Hi, after the horrible experience with iOS 18 I decided to do a clean installation of my 14 PM configuring it as a new phone from my Mac, then I activated my iCloud account (without backup). He's behaving like never before. He is doing 4-5 hours of SOT using only 50-60% of the battery (I charge it exclusively from 20 to 80%). I'm happy with my phone again. I don't think it will update by OTA in a long time except security update. In case anyone is interested, I follow step by step the settings recommended by the youtuber Payette Forward (In this screenshot it appears that it was loaded up to 85%, my Watch did not notify me and went up 5% more than I like). Excuse my translated English. Greetings to all.
I have always updated by downloading the IPSW file and updating via a PC. Never had any issues. Maybe try that going forward too

Good to know I'm not the only one with HORRIBLE battery life after installing 18.2.

I've turned off Apple AI because I noticed the battery drain with that enabled but it's still not getting any better. My iPhone stops charging at 85% (intentionally to save the battery life) but after 4 hours of MINIMAL use, it's down to 45%.

By this, do you mean 4 hours of screen time? Because that's pretty normal if so.

No. I took my iPhone off of the charger at 4am. By 8am, the battery was down to 45%. I didn't check any social media. Didn't watch any videos. Didn't check email or messages. Didn't navigate anywhere.

Like I said, very MINIMAL use and it's down 40%??

Damn, yeah that's bad. If minimally used my phone in the way you described I'd probably have above 80% left easily.

Here's my usage today

Just a thought ... as I'm following this thread since day/page 1.

Could it be that it's not iOS but the cellular and/or WiFi module or its firmware?

I mean, we all here have already tested a lot, in different condition, with different settings enabled/disabled.
But the outcome is basically the same => battery life s*cks
Also, pls correct me if I'm wrong, 99 % of the people here are having this problem on an iPhone 15/16 Pro/Max.

I'm having a 12Pro lying next to my 15Pro, same iOS, same settings, same iCloud account and so on.
The 15 Pro drains about 30 % faster, so during the same timeframe, the 12p loses 10 % while the 15p loses 13 % (most of the time).

I'm hardly getting through the day (my day has around 18h) with my 15p, with only 1.5h SOT ...
It feels like a bad relationship: it gets worse every day ...

The way Apple list the playback hours is so misleading. It is a cell phone, I need them to test a few times with WiFi and cellular and show me realistic numbers.

How should I expect and accept my 16 pro gets 6-7 hours of SOT from here? And my 4 year old 12 pro max that I traded in had last a few more hours at the end of the day? So upsetting to me.

With these iPhones you tested, was the battery life running on peak performance or normal performance? An ideal battery health for an iPhone 12 Pro Max would have around the 85-90% range. Also consider that the charging habits with using third party vs genuine MagSafe accessories and adapters will vary.

My 12p is at 85 % battery health, my 15p at 92 %. Which is why it’s even more annoying to me.
Both charged on the same (old) Apple MagSafe charger.

I compared both at home, lying next to each other, on the same cellular network and WiFi. I tried to have the least differences possible between the two, but of course I‘m unable to do scientific tests and have to rely on what the iPhones show me.

Have you tried restoring fresh with an 18.2 IPSW file, and not restoring from a backup? Try that for a few days. Put everything on your phone manually, don't enable Apple Intelligence, turn off all the unnecessary things in settings (e.g significant locations), and I'm sure it will be fine

That’s not an option.
It has to be fine with default settings.
Also it takes days (no joke) for me to have everything setup and working again.

What isn't an option? Restoring from an IPSW? That's the only logical next step tbh.

At the very least you can make an iCloud backup now (not iTunes backup), restore from an IPSW, see how it goes on a completely fresh install for a few days, then restore from an iCloud backup after and see if that brings the issue back. If not, great. If it does, then you know there's some config issue/weird bug which is getting backed up is causing it.

There are many settings within location > system services which do not need to be on and cause battery drain. You should turn them off. Multiple resources on this online about which ones are the best to keep on/turn off.

I want to share my 16 Pro Max.... so bad battery, idk what should I do to increase battery life. iOS 18.2. bought 1.5 months ago

How are you updating using your PC? Ever since iOS 18, Apple Devices on my PC bricks my phone. It works on my iPad which is still on iPadOS 17, so it's is an 18 issue. My PC is Windows 11 24H2.

what do you mean “brick”?

Works fine from me using iTunes from the Windows store

You can also update using iMazing

It flashes until the middle bar and the app gives you an error and the iPhone becomes bricked
That is exactly what happens to me. It gets half way through and then I get an error and the phone goes into DFU mode.
It happened when I went from iOS 18 to 18.01 and then again when I went from 18.1 to 18.11. I tried iTunes from the Windows store in addition to Apple Devices. Someone in another thread said it might be a Windows 24H2 thing.
I know that I don't have an issue updating my iPad this way on iPadOS 17.

I would love to update with the ipsw on a PC without paying for iMazing.

I have to call a friend that has a Mac to flash the iPhone again, and the iPhone revived!

I've tried also 3utools and it fails too
