For the record…
iOS 16.3: January 23
tvOS 16.3.1: February 6
iOS 16.3.1: February 13
iOS 16.4 Beta 1: February 16

Anyone who says we haven’t gotten a X.3.1 before a X.4 beta is just straight up wrong.
Same goes for people who think that a X.X.1 hasn’t been released the week after a X.X update, yes, it absolutely has.
18.3.1 coming before 18.4 Beta 1 isn’t unprecedented and isn’t unheard of.

Again, putting words in my mouth…. I didn’t say it’s never happened, I said it’s rarely happened in the history of most of Apple’s updates…

Back to speculation please
OK, we will see 18.3.1 early next week and 18.4 B1 either near the end of next week or the beginning of the following week.
Would match with what happened two years ago with iOS 16, where 16.3 released in the last full week of January, 16.3.1 released at the top of the second full week in February and 16.4B1 released near the end of that week on February 16.
That’s my speculation.
I also speculate that we will see 18.3.2 sometime throughout March, probably around the launch of the M4 MacBook Airs.

Well never know for sure, but I would venture to guess this 18.4 beta 1 delay and 18.3.1 being found in the logs points to a security patch.....

Posts have been removed. Enough with the bickering.

Couldn’t agree more, this thread has seriously downgraded for me. Used to enjoy it and the value of information flowing through was incredible.

Now it’s just a load of total nonsense because it’s seems you can speculate about anything from the weather, how useless Apple is and bickering.

Ok so i guess the big question for next week is which comes first 18.3.1 or 18.4b1..... Or do they drop them on the same day (doubtful).... What do you guys think?

I can see 18.4 beta coming next week along with releases of new product(s). I'm sure Apple will love to call out new AI features coming in press releases for the new iPhone SE and maybe new Macs and iPads.

I think we will see 18.3.1 releasing towards the end of the week at the earliest.

If 18.3.1 is tied to the new devices, I can see it going either way. They could release 18.3.1 first, and then release it for the new devices separately when they’re released. Or, they can do 18.4 first and release 18.3.1 all at once for every device when the new devices are available.

Generally speaking, new hardware would most likely require a "point release" and not just a "point.point" release. I'd assume new hardware would be tied to iOS 18.4 / macOS 15.4.

I think it has been reported that the new iPhone SE ships with a special build of 18.3 (22D8063). It's likely 18.3.1 will provide additional fixes for the new phone as well as general bug fixes for all other iOS devices. I don't think it'll be a day and date release with the SE but will be available by launch day (which could be 21st February if you go with Apple's typical scheduling post-announcement).

I doubt that 18.3.1 drops before 18.4, especially if it is tied to new hardware. We’re far enough out from 18.4 releasing to the public that it would basically be impossible for 18.4 to add support for new products sold this month. So 18.3.1 would likely be for that purpose, which would place it probably releasing week after next. A lot of times the update that adds support for new hardware doesn’t drop until the new hardware is available, and usually that’s about a week after Apple announces it. So I’m guessing that we will see iOS 18.4 beta 1 drop next week, and iOS 18.3.1 drop the week after next week, which would also align closer to the norm since iOS 18.3 just dropped about a week ago. I see no pressing need for 18.3.1 to be rushed out, and all the signs point to it dropping later since it likely has to be the update that adds support for the new devices. I think 18.4 beta 1 will drop next week though so that we can get closer to a full beta cycle for 18.4 since it’s rumored to be such a big update.

I totally agree! If 18.3.1 is going to add support for new devices, then it likely will not drop next week, and would be about 2 weeks out from releasing.
