I went to a roadtrip today with my electrical scooter and shot a bunch of 48mp proraw photos, and most of them looked like washed out and lacking a punch. Usually over exposured and very under saturated. But luckily proraw saves all the data that photo has so its easy to edit afterwards.

I like to have my photos to give a very vibrant punch, someone might call them artificial looking but thats my jam.
Were these taken in good light? Just curious. Also, what model do you use?

The sky was clear with nice sunshine, and it was 2pm so the sun wasnt going down. I dont know why but all the photos I take need editing. Especially with saturation, vividness and warmth.

Im using 15 pro max.

Actually, now that I think of photo editing. Would it be nice if apple would add a edited badge on top of the photos that are edited in the gallery. Of course it would not add that badge on the photo itself, but as a badge in the gallery.

Still baffled by this wasted space on the bottom. Using the large icons makes it even worse. Wish Apple would just add an extra row of icons or at least give us the option.
One of my most loved jailbreak apps back in the day. You could add 6, 7, or 8 apps in the bar. Then another allowed you to add a bunch and you could scroll over. Great concepts.

Using the Action Button (default) to set my 15PM to Silent.
Seems with this beta a number of items in apps are not “silent” in this setting.
X, Reddit, Telegram - all played sound where under b2 they were quiet.

Next was Notification - Banners. All behaved as usual yesterday except for Podcasts. The Banner appeared and stayed there. I had to manually swipe it away. Same this morning. (15PM)

I agree with an easier way to determine which photos were edited and which were not... In versions before iOS 18 beta, I had to go and view each picture and look for the Revert text in red in the corner to know which one got edited and which one is not...

Also, I wish Apple would add a mass undo of edit or Revert All... It's not for everybody but I like to have the photos in their original version that I can backup to a storage locally before they get edited...

Photos in the iPad I am trying to backup are in thousands and I only realized it late that some are no longer in full resolution [12MP, 8MP, depending on the device used] and that they are cropped versions and colors got boosted to almost looking unnatural...

As of right now, I have not completed checking each photo since the display glass got broken and the touch functionality was affected... I don't have the money to have it repaired yet so I only try to undo the edits for a limited time...

Instead of paying for iCloud storage, I chose to store Live Photos in OneDrive and downloading the photos back from OneDrive to the iPhone or iPad, the movement/video component is retained unlike in Google Photos [they are just static/no movement] and for that reason [and OneDrive's ability to keep the original timestamp when downloading] is why I upload to OneDrive... I am currently subscribed to both Google One [extra cloud storage] and OneDrive... Once I have everything sorted, only Live Photos will be in OneDrive [backup purposes] and RAW images and videos will be stored on Google Drive for sharing with others...

RAW and ProRAW both have the output images as washed out and overexposed [at times] but the beauty of shooting in RAW/ProRAW is you can apply non-destructive edits unlike when trying to apply corrections in JPEG... The only advantage of ProRAW over RAW is it has Apple's computational algorithms applied...

You can instead shoot in HEIC/JPEG and let Apple do the color adjustments on your behalf...

I used to shoot in JPEG only in my early years of using a DSLR camera but we all know that not every shot can be the best shot [or the shot that we wanted], too dark, too bright, crop needed, etc. and turning up the brightness of an underexposed [or darkening the overexposed] JPEG image will not be as good as applying the same adjustment in RAW image...

I now shoot purely in RAW since I expect that every photo I take is not perfect and I have enough storage [local and cloud] for the bigger file size...

I love editing my photos afterwards, I know that not every photo can be pixel perfect. But editing each photo is a lot of fun, thats why I only shoot in ProRaw.

They made unwanted or unneeded changes to the Photos app so even though the dock is a design from the beginning of time [since the iPhone was introduced], some of you may get what you wish for...

That’s why I said it would be nice if it were an option, just like light/dark icons are an option, so those of us who don’t need it can remove it but it’s still there for those of us who do need it ;)

Having several options can be both good and bad... Some get overwhelmed that they just stick with the default or what they are used to...

Look at the iPhone models... Now we have four choices per series... And then we have multiple release year model every announcement... Apple was once known for it just works... Now, multiple steps, multiple options, complicating things...

Jailbreaking seems to have been brought about by lack of options... In the early years, to customize iOS and make it unique, you have to jailbreak... Now those options are being integrated natively without having to jailbreak... Wallpaper choices, font choices, icon choices, animation adjustments, and many others...

In the end, everyone wants a perfect balance, right?

As much as I’m miffed at generative AI mostly thriving off plagiarism, I did play with it last night to see how it’d go about rendering text.

Saw this after saving a random picture of a book generated using Meta’s AI:

I can’t really prove it, but Apple might have some separate model looking for a “✨” badge (which Meta is using as well) and so it’s getting confused and mislabeling it as something off their own Image Playground.

Good thoughts.
Every photo is downloaded from my iPhone (and other cameras) to an SSD and Cloud drive (switching to Proton). That way I always have the original.

One aspect that does concern me in Camera; the way a photo looks on the screen, the shot frequently comes out looking a bit different on the same screen and different again on another screen.

This.

Also one thing to consider, is that if you have photographic style enabled, lets say rich contrast then photos might look different in the Camera app preview when compered to the end result. Because colors will be changed after shutter is pressed.

If I understand this concept correctly that is.

Not for a badge, but I think now pics are getting a metadata tag showing if the image was made by AI or not.

Would it survive conversions to other formats, though? I exported it as HEIF and saw the same thing.

My front-facing camera has stopped working entirely. I don't see any other reference to such a bug on this thread. Anyone else? Thanks!
