Apple has always been late. They usually prefer to get it right than be first or even “on time”. It’s usually perfect timing for them. Plus the intentions are something new. The competitors aren’t doing that.
If it wasn't for the chatGPT craze we probably wouldn't have seen anything AI till iOS 19 or 20. It's why we only got AI on 15Pro and later.

I hope you are right! I'm from Belgium (speaking French) and just bought an iPhone 16 pro yesterday. I just settled my iPhone to English just to test AI and I'm honestly hyped! It would be great to be able to test it in French!

Yes unfortunately for you that definitely won't come with iOS 18.4. They focus first on languages spoken in multiple countries :'( You probably won't see this in Norwegian before iOS 19 release or even 2026
Hopefully today is the day! 👍🏻. As someone pointed out, 17.4 dropped on a Thursday, so maybe 18.4 will follow suit.
Eh. The way I see it, they're late, they know it, and so does everybody else. Nothing will change that. Therefore, any new AI-centric features they put out should be as polished as possible, so that they aren't both late AND bad.

I would like to be wrong (and have a surprise release today), but this is what I am thinking as well.

I just did some digging, and apparently iOS 14.4, 15.4, 16.4, and 17.4 all released first betas on Thursdays. I haven’t gone further back than 14.4 yet, but that seems like quite a trend actually. We may actually have a pretty good chance of 18.4 beta 1 dropping today! 👍🏻
PS, 12.4 and 13.4 were on Wednesdays, so it looks like 14.4 was beginning of this trend. Chances aren’t looking to bad… 👍🏻🙂
