This beta cycle regarding macOS, iPadOS and watchOS has been pretty ... meh. iOS is okay I guess, but nothing special too. Not much drama aside from the Apple Intelligence features and the EU "block" "gate". Let's see what the future holds. Maybe some features will be pushed up from .1 to .0 and from .2 to .1 😬

What was the „drama“ with 17? Or 16?

Seriously, what do you guys expect? Reinventing the whole operation system on a yearly basis?

maybe I'm oversensitive but it feels like Ios 18 is not ready for the release in 12 days. Seems like they need to clean up some things
Honestly, the last several years I’ve been kinda shocked when the RC is released and iOS XX.0 is deemed “good to go”. This year is no different.
The first public version is usually decent but as you can imagine, less stable than the "last" version of the previous outgoing iOS version. That said, the RC will likely be a few builds ahead of B8, and the public will even be more builds ahead. Further, 18.0.1 will probably follow quickly thereafter and be several builds ahead of the RC. Last year, we received 17.0.3 about 2 weeks after iOS 17 was launched to the public, which was 31 builds ahead of the RC, which is pretty significant. Most folks won't install the newest update for 1-2 weeks and that by that time I would argue the newest iOS version available to the public is fine for daily use.

Not always. iOS 17.0 RC was 21A329 and then the public build released was
021A331 (2 builds ahead). 3 days later we received 17.0.1, which was 21A340 (9 builds ahead). Further interesting is that last years’ new iPhones were released to consumers on a different version of iOS 17 with 21A327, likely because software was installed before the software was finalized since it was “older” than the RC.

There should be a more steadfast stream of new AI features in the .1 betas. I’m surprised that Apple didn’t ramp up the release cadence of the .1 with every week introducing a new feature that was announced at WWDC but won’t be launched with the regular releases next week. It’s painfully slow IMO

Yep. Unfortunately I think we will see more features in 18.2 betas

While I’m not expecting it at all, iOS 18.1 Beta 4 would be an awesome surprise today…

But, yeah, I’m thinking it’ll be on the 10th or MAYBE the 1pm PST / 4pm EST window on the 9th after the RC is released after the event.

All depends, I think, on how fast they want to get it out there.

So the RC is coming after the event on Monday, will it be the whole release - I mean will it be a huge gigabyte update for all of us coming from iOS 18 beta 8?
