Yeah, I think even if they went all the way to April 30th, it would still only land us at like 6 or 7 betas if they waited until next week. Not a very long beta cycle for the update that is supposed to be the update of all iOS 18…
The 30th is a Wednesday which is unlikely for a full release, so if it was pushed to very end I am looking at April 28th. If they run let's say 6 betas, thats only 10 weeks. There isn't much room for 2 week gaps that we normally get at the beginning. Also that isn't including the RC. I think it's a stretch. If they only release 4 betas, I think that is a very poor choice.

They could do 8 betas with a schedule like this, easily-

Beta 1: February 10
Beta 2: February 24
Beta 3: March 10
Beta 4: March 17
Beta 5: March 24
Beta 6: March 31
Beta 7: April 7
Beta 8: April 14
RC: April 22
Public release: April 28

what’s all the pointing out a „complete beta cycle“? Did 18.3 not have a complete beta cycle? It had a beta 1 to start with and a release marking the end of the beta cycle. That is what I (and everybody familia with software development) call a complete beta cycle.
What makes a cycle complete for you? 6 betas? 8? Why not 27 so it’s even more complete!
8 betas is what many people are saying would be a complete beta cycle for an update of this scale. If they postpone it till next week, I think we’d be at like 6 or 7, which isn’t very great for an update of this magnitude. Especially considering for a much more minor update we went through two release candidate updates. So postponing till next week wouldn’t give much time to work out bugs and test this Godzilla-sized iOS update, which just doesn’t make much sense to a lot of us…

The problem with that though is typically the first 2 or 3 betas have a 2 week gap in between. So you’re basically condensing the timeline by making only one a 2 week gap, instead of the 2-3 that are usually there.

I’m not. Beta 1 to beta 2 is a 2 week gap. Beta 2 to beta 3 is a 2 week gap. And it’s very rare for there to be a 2 week gap from beta 3 to 4 for a .x release, unless it’s like over the Christmas holidays.

Ok, I misread that. But that’s still cutting it extremely close on the end. What if they need another RC version? If they need an RC2, there’d be no time and they’d be breaking their April deadline.

I know, you won't like it, but i fear, they're simply not ready for prime time and the pressure isn't enough to proclaim that already - so they delay as long as they can... ¯\_(シ)_/¯

Honestly, I think the odds of 8 betas are pretty low to begin with. It’s only happened once before outside of the major summer beta updates. And that was for 14.5, which had all those Covid related features, so they didn’t have a lot of time for pre-development.

This is all assuming they are releasing 18.4 to the public as late as 28th. This is most likely going to coincide with the release of the new iPhone SE so it's really anyones guess when that will happen in April.

Or there's not an April deadline and it's coming out in May. The only bit of official information Apple has offered is that something will be coming "this Spring".

I think this is the case to be honest. They over promised, and now that time is up for the REAL ai features to come out, they’ve got nothing.

I doubt that. Apple has a plan. They’ve almost certainly been working on these features since before they even announced iOS 18. I highly doubt that they ran out the clock and then at the end are like “oh no, what are we going to do?!”… They have a plan.

Hopefully we get 18.4 beta 1 tomorrow. It’s disappointing we didn’t get it today, but I’m still hopeful for this week. I don’t see any reason it wouldn’t drop this week, and if it doesn’t happen this week, we wouldn’t get a full complete beta cycle, which I think we’re going to want/need for an update of the size that 18.4 is rumored to be.
I’m a bit confused. I totally get that we’re all super excited about the new beta, but Apple hasn’t given us a specific release date. They can start whenever they’re ready to release the big update, and they could even push it back later in May.

Tim Cook said that Apple Intelligence is coming to more languages in April. This would be part of 18.4, so 18.4 has to release in April. So no, they can’t just “push it back later in May”.

I think they will push everything that was supposed to be in 18.4 to 19. They will give the 18.3 features to other countries. They failed, it is what it is.

/s but at the same time I wonder lol

There’s no reason to believe that. How have they “failed”? And how can you be so certain they have “failed” when we haven’t even seen half of the likely iOS 18 updates?

I’m sorry, but this makes no sense. You can speculate on here because that’s what it’s for, but it’s got to be realistic or there is absolute no point in this thread.
