Yep I did charged it to 95% took it of the charger before I went to bed
Battery level usually stays at what you charged to a lot longer than once it starts draining. I don’t have an explanation for why it is but an accurate way to gauge idle drain is to observe after using it a bit and drained from that level.

Battery life on my 15 Pro is not as good as 17.6.1. I am seeing an Ongoing Device Setup notification in settings/battery that says "Your iPhone is completing setup steps in the background. Battery life and thermal performance may improve once finished"

This has been going on since Monday when I did the iOS 18 update, so not sure if it should be done by now or not.

Anyone else see this message?

Ok, will try to load it and use it for about 5% and then take a closer look at drainage

Overall battery life on iOS 18 is slightly worse than what it was on the latest version of iOS 17 on my iPhone 15 Pro. Any specific suggestions on something to disable on iOS 18 to improve battery life? In other words, was some new setting toggle introduced in iOS 18 that may be contributing overall battery drain on this new OS?

I gotta say, iOS 18 has been quite fantastic. This is not the norm at ALL either for a major update.

Although to be fair, I did a restore-style install via iTunes and set it up as a new phone. I just synced my important iCloud stuff and synced photos from my Macbook that I wanted.

Battery has been comparable to the last iOS 17 update and the smoothness has been better, surprisingly.

Battery life on my 15 Pro Max is horrendous. I went from having 60% battery at the end of the day to having 35%. Home and Lock Screen has a lot of usage, but I have no idea what it’s doing. Especially with all the background stuff.

I compared a recent day with similar usage values and the phone is using about 33 to 50% more battery for the same on screen usage.

My phone had the nerve this morning to recommend I switch to 80% charging based on my usage. I have it at 100%. If I switched to 80%, it might not last the day.

Going to bed with 100% and waking up with 100%. Idle battery drain is none existent on my 15 Pro Max.

I took 100’s of photos yesterday hence the big drop though the afternoon.

You have set it to Low power mode? Can that influence the shown battery level? What happens when you switch back to normal battery mode, does it show a quicker decline of battery then normal just after?

I'm experiencing the same on my 15 Pro , I went from 17.6 to 18 official release and my battery is performing 15-20% lower compared to 17. I don't see any messages of indexing in Background not sure if its enabled only on 18.1 betas but currently its quite hard to get through the day without having to top of the charge. Hope they fix it in the next update

Yes, I always set low power mode while I sleep. When I wake and turn off low power mode the fall is just normal from 100%, there’s no quick decline.

Yeah... but for as long as the iPhone has been around, the battery % has been skewed at 100%. Have you noticed that 100% lasts for a while before it drops to 99%? That's because 100% actually counts as 100% - 95%. Only when you hit 94% of the actual battery charge capacity does the % in iOS drop to 99%. It's been like this for so long now and it's crazy that people still don't know this.

Actual vs. Reporting
95-100% = 100%
47.5% = 50%
24.25% = 25%

Leaving the device for such a long time at full charge is bad for the battery.
Of course this doesn’t matter if you upgrade every year.

Sorry, but I don't get that, mind explaining it a little bit more? (yeah, it seems I'm one of those who don't know this)
I always see 99%, 98%, 97% and so on displayed.
Does it mean that when it drops do 94 it actually shows 99 %?
But then, when does it show 98, 97, ...?
That's where I don't get my head around.

I do know this, iPhone’s stay at 100% for longer than they really should then fall faster thereafter.

The question was about the battery drain or lack of it overnight in low power mode on iOS 18, and if it suddenly dropped once I disabled low power mode and started using it.

It just dropped as normal as it would from 100% charge (stayed at 100% as iPhones do for a long time)

I don’t leave it plugged in for a long time fully charged. Took off charge at 100% last night then I went to bed

I keep Low Power Mode on all the time, and haven't noticed that I miss any features because of it - I willingly disable Background App Refresh and Automatic Downloads, as they are unnecessary to me.

I set Charge Limit to 80%, don't let it drain below 40% - and I have 100% battery life after a full year of use, on my 15 Pro Max.

I decided to change my 15 PM to 80% since the phone recommended it. I assumed that it would charge the phone to 80% and hold it so I was surprised when I woke up and took my phone off the charger and it was 76%.

It looks like it charges to 80% and then stops and lets it drop until I hits about 70 to 75% and then charges again. As such 80% isn’t really 80% it could be anywhere from 70 to 80%. With battery life worse in iOS 18 that’s not really acceptable.

I’m already at 70% less than 90 minutes after removing from the charger.

I also saw a phone is using more battery because it’s “setting up” in the battery screen this morning. It went away about 30 minutes later, but what could it possibly be setting up 3 days after I installed iOS 18?

There's an option to set the charge to any point....90% might be the sweet spot. However, I didn't know it stops charging, I thought it would trickle charge at that point....

Leaving it plugged in or idle at 100% overnight both have the exact same effect, keeping the battery at high SoC for hours. This has an impact on battery degradation over time.

Actually using a fully charged device otoh is not much of a concern.

10 days with iOS 18, definitely noticing better battery life so far. Not by much, ca 5-10% difference in the end of the day. Higher usage even due to new OS to play with. 14 PM.

This keeps intermittently showing up on the battery screen. Seems like whatever setup is being done should be finished and shouldn’t keep coming back.
