do I need to update my Mac OS to the latest to enjoy Passwords app on the phone? or it will work with Monterey keychain?

Lots to like in iOS 18, but going to wait at least a few days to see that no unpleasant surprises didn't slip into 18.0 before upgrading

Doubt it matters, as the new Passwords app will pull the data from your iCloud Keychain, not the local one on your Mac (which are of course linked).

Well, I decided on Saturday that I'd try it before it goes public. Made a backup to Mac and got Dev Beta.

And I have to say I really like it!

I thought - after seeing videos and reading reviews - that I would hate Photos app. Turns out that after I tweaked it a bit, I got already used to it. And it's OK.

I love the ability to search within Safari page - to be honest I am not sure if it was there before... ;)
As for the iCloud Tabs - I don't understand why there are only 3 at the time. My iPhone 15's screen would fit 5 of them easily. But it would be much better if I could just vertically scroll through all of them. Or better off - I would rather see all iCloud windows in groups with horizontal scroll and then vertically scrolled tabs for those windows.

I don't use Messages much so here nothing special for me, everybody here is on WhatsApp.

Apple Maps - still useless, at least to me. Just tell me how do I find a walking or a car route from one manually chosen point to another chosen point. The app only lets me search for it but does not let me choose manually on a map? I mean it doesn't let me change the Start point. It is either my location or a search result.
Here in Czech the app Mapy.cz is still the best in any way.

Home Screen modification. Well - I will never have an empty space on my Home Screen because why would I. I need to have all the icons that fit there because I don't want to scroll to another page only because I want to see more of my wallpaper... But hey - that's me. ;)
Icons tinting - interesting feature, but again not for me. While it might look cool, the icons loose their distinctive look which I prefer. The same tinting just makes it harder to find and see the app I want to open.

I really love Control Centre!

So far I haven't experienced any bugs whatsoever. And my phone is much cooler now! I don't mean 'cool' like 'cool' but 'cool' like 'not hot'. :) The phone used to get quite hot a few times a day. So far nothing. I don't remember exactly during which tasks but since I do the same stuff everyday I can safely say - it is cooler now!

So yeah! I like iOS 18!

As others say I don't think so however you might want it for iPhone Mirroring. It's been a game changer for me being able to grab 2FA codes from the phone for logins on my Mac without opening the phone.

Not looking forward to the Photos app. Will probably hold off for a few months, if not indefinitely, as everything I’ve seen and read makes me feel like it’ll be a huge regression. I’m so sick of change for change’s sake.
Well, this was actually the only reason why I went through all the archive Mac backup thing and installed Beta, for the last moment.

I just needed to see and try for myself. And honestly - I thought it'd be much worse. I also hate change for the change's sake. And I still think there was no need to revamp the Photos app so drastically. And yes, I'd still prefer having the bottom tab bar for navigation.
But turns out that I got used to it pretty quickly. And I let the other iPhone household users test it and they're all OK with it.

I just had to tweak it a bit - now I've got Recent Days, then Pinned Collections, People, Memories, Utilities, Media Types and Albums. Happy with this layout now.

Distraction Mode is AWESOME!

Instead of reporting content other people have made, just go into Distraction Mode, and Thanos Click their posts away.

It works on this, and many other forums. Try it, it's the best.

In a world of instant gratification, the ability to turn peoples posts you dislike/disagree with/or have proven you wrong, into pixel dust to be swept away into the winds of oblivion, you simply cannot beat it.

If this post annoys you. Give it a go. You'll get what I mean.

In the early betas with the carousels below the main photo gallery it WAS much worse and I think that is where a lot of the hate comes from, but the change to ditch the carousels for more vertical sections made the whole thing so much more usable and I now really like the customizable sections at the bottom and that I can get to everything just by scrolling rather than having to dig through multiple tabs and menus.

2FA comes through on messages on Mac too.

I really want to install it on my 14 pro max, but I'm hesitant! 😄 I guess I will wait for a while to see how others with similar phones do.

Most things are not "one tap away" at all - they require to move to a different section and scroll to find the folders you're looking for, which I find to be a painful experience (for example the Utilities section). With the new Photos app I can have the Utilities section accessible right below my photos library, saving multiple taps and scrolls to get to it.

Also, the "For You" tab is mostly a waste of space for me - I'm glad I can choose the one section I do find useful and put it in the main feed. Same with Search - it doesn't need its own tab, and now I can get everything I would use within it in the same section of the app.

The new app is an overall better experience, allowing people to just have what they want, rather than all these sections and tabs they barely use.
With tabs I was able to maintain the context by switching between tabs. No longer. This was replaced by crazy scrolling decision

I’m looking forward to almost everything. Except I’m really, really not looking forward to the new Photos UI

I’ve heard reviews that it’s really bad and Apple’s current UI team seems to be made up of people who were too incompetent to work at Microsoft so I have no faith they’ll do a good job
Same here. Photos app is a complete disappointment, looks like a one week intern task in SwiftUI. Maybe it is, who knows

Oh, never thought about it that way! This is very good point. Had those moments too, when I need to grab my phone just for 2FA.

really, is it that bad? :( I was looking forward to it...

Not surprised there are already articles talking about how the latest update is draining people’s battery life. It’s the same every year.

No mention of Apple addressing the iPhone's most absurd and pathetic omission: audible notifications of missed calls.

For me that would just be one more thing to turn off in Settings. I don't want my phone audibly nagging at me and irritating everyone around me because I missed a call (and I would have seen it on my watch in the first place).

So? Apple pettily added this exact feature for texts, but neglected to do so for calls. Is that bothering you and everyone around you?

It's doubly absurd since the settings page for text options and call options are nearly identical and thus would involve minimal work. But really, the iPhone shouldn't have gone out the door without this feature, which was standard on phones and related devices for decades.
