Here’s a new strange one that may or may not have anything to do with the beta..

Updated iPhone and iPad to beta 4.
Within an hour yesterday and again today I got a notice from Apple iTunes that my billing info was incorrect.
Dropped into Settings > ID Banner > Payment & Shipping. The info in there was incorrect. It was info from last year. Keep in mind this was all updated when I moved from California to Arizona last year. I have a 50GB iCloud account that is paid monthly.

May be coincidental. Maybe not. Strange either way. I am checking other info in Settings.

Why not downgrade then?
It’s a 1TB device and redownloading all that will be more work than need be. I can wait till Monday when the next beta drops which I am hoping is more stable. It’s close enough at this point. But you’re right that is an option

No one said that next week will be a new beta …

So I have had my 14 PM dim pretty dark and wait a bit to brighten up, but it has never stayed low and never come back. Does yours never come back without you having to turn it up yourself?

Same iPhone model. Repeats itself some times. Haven’t pinned pointed it yet why/when it does it. I’ll tap the screen or anything and just stays dark/black. Pisses me off. I’ve activated AOD for now, seems to help.

I was encouraged to jump into the betas of iOS 18 with this beta 4. The first day it got very hot, but it was because of the indexing and the infernal heat that it is in Spain these days. Now it is just as fresh as in iOS 17.5.1 or the betas of iOS 17.6.
All the apps work for me without problems. As for bugs, minor ones in my opinion, I have that of the recent emojis that are constantly restored and the automatic brightness takes a long time to lower it from the maximum brightness to which it corresponds. In the camera I also notice the photos are a little more blurry, but I will do more tests to corroborate it 100% and if so, send the corresponding report to Apple.
Let's say the biggest problem is found in the RCS messages. Orange Spain has it activated, and I was testing it with a friend who uses Android. In the conversation it comes out that he uses "Text Message-RCS". I sent him two messages, and my surprise is that he said he had sent both through RCS, but after an hour, the second step of RCS was sent as SMS, which they charged me for. Both things appear green, and I don't know what went wrong, but now I have no confidence in using this option, because it seems that it randomly sends the messages as SMS, and I don't know if it is a beta or operator problem. In addition, there is also no option to avoid that if the RCS network is down or something does not work, send this message as an SMS with the corresponding cost. One message is little money, 5 is not so little anymore.

I downloaded it on Monday. It is now Thursday. And as time goes by, the phone is only getting worse not better. But yes I’m aware of the indexing. Honestly I think it’s collecting stuff for Apple even though I turned analytics off and use the feedback app to report.

This will be the last year I jump on the beta bandwagon as I have in years past with better results but the features Apple adds are less and less impressive. They could go to an every other year model for OS and little updates along the way and I’d be fine. They already can’t get things out on time or polished.

But I signed up and this is part of it this year. Just letting others know it’s not worth it in dev b4.
Nice. Taking the benefits of being on the beta but then depriving Apple of the benefits they get from allowing you to participate.

This is the buggiest beta yet from my experience.
- Volume slider is greyed out and volume can not be adjusted.
- Strange ring volume behavior and sometimes you can't even adjust it.
- Music pauses for no obvious reason.
- All my automations do not work at all.
- Strange behavior connecting to my airpods max even though I'm not wearing them. Alert sounds go to the airpods max sometimes even though I'm not wearing them.
- iMessage notifications don't sometimes get pushed to my mac.
- iPhone mirroring no longer works.
- Iphone (14 pro max) is way too slow to wake up when connected to carplay. Music also pauses for no clear reason. Brightness is also weird when connected to carplay.

You already tried to force restart / hard reset your iPhone? Most of the times it helps!

Sorry you are having all the issues.

This is a good opportunity to point out generally that the third and fourth betas have typically been the worst during the summer beta cycle. No idea why that is but it’s probably related to Apple tweaking things.

The one thing that is clear is that the betas don’t get progressively “better” throughout the cycle. We’ll start seeing improvements as we get to betas 6, 7 and 8. And that’s if Apple Intelligence doesn’t show up and disrupt the usual flow.

Went to 18.0 public beta less than 24h ago and for me battery seems fine, didnt change much from 17.5. Maybe its because I have european beta, and problem lies within some US only stuff?

Definite possibility. There are so many nuances regarding user setups and Regional requirements it makes it tough to use battery SOT, usually, as a factual indicator.

Exciting! I wonder how it will look on my Ram screen!!!

I love it!!

Mine seems to have gotten better after beta 4. Especially the keyboard lag. Not 100%, but better

On this beta my brightness is always dark when phone wakes and also is delayed to wake often. Auto brightness option not there in 18.....but true-tone is and just turned off to see. Phone is acting like there is an auto-brightness happening. 14 Pro Max

It’s under Accessibility -> Display

Lately, Waze in Apple Carplay, has been crashing on me. It just closes. When you restart it asks if you want to resume your drive.

Disagree. Sounds like your phone is uniquely being affected. So won’t be the same experience for others.

thanks for the suggestion. The hard restart did solve the iphone mirroring problem and the volume slider problem (partially, it's still weird, volume changes on its own) and my automations are back! but the other issues are still present.

I wish I had known that. I was very happy with beta 3. Lesson learned!

I second @Schtibbie — I don’t have the toggle yet Field Test Mode confirms that EE supports SA and NSA on iPhone.
Whether the toggle shows is up to the mobile network—just like some networks no longer have the 3G or VoLTE toggle despite them supporting it.

Apologies for the question but if you've performed a speed test on your iPhone, what's it been like?

Just wondered - visited Meadowhall earlier on in the year and was parked quite close to the mast. FTM showed SA & NSA for EE and got just over 1Gbps down, that's all.

RCS finally activated on my iPhone for Xfinity Mobile. Texted with two fellow Android users, seems to work fine. Just wish Apple would give up on the green bubbles. One would think they will eventually remove SMS and MMS completely from iMessage.

They cannot do that as long as SMS is the global standard. Add to that, RCS is still not "standardized" across different Android manufacturers and some mobile carriers do not support it yet.

These have been a few of the "stated" reasons that Apple has resisted supporting RCS up until now.
