buttons - they are absolutely fantastic for background music whilst I work. I can see myself using them daily A LOT. I'd almost pay for them.

This is what I like to see, Apple leveraging their massive skills in music to make great new iOS features. This has actually almost redeemed them in my eyes after the whole Apple Intelligence debacle. Apple sticking to what they are good at makes me a very happy user indeed.

So the mail notifications weren’t working. I’ve reset my 14 pro max and restored backup. Still mail notifications not working. Come on Apple this is ridiculous this close to a final release!

Have not had any issues on my 16PM after installing the RC. Granted, I haven't had any of the previous 18.4 betas so this may be why. Smooth animation, solid battery and priority notifications working great. Happy camper!

I’d like to report this also. Can you reference the report number?

RCS seems way more stable on connection stack changes. Previously I always saw conversation text boxes switch to SMS whenever my connection changed (e.g. going from wifi to cellular). With 18.4 it stays at RCS.

It‘s also not instantly switching over to SMS when I disconnect mobile data / wifi, only after a few seconds does it revert to SMS. That‘s iOS 18.0 B3 behavior, that‘s how long it took Apple to fix this SMS/RCS jittering it seems.

I wonder if it also fixes the bug that has certain conversations stuck with SMS, even though RCS should be available?
Or hiding alerts in a group of RCS and ignoring the switch setting. Haven't tried it yet as it was alway stuck in whatever state it was in until fooling with it for a day or two.

Overall the RC feels very fluid. Satisfied so far.
Same. Seems the fastness/fluidity of the iP16 when I first got it went away a bit after updates thru 18.3.2. Now with 18.4 its back fast and fluid as day one. Battery is great as well! No complaints from me.

Since the iOS 18.2 update, I no longer have a car icon in the Now Playing platter when my phone connects to my car stereo. It used to show a car 🚘 but now it just shows a generic Bluetooth speaker icon.

I’ve confirmed that my device is set to “Car Stereo” and have tried forgetting the car stereo and reconnecting, as well as restarting the phone, but no dice.

Still happening in 18.4
