Question for those who have testing “lock apps behind Face ID” feature. What happens if you attempt to use it on apps that are already locked with a password/Face ID, such as our banking apps?

Do you not get the option on the list?
Do you get the option, but if you select it it does nothing different than before?
Or possibly does it require two Face ID validations?
The last one, I would expect.

Compared to the last version of IOS 17: Battery impact?, speed?.
What features did apple remove this year?.

Place app icons anywhere we want, how long we have waited 🙏
This and RCS are the changes that are making me update on day one. Usually I wait until x.2 or x.3 before updating. This is one of the few things that I miss about Android, which has had this since day one. Apple’s current positioning is a mess. I guess all of those apps that allow positioning by adding clear images will be closing their doors pretty soon.

I don’t understand the reason behind Photos app update. It doesn’t bring any noticeable improvements to warrant the update. AI stuff could have been integrated with the previous UX with no issues.

For me personally it’s worse in terms of user experience with the tabs gone and now having to scroll like crazy between sections what used to be just a single tap away! Why?

I used to be able to search photos by camera name (eg Sony a7m3 etc) now this simple thing no longer works. Why?

It’s still not possible to separate raw images from jpegs when importing from an SD card. To sidestep this issue I still have to use Files app, which is somehow perfectly capable of handling this simple function and more (full screen preview!) and then save the jpegs to Photos app. Why?

Tbh I’m afraid we might see scroll view on Home Screen in iOS 19

Been in the beta since day 1. I was excited at first but it has been a disappointment. Still waiting on Apple Intelligence lol.

Looking forward to testing the password app. If I can easily migrate my passwords from 1Password to Apple’s app I’ll save a few dollars a year.
I’m a 1P user hoping for the same, but sadly, Apple passwords app isn’t enough to replace it yet. I’ve not used the Mac beta yet so maybe that will be better, but the iPhone one isn’t quite there.

You get multiple Face ID authentications, with the first one to authenticate launching the app in the first place per the new setting and then the in app Face ID check runs as usual as it knows nothing about the launch check having happened.

iOS 18 seems to be a worthwhile update, even though its headline AI features won't launch until later this year. It's not the biggest update ever, but given the maturity of iOS, I don't think we can expect anything more major barring a total redesign of iOS. I only wish they had put more effort into iPad-specific features for iPadOS, which keeps hampering the amazing hardware it runs on.

I would be interested in reading how that goes if MacRumours were to mic you up for the process.

Looking forward to the update. Would have been nice if the new phones came with iOS 18.
I'm sure they will. On a related note, I had read somewhere that Apple was at least testing a system to wirelessly update iPhones while they are in sealed boxes. It would somehow wirelessly trigger them to power up, update then power down. No idea if that ever became real.

Delighted for Password app, as will save money on (now) bloated 1Password. Delighted for RCS! Delighted for dropdown titles in Notes. Curious to see what Game Mode and Distraction Reduction brings.

Been using 18.1 for about a week only because I wanted Apple Intelligence and for a beta it's been running flawlessly so far overall. The same colour tinted icons looks terrible but I love the dark mode icons, very simple tweak but it makes such a big change to the look it makes it feel like iOS has had a big UI update because the UI has felt stale for many years now.
So you are saying that 18.0 should be solid enough to put on my 15Pro daily driver on day one? Or maybe I wait for an 18.01 update after the launch into the wild.

I believe the updating machine you mentioned is still in testing. Unless the new phones can be updated in transit, they will come with iOS 17.

I am a Strongbox app user but, looking forward to checking out the new Password app as well. I also didn’t know about the drop down option in Notes.
