Thanks for the reply. I will post some pics tomorrow when I am in my car. It is possible I have been missing something. I usually just get the single route fastest option.

You’ll only see multiple options if you are in the macro/overview mode. If you’re in the closeup/turn by turn mode the additional options will not be presented.

I figured it out! Apple is going to use all the imagery from people taking pictures with Visual Intelligence to finish up LookAround in the US. We’ll only need to wait another 5 years!

Good evening, I have a quick question for the Americans in this forum. I will be traveling to the United States (Memphis). I need to rent a car. Is CarPlay available in the vehicles? If you have any tips, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

In my experience, CarPlay is available in most rental vehicles. It’s not always wireless CarPlay though, so be sure to bring a cable. If you want to be safe, you could mention to the agent that you want a vehicle with CarPlay, and they can probably point you to one with it.

I can’t remember the last time I rented a car that DIDN’T have CarPlay…but like was said above, maybe have both USB-A and C to cables to connect to your phone. Some cars still only have USB-A for some reason.

This

But in my experience *most * now have wireless CarPlay. My last car had no ports at all so I thought I was out of luck. But it was actually wireless CarPlay only. Took me awhile to find the setting to allow me to use it. Every manufacturer is different. And sometimes a single manufacturer will have different settings for different cars.

I also have a question about CarPlay and Apple Maps in general… every time I look through Apple Maps for a place (for example a restaurant, a national park or something like that) it keeps showing me the route to this place in CarPlay. So when I start my car it does not show my current location (Europe, I always drive with Apple Maps open) but starts to calculate a route to this place (I often look for places outside of my country so I often get a route from Poland to a national park in the USA for example). It is very frustrating, so I have to use both Google and Apple Maps simultaneously- Google Maps for casual looking for places and Apple Maps for navigating. Is it possible to stop Apple Maps from proposing me, every time I connect my phone to CarPlay, a route to the last place (even when the last place is on another continent!), I was looking for?

Yes...do what I do.

When you touch on a POI in Apple Maps, and it stays open for more than a few seconds, even after you close it, it remains on your Maps home screen under "Siri Suggestions". Siri assumes you may want to go to this place sometime soon. Addresses that people send you in Messages can also sometimes find their way into the Siri Suggestions area on Maps.

If you see a POI or an address listed under Siri Suggestions, just swipe left on it to remove it. As long as this area is empty before you close Maps on your phone, Siri should not be suggesting anything when you get into your car and open Maps in CarPlay. (Other significant destinations, such as Home or Work.)

A ton of flyover and other detailed updates around the US and the rest of the world over the past couple of months (since this post was last updated). I know we don't track every little detail on here, but hoping this is indicative of the larger DCE/detailed road markings/terrain/etc. we've been discussing for the past couple of years for the US and UK...as well as countrywide LookAround of course.

We have a pretty active community over on Reddit if anyone is interested for more of these type of updates and questions. And while I know some of you are on Reddit already, if your not, being over there and still being here basically covers all Apple Maps features and updates (and I wouldn't mind some of your expertise in answering some questions over there every once in a while...😉)

Apple Maps SubReddit

I'm torn about what happened last year with Apple Maps. On one hand, there were numerous updates to the Look Around and Flyover images. On the other hand, there were countries that did not receive the New Map Data, and only one city for the DCE. Does this mean that Apple is not capable of doing everything at once? Or is Apple focusing on other tasks (full coverage of Look Around in the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland, and maybe the DCE) and therefore updating Flyover and Look Around images because it requires less work than the DCE and the New Map Data?

I'm also wondering if Apple might release everything in the United States in 2026 because of the World Cup being held there.

Since I travel globally quite a bit but do not live in a Look Around/DCE area, I REALLY want it. Hah.

It truly is that amazing when it is not something you experience on a daily basis. And that’s not to say that I don’t already think the basic map is so much better than other options out there…at least from a visual routing standpoint.

POI data is good…but always could be better!

So…not sure why I just decided to check, but my house now has Flyover/3D satellite. Something is happening.

When Beaufort, SC gets it, something big can’t be far behind.
