iPhone 15 Pro Max, T-Mobile, has anyone noticed what appears to be the modem crashing once in a while? I go from full signal and it drops out and comes right back. I don't see it on a iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Yes, I have the same thing happen on AT&T…along with more switching between LTE and 5G

They cannot do that as long as SMS is the global standard. Add to that, RCS is still not "standardized" across different Android manufacturers and some mobile carriers do not support it yet.

These have been a few of the "stated" reasons that Apple has resisted supporting RCS up until now.
Oh top of that, Apple simply isn’t getting rid of the green bubbles. Here in the US there is a clear distinction between android and iOS users, and Apple wants to keep that distinction in iMessage. If you want iMessage, you need an iOS device. That’s a selling point here.

From what I have seen here, RCS is a bit of a mixed bag, but like you said RCS doesn’t have the standard like SMS does. I think it’s gonna be some time before Apple gets RCS stabilized.

Just got 5G Standalone toggle in this beta for my carrier, however it's greyed out

Could that mean I need a new SIM?
or it's enabled for internal testing but not available for mass?

I've realized over the last few days, using T-mobile on a 15 PM, that my carrier connection seems to crash or fail at times. Wait a few moments, and it then recovers

Didn't have that behavior before b4, not sure if it's repeatable or a fluke yet. So not so sure if it's reportable. Has anyone had similar issues?

I saw last night it now says it’s coming in the Fall, 18.1? IMG_9453.jpeg

I’m not on any beta currently, but AT&T just included 5G access to my account, perhaps all accounts. Previously I would have had to add unlimited data to my plan. We’ve had family sharing with rollover data for years with them with no need for an unlimited data plan. I now have that same 5G On setting. Previously I believe it was only 5G auto that’s was displayed. But the 5G toggle is active as I turned it on the other day. If yours is greyed out it must mean it’s coming but not active yet, but my devices have esims.

It always said that, because that's the consumer version. Developers will get Apple Intelligence in beta this summer.
They are going to call the consumer release beta? Never heard of Apple releasing a beta software to all phones outside a a beta test program. That would be a first.

Also, there is no way they release AI to developers in early August and it’s ready to go on phones in September for the release of the 16. It will still be in beta then.

I fully expect that this is gonna be push back. I don’t think anyone is seeing betas for the next month at least.

Lately, Waze in Apple Carplay, has been crashing on me. It just closes. When you restart it asks if you want to resume your drive.

iPhone 14PM
I think that's from a Waze update that doesn't play nice with IOS 18. I'm on the PB, and that exact same glitch started for me yesterday. It had been fine running on the PB until then.

I noticed an issue with Waze on Wednesday. I am not getting the crashes but I couldn't dismiss the alerts or open a new alert. I could put the address in but it seemed the screen didn't react to notifications. I thought it was just me because nobody mentioned any Waze issues.

Sorry you are having all the issues.

This is a good opportunity to point out generally that the third and fourth betas have typically been the worst during the summer beta cycle. No idea why that is but it’s probably related to Apple tweaking things.

The one thing that is clear is that the betas don’t get progressively “better” throughout the cycle. We’ll start seeing improvements as we get to betas 6, 7 and 8. And that’s if Apple Intelligence doesn’t show up and disrupt the usual flow.
Agreed...almost 100% of the time, B3 is the worst in my opinion.

I've yet to jump on since no new Siri or AI. Everything else has been fluff for me.

I'll probably join B5 though.

Couple of new ones…

From some apps I am getting duplicate Notifications (Banner). It isn’t consistent. iPhone only.

Have the Battery widget on both iPad Pro and 15PM. When not using them, on the iPhone my AirPods Pro 2, case and buds, show in the widget. On the iPad they have stopped showing. When using them, they show in both.

They’ve done it before a few times actually. Private Relay was released to consumer as a beta, for one.
That was vastly different than AI. Clearly on the website it says beta starting in the fall. All reports and rumors point 2025 for the release. I am sure there needs to beta testing first. This is Apple’s big ticket item for iOS 18.

I will add, I sure hope Apple waits until 2025 for a release out of beta. Judging from the last several iOS beta releases, early betas haven’t been great.

Has Apple enhanced Siri in IOS18? The reason I ask is Siri is far more responsive on my Iphone 15 plus and Homepod mini on 18 beta---both using Siri.

Honestly I am not sure, I don’t use Siri all that much, so I haven’t tested. Maybe someone else here can speak to that.

Apple did in fact say it would be a “Beta” when released with iOS 18.

I’m not sure how much developers will need to have access to this prior to its launch. As I believe I’ve seen in several Developer videos from Apple these features come “ for free” with the API’s. So really not much to develop against. That will change however with the more Siri related/app intent related features coming likely in 18.4.

Developers may not need access to it in the beginning, but I have to think there will be bugs that have to be worked out before it comes out of beta. iOS 18 is not just for developers but also released in public betas to test and make sure the software is iron out. Why are most of us here? We aren’t app developers.

I agree they said it would release as a beta, but what that looks like might be different than just a wide release to the public with the beta tag on it. I have to believe it will be released in the next couple of weeks to the iOS 18 beta to test some first.
