Yeah, and it looks like Mark Gurman got it wrong yet again when he claimed those features were being delayed and move to iOS 18.5.
How does that make him wrong? Apple saying "in the coming months" does not mean it's coming in 18.4. Say it did get delayed and we get 18.5 in May/June. That is still "in the coming months"...

The iPhone 16E official page clearly mentions 'personal context' under Apple Intelligence with an asterisk saying 'Some features will become available in software updates in the coming months.' so, it's definitely still happening.
It's said that since September on the Apple Intelligence page.

Can I ask how does the beta not being out yet prove Gurman was wrong about delays or whatever? And what exactly has Gurman done to make you despise him so much?
Gurman tweeted the beta would be out between the middle of last week and the beginning of this week.
He basically said anywhere from February 12 to February 18.
It is now February 19, still nothing.
Likewise he said the new 16E would be announced early next week, and here we are a week and a half later and it’s finally announced.

Gurman absolutely has sources within apple and when it comes to the wide ranging future plans, he’s mostly correct.
But when it comes to dates and times of things that’ll happen he’s frequently way, way off.
Look at his iPad Pro track record from last year, first it was “March” then “late March” then “April” then “May” and by the time that May was fast approaching he had completely switched his wording from a specific time to “spring”.
You start to lose trust in the guy once he randomly moves the goal posts, then take all the credit for being wrong.

My only other thinking is the beta releases are linked to this apparent visionOS press briefing. I have to assume that’s to show off and announce AI on the Vision Pro, and until those stories are released by the press and/or Apple announces it officially, we won’t see new betas.

This has definitely been one of the longest waits for a beta I can remember in a long time. Hopefully the drought will be over soon.

Welp, I guess it could be tomorrow, but have they ever released a first major update beta on a Thursday? I'm curious to see a John Gruber article with what his "little birdies" have to say on why this 18.4 release appears to have been such a cluster.

That’s not what he said. He said 18.4 beta between the middle of this week and early next week. He was initially wrong about the SE, I’ll give you that, but he clarified on Tuesday that it would be next week.
there is a little time left for him to be SADLY wrong about the 18.4 too

Exactly, it doesn't prove he was wrong. It's very well plausible that Apple was planning to start the betas earlier, but ran into complications and had to push things out. We will never know Apple's side of the story of what actually transpired. Apple isn't a god and isn't perfect either. Remember AirPower that they announced at an event and that it was "coming soon"? Or them saying CarPlay 2.0 was coming before the end of 2024?

I think one of his most recent posts will be the real test. He said Apple Intelligence is coming to the Vision Pro in visionOS 2.4 (and that the beta is coming this week). Never has Apple released a major feature to another platform that wasn't announced during WWDC or stated on their site. They've always been released to the other platforms the following year (i.e. widgets, App Library, new Lock Screen customization).

Just for the people wondering why all the Gurman backlash…
This was posted the Friday before last, or 12 days ago.
"Next week" in that quote was last week. "The following week" is this week. This week isn't over yet so there's still time, though it's not exactly "early" anymore.

He said mid last week or early this week for the beta release, we were officially past early this week yesterday when it didn’t drop, so he was wrong on the beta release timing. But today he is proven wrong yet again on his claim that the new Siri features like Personal Context would be postponed for release in iOS 18.5. Apple just confirmed today that those features will be available in April. So he was wrong on two of his recent claims.

Also, I don’t despise Mark Gurman, but I take his “predictions” (read guesses) with a heavy dose of salt, and I don’t respect how he seems to always reframe things to try to save face instead of just saying “hey guys, I had bad info and got this one wrong”. “Delayed” is becoming his favorite word as it serves as a rescue device whenever he gets stuff wrong, which is pretty often…

Everyone loves Gurman when he’s right, and hates him when he’s wrong 🙄.

Make your mind up!
You have to take his word with a large pinch of salt, because he’s very up and down with accuracy - it’s a rough guide call it.

Hopefully this will reduce the amount of people’s knickers getting in a twist.

Well they ain’t gonna be happy when he’s wrong are they…. And of course they will be happy and love him if he’s right 🤷 people can change views on someone lol

apple has forgotten about 18.4
Here's my prediction:

18.4 beta 1 tomorrow
some but not all new AI features implemented
focus on additional languages & bug fixes
still targeted for April release
beta period doesn’t need to be as long

18.5 beta 1 by the end of March
same as concurrent 18.0 & 18.1 betas
this will complete the AI features
release sometime by end of May
allows for longer beta testing
