I thought maybe battery life would get better when upgraded form the 14PM to the 16pro, but still the same issues on iOS 18. I have this sneaking suspicion that Apple has focused all their attention on 18.1 and higher now because of the promised AI for the 16 phones. Hopefully it’s more solid when they fully release it. This is the worst battery life I have seen on a brand new iPhone in a long time.

Good to know, so a few weeks wait for 18.1, no need for iOS 18.1 because I can’t use Apple Intelligence here in Germany

You charge only to 100% from now on seems like, am I right ?

I think 18.1 will be the best version of iOS 18 if the beta is anything to go by.

I used to use the 80% limit when I got my 15PM but the battery health started to fall anyway, so now I don’t see the point and just charge to 95-100%.

With 80% limit set it means I was charging my phone more through the day. I think that was why my battery health started to drop.

A couple days of 18.1b4 on a 16 Pro Max. Hard to judge for sure yet since I go hard on day one. But so far battery life is not exceptional. About on par with the base 15 I traded in for it. No heat issues though. Safari seems to be draining more than usual, so hope it’s just a leak that will get patched. Streaming video or audio hits the battery pretty extreme.

15 PM---18.1 B3 vs B4 battery life described:

B3 = horrible battery life
B4 = slightly less horrible battery life.

Standby battery loss was better until a few days ago and it's been draining again. Hopefully this will get fixed. In this day and age, larger battery capacity has not led to a dramatic increase in battery life.

My 15 PM is showing “Ongoing Device Setup” again. That had went away several days ago.

So have we figured out why Home & Lock Screen are taking up so much battery? Also why photos are using so much in the background? It’s insane! Is there anyway to stop the photos from working in the background so much?

Same issue on my 16PM. Burning through battery and already at 5 cycles since launch running 18.1 betas

My background photos is insane. To be fair, my sister on 18.0 has same issue and she started her set up Friday.

Are others seeing the crazy background on photos on normal 18? I‘m on PB of 18.1.

Someone said here after charging overnight that went away. I don’t charge overnight normally, but I will set the charge limit to 80% and try it.

Not only photos in the background, but the home and lockscreen is even more of an issue. I don’t understand this.

I think I have the same problem, 10% on my phone.

Me too got 42% - charged to 95% looked at my phone after I woke up and it was at 83%!!! I am using iOS 18.0 and don’t have the message showing that it’s processing the update in background … really strange

We need a 18.0.1 ASAP! This is the worst launch iPhone battery life I have ever gotten. Getting a new phone you should feel like you are killing it with battery life. This is just as terrible as my 14pm on iOS 18. Thats a 2 year old phone.

Same, and you're on the PM. You shouldn't have any issues at all getting over a days worth of battery life. I knew the 16pro would be less than a Pro Max, but I shouldn't be coming home from work worry about my battery life. And to just see drain on the battery while the phone is just sitting around. Plus Apple said the battery life had been increased for the pros.

The wild thing is out of the box my 16 Pro with the version of iOS 18 that was not the same build as the RC was way better on battery life. As soon as I downloaded the RC build number it was down hill from there. I have a feeling that was the build close to what beta 8 of iOS 18 was. I had some of the best battery life on my 14pm on that beta and I think 4 and 5. What the heck did Apple do?

Edit: And may I add, the keyboard lag was non existent in the loaded iOS 18.

13 Pro Max, 18.1 beta 4, 100% wifi:

40% wifi, 60% LTE but that was also mostly on beta 4 and few hours on beta 5:

today, 100% LTE (before I came back home and connected to wifi), 18.1 beta 5:

Could have been better on LTE and my phone is constantly warm while using mobile data but on wifi? I haven't seen that type of SOT on my 13 Pro Max since literally iOS 16. That was unattainable on EVERY iOS 17. No matter if I was on wifi or LTE, I was barely able to hit 7h SOT from a full charge.

I hope it stays that way and would be improved even more while on LTE.

*sorry for such a long post

Maybe on my end it has something to do with constantly using 4G/LTE, because I don’t have WiFi at home or on the go

So is 18.1 beta no better on battery life?! I was hoping there might be some hope for better battery life, but if 18.1 isn’t seeing, I don’t have any at all. I am actually shocked by the battery life of iOS 18. Worst I have seen in iOS in as long as I can remember. My 16 pro drops 2% on a 15 minute drive home from work. That is insane.

I picked up my iPhone 16 Pro last Saturday and transferred my data that night, so it’s been a few days already.

Here’s how I would describe the battery drain:

The phone is a CN variant with two physical SIM slots, so I have two SIM cards on standby with Auto 5G and standard data usage. After just a 5-minute walk, which included some music listening and using a QR code to pay for a cola, the battery dropped from 85% to 82%. That’s a 3% drop in less than 10 minutes.

I understand that the non-Max/Plus models tend to have shorter battery life, but I didn’t expect it to be this significant.😟

The software is the latest iOS 18.1 beta 5 (dev), also known as public beta 2, and it ran well on my (now sold) 15 Pro Max.😓

Is anyone else using the beta on an iPhone 16 Pro willing to share their experience? Much appreciated! 🧐
