Wait what? There have been 8 betas for quite a few iOS versions. This is just a .0 list, that list getting bigger the versions you add. It is not uncommon for beta 1 to run more than a week as well as others in the cycle. So This could be over 2 months of testing easy. Pushing this back further would be pushing the limit of getting it out in April. Apple has it scheduled out perfectly, and I can guarantee you it will be a lengthy beta cycle.

Thanks for pointing out that not every cycle has a predictable number of seeds. Yes it depends on what Apple is trying to accomplish, not that one year after another is somewhat predictable. Hey 18.x brought Monday seeding, this year is different. So our accuracy will improve the more we know, and that is about nothing with 18.4 except for some of the features.

He stated that there weren’t many .x-Updates with 8 or more betas and that is indeed true. For .0-Versions (major release) there are always 8 or more betas, for .x-Updates (feature- or minor-release) not so much.
I do not believe there will be more than usual betas. Just five betas for 18.4 is my guess.

And what’s a „full beta cycle“ as some are saying? A beta cycle is not full of it has less than 5 betas? Or 6?
A beta-cycle is just as long as the dev-team wants it to be.
I disagree. This update constitutes more betas. If any .x update has ever needed more betas, this is the one that does. Not sure why you guys are saying 4 or 5. This is a massive update to the core of iOS. This is as big if not bigger than the entire iOS 18 update, and that was 8 betas.

I was going to reply, but @Cobold covered it.

And anyway, 18.2 was a pretty major update with the ChatGPT integration and Visual Intelligence and Image playground and Mail categories and expanded writing tools, and it only had 4 betas.

The one time they did 8 betas of a .x (emphasis on the DOT), it was COVID related features and they were basically developing new features on the fly as people were beta testing them. So it needed a longer beta period.

18.2 isn't nearly the same in terms of what is happening in iOS. You do know what 18.4 is going to entail right? This affects way more than adding custom emojis and creating AI images. These were all pretty standard AI practices from all the AI software. To this point, no one has pulled off what Apple is going to attempt in 18.4, so I have a hard to comparing it to any update we have seen in iOS 18 or for that matter in the last several years.

Still exceedingly silent with 18.4 tidbits before whenever the beta cycle initiates.
Apple is probably doing a good job of keeping rumors and leeks down. Especially considering how big of an update this is rumored to be, it would make sense to try to keep leakers from spoiling it. 👍🏻

You really think it’s possible they have on screen awareness and all that ready? I would be seriously impressed. Hopefully Monday we will see!

Recent articles on MacRumors and elsewhere stated an embargo exists for no activity about topic. Not so much Apple is doing a good job of investigating rogue sources. ;)

Do any of the tech sites or YTers get early access to betas? I always thought Apple kept betas completely internal.

I think your correct, only early samples of hardware for promoting that on sites and YouTube.

Ok, so I don’t understand the comments about embargo‘s. No one should know anything about timing of betas and what is included. I understand leaks might happen, but for that embargo’s don’t matter. Leakers are telling everything they know no matter what.

Oh, certainly. They’re already developing iOS 19, they probably have been working on Siri on-screen awareness for several months now, presumably even before iOS 18 was announced. Whether or not they’re ready to release it for developer betas next week is something none of us can say for sure, but I think it is likely considering that Apple will probably want to run a full beta cycle for iOS 18.4 with how large of an update it is rumored to be. 👍🏻

I just remember it being mentioned in previous cycles. That major Apple focused websites try to work from Apple’s legal perspectives to avoid being sources of leaks about the time they were warning all those more well known online parties.

The new Siri coming out this spring lines up with the rumors of the new home pod that will have a screen. Curious what they have in store, think they usually do an event in march right?

And this from macrumors…

When Will Apple Release the iOS 18.4 Beta?

With iOS 18.3 out the door, attention will soon turn to iOS 18.4, which is expected to be a more substantial upgrade, particularly when it comes to Apple Intelligence.

Generic iOS 18

While the initial beta of an iOS update frequently arrives within just a few days after the public release of the previous version, the gaps can sometimes be as long as several weeks. We haven't yet seen the first beta of iOS 18.4, and given the substantial Apple Intelligence updates coming in the update, it's possible we may have to wait a bit longer than usualfor Apple to begin pushing it out for testing.

A bit longer probably refers to the week out we are from the public release of 18.3. It’s already been a bit longer. Personally, I’m hoping for 18.4 beta 1 beginning of next week, and I think that release schedule makes sense. 👍🏻

Let’s hope it’s Monday. By then the suspended users should be back. We know who those are.

I am anticipating the Chinese support in Apple Intelligence rumored to be included in version 18.4 beta. At very least I will be able to log into my WeChat on the phone AI enabled and test how will improve life.
