Hi everyone. Any ideas or remedies as to why my photos app is running in the background for nearly 5 hours when I haven’t even used it today? PB. Thanks.

Edit: downloaded beta at noon yesterday so 30+ hours since finished. Still indexing?!
I had this issue when I turned on standby. Disabling it fixed it for me

My battery life on iOS 18.1 beta 4 for my iPhone 15 Pro is actually quite disappointing 🫤 . I love the Apple intelligence, but battery life is crucial for me. I try to charge it to 85% and then back down to 15% when it goes below that. However, in just two months, the number of battery cycles is already higher than anyone else’s here, which is quite concerning.

Does anyone else with an iPhone 15 Pro have similar issues? Can someone please explain the best way to save battery health? I’m torn between charging it overnight and not. Additionally, I’m experiencing a bug where my iPhone shows it’s charging even when it’s not.

This could very well be influencing your cycle count I’m thinking, makes one wonder!? Does it appear often? This is first time I hear about this kind of issue (big chance I’ve missed a lot here on the forum), has this been known to be happening before for others?

Thank you for your response. This is the first time I’ve noticed the bug. As for the battery health, I’m concerned because I only got this phone two months ago. I thought the average number of cycles per year would be around 300~400. However, at my current usage rate, it would exceed 700 cycles in a year. Is that even possible?

I set my phone to charge to 100% which unlike charge to 80%, does a charge and hold. I then left the phone charge overnight. This appears to have allowed the background tasks to complete as the setup message in the battery screen went away.

Setting to 80% apparently doesn’t allow enough actually charging time to complete the background tasks, so if the setup message won’t go away try changing to 100% overnight.

Battery drainage comparison with 15 Pro Max and 16 Pro Max in it from Mrwhosetheboss:

Wish I could get that long battery life on my 15 PM - over 9hrs this is crazy good!

Sorry I can’t help more, but to me it sounds like enough reason to turn to apple and run some diagnostics on it, if you have possibility to do so.
Edit: Maybe go back to official iOS 18 and see how it behaves?

Same for me too, battery is draining like hell
Do you notice what app is draining it?! Photos app is staying in background for hours and hours and it’s killing my battery on PB 1. Curious if you see it too.

Did reset and clean install my iPhone 15 Pro Max (92% battery with 254 cycles) with ios 18 and so far after 2 days battery life is still bad…
Safari sometimes heating up the phone and phone calls more heat
Just using it for YouTube, music and browsing that’s all.

Should I try 18.1 beta 4? I’m not that impressed with iOS 18 so far (battery wise)

Yeah, I should, but the issue is that since I’m in the 18.1 beta version, they won’t accept it. Moreover, I can’t revert back to iOS 18. That process is quite hectic. I didn’t expect iOS 18 or 18.1 betas to offer better battery life, especially since the 15 Pro is expected to consume a significant amount of processing power in the background. However, I’m still concerned about the possibility of needing to charge my device twice a day.

You should try the 18.1 beta 4 version, but it won’t significantly improve your battery life since it’s still in beta. You should expect that.

iOS 18.1 has been solid on my 15PM, I was surprised at the performance boost & smoothness over iOS 18.

Battery life has also been good, definitely no worst vs iOS 18. Possibly slightly better!

13 PM with 89% BH. Installed iOS 18 on Wednesday and looks like it’s done indexing? At least I no longer see the messsge in the battery settings. However, my battery drops like a rock.

Do I give it some more time or just go back to iOS 17?

Anyone else with a similar experience?

13PM 100% BH I’m getting great battery life on iOS 18! Right now my 10 day average is 13h 1m.

THIS is what this iPhone 15 Pro is supposed to last. iOS 17.7, no battery drain, no random heat whatsoever, buttery smooth. iOS 18 clearly has something wrong, and I’m happy to know it was not my phone's fault. IMG_0640.png

Battery life on 15PM running 18.1 public beta 1 is amazing as long as I’m not taking a tonne of photos lol which I haven’t today.

I’m having less heat on 18.1 public beta 1. Battery life is good & performance way better!
Good to know, so a few weeks wait for 18.1, no need for iOS 18.1 because I can’t use Apple Intelligence here in Germany

You charge only to 100% from now on seems like, am I right ?

I have no idea what changed today, but the battery life on my 15 PM went from horrible to great. The “Home & Lockscreen” percentage dropped from 25% to 6%.
