This user here https://www.reddit.com/r/iOSBeta/s/z9ZBuedQcn says he has DB6 and in his screenshot the call icon is active in recent calls! Either he doesn't have DB6 or the call icon shows when you search in Recents (obviously a bug). I have asked him but hasn't replied yet.
Ahh yes, as soon as you enter the search field the new icon comes up.
Phone button to start a call and if you click the name you see the contact details.
Pretty sure it’s currently a bug and it will come back to the overview screen too in one of the next betas.

Agreed, I was doing fine most of the day, but last night surfing IG ate up my battery quick!

I noticed that on this beta, Instagram is really draining my battery. After only 2-3 minutes of scrolling through the feed, the phone is heating up like crazy, CPU 100%. Basically unusable. Other apps are fine.

It was OK on 17.6.1 (which I upgraded from).

If I were you I would switch to Insta web version for now.

No idea why it takes them so long to update their app. They were one of the last to offer a dark mode, the notch support took forever, the list goes on with them. They are huge, why the hell can't they get their act together.

I believe they cannot push iOS 18 updated apps through the App Store before iOS 18 public release?
Apple will reject any app built with the iOS 18 version of Xcode prior to Apple calling for iOS 18-based apps. This will come about a week before the iPhone event and the release of iOS 18 to the public.

The only way around this restriction would be to hook up with a developer and get access to the TestFlight version of an app versioned for iOS 18.

Well I just mean the app being optimized for iOS in general. It hasn't been optimized for awhile now, long before iOS 18. Battery drain has been an issue for me since at least iOS 17 and late in 16.

Officially they're not suppose to do an update specifically for a beta but it's been years Apple stopped caring about that and developers do it often. It use to be you do it but just don't say that it's for beta specifically in the update notes but sometimes they even say it now and Apple doesn't do anything so I assume they don't care.

Have you seen the relationship between Apple and Facebook ? You can't think why Facebook would be slow to do something on iPhone ? And given facebooks dominance you can't imagine how/why they could get away with being slow to do updates in general ?

Also when has Facebook or their apps not been battery hogs ?

Absolutely NOT true. Developers can create workarounds for new iOS version (iOS 18 in this case) so long as they can do it without using the Xcode version for iOS 18. THAT has been done for years. But Apple will absolutely reject any app update created with the beta version of Xcode before they call for it (when the release of iOS 18 is imminent).

Thats a bit of bad business move. They can have beef with Apple, but being slow to adopt updates to the OS that dominates the most powerful markets does not really sever them well. They aren't hurting of course, but let this continue to be an issue, and it could hurt them down the road.

does bad business apply to giants ? i'd say rarely.

its precisely why many hate the state of the internet and tech in general with everything dominated by a few with no real incentive to do the right thing or consequences for doing bad things or recourse for users.

Have you rebooted? And they're all still ok?

I usually reboot my phone once a day (well, I turn it off at night) but haven't since installing this latest beta, as redoing all my Home widgets is irritating. Doing it once after the beta install was enough ;)
I haven’t rebooted since they came back.

Factually and provably incorrect.

Apps updated using Xcode for iOS 18 will not be accepted into the App Store until just before when iOS 18 is released.

The can only update using iOS 17 framework. Sometimes using that, fixes an issue in beta, but it’s not the same as the above.

Insanely annoying issue:

When you create or update a calendar event, you can double tap the time picker to get a numeric input keyboard. As of this beta, said keyboard vanishes after the first number you tap leaving you with the wrong time (e.g. if you want to enter 12:00 and you press 1, it closes and applies 00:01).

Very annoying for me, I update multiple events every day… hope B7 fixes this.

Can confirm this bug, that’s ****, did you reported it to Apple?

What?! Double tap was there for how long? Since iOS 7 I have never known about it 🤦‍♂️
Big thanks for showing that :D

And yeah bug is indeed there, reproduced and reported with your feedback id mentioned.

😐 Back to the dials for now.

I am on Beta 1 still with my 13 Pro, wanted to update to either public beta 4 or dev beta 6 - neither works, always a few moments before the update is processing the download stops and tells me the update failed to load, I am stuck at beta 1 - I wanted my backup iPhone to be at the same beta stage like my 15 PM…
Anyone can help?
I downloaded 3 times over 7GB and it does not work, restarted the iPhone already too.

And before you ask, no I don’t have PC/Mac.

Or should I just wait for the public release and then try it again?

And there is nothing to delete in storage of my phone - the update fails and deletes himself unfortunately

Shot in the dark but do you have enough free space on your phone? I don't know what's required, maybe 20-ish GB free?

I'd also try force closing all apps, do a hard reboot using the vol up->down-> hold down the power button until you see the Apple logo and try to do a software update again.

That's all I can think of without a PC/Mac.

Resetting the network settings helped - „preparing update“

Annoyingly Wifi-Calling has been disabling itself after a while for the last few betas.
This is the UK MVNO "Spusu" backed by the EE network.

I’m also with Spusu but I’ve not noticed this before. I’m on the latest developer beta and I always update via the IPSW files.

I’m on an eSIM and the WiFi calling feature was turned on months ago when I joined Spusu and it’s still on at the moment.

I’ll keep my eye on it.

On my 13 minI, FaceID for unlocking feels a little less reliable…doesn’t always work or takes a few tries. I’ve added an ‘alternative appearance’ to see if it improves. On beta 6.

It works fine on my 15 Pro Max on the same bet with the exact same software.
