I think people will complain about any change no matter what and it’s not actually about the shape of the icon.
I agree there are some people like that, but there are also people like me who are fine with change, but really just don’t like the circle icons proposed in some mockups, and would rather not be forced into using those…

Well then I’m not talking about you.

And one thing is the corner radius of the phones matches the current icons, so them deferring from that I think is unlikely.

But another point though is if they really are trying to give devices the same design and icons, I can’t see Apple Watch and Vision Pro going to square, I think it’s much more likely that iPhone and iPad will go circle. IF they are trying to make all devices the same.

iOS 26 Leaked:

Screenshot 2025-06-04 121340.jpg

Your apps are now cards you can fan apart. Everything bubbles around where you touch with neat zoom effects. Bottom tab bars. It brings back Adobe Flash support! And icons are kind of circles, but can edge outside of the circle slightly. Looks incredibly sleek and modern.

Because people are way overreacting and I think its silly, life will go on if it is a circle.

And I don’t just mean people on here, I mean comments on X and Reddit too. Apple fans can be a little….much, to put it lightly.

Edit: but if I had to bet, I would bet they will not be circles.
So true, so true.

I think something like this design is very plausible for iOS 19, 25, or 26. 👍🏻. I’m excited to see what we get at WWDC25! 👍🏻

Anybody expecting anything life changing is going to be disappointed. It’s aesthetics. Could be cool looking but won’t impact my life in any way.

But the changes are rumored to go beyond mere aesthetics, and make practical changes in apps and other things across the system as well…

It's subjective. As far as I'm concerned, I'm only interested in aesthetics and I'm not just talking about icons, I want the entire iOS 7 UI that I had to use for 12 years to disappear. For the rest, the iPhone already does everything.

I pray a new keyboard layout as I can’t type without always hiting the ….. button. It’s so much harder to type than android. Also I wish we got split screen multitasking on iphone but after marks report it seems just a ui change so a fresh coat of paint that’s it

I’m pretty sure we’ll see more than just a paint coat. I don’t know what they’ll do with the keyboard or any of those other things, but all of the reports I’ve seen indicate the changes will go beyond paint job level, and that there will be quite a few robust features. With the rumored Stage Manager for iPhone, it could make sense that that would be accompanied by a Split View on screen feature. 👍🏻

I don’t know what Gurman report you’re referencing, but Gurman said as recently as like a week ago that we’d be seeing some substantial features, and it would be more than just a paint job…

Tomsguide is reporting this just yesterday: https://www.tomsguide.com/phones/iphones/ios-26-all-the-new-features-coming-to-your-iphone

He has tweeted saying there will be minimal new features and just a ui change which he originally said it’s not just a fresh coat of paint. Unfortunately I think it’s just a ui change and nothing to new

I very much doubt that, but I guess we’ll see. All of the other leakers are still reporting some big features like Stage Manager coming to the iPhone. I highly doubt that the only thing Apple would ship for this whole next year would be a UI change. Apple likes to show off a full bento box.

And nothing in that article you linked suggests those will be the only changes coming. It’s just providing some more details about what the new design could look like. That doesn’t mean that’s the only change.

PS, also chased down the tweet, he’s saying minimal new AI features, not minimal features in general, and also says focus will be on new UI and productivity, which implies new features that are productivity-oriented.

Sounding more and more like we won’t hear much about Siri or AI until 26.3 or .4.

so now we are gettting no Gemini integration after an entire year of teasing it? That’s disappointing if true.

Upgraded AI models with no new features? That will look great on the bento box, but probably not even get a name check.

Stage Manager on the iPhone? What credible leaker is behind this? I seen rumors of plugging the iPhone in an external monitor and getting Stage Manager that way… but not on the iPhone itself.

But in terms of multi-tasking… I can see Apple borrowing from the Android world and having a 90:10 split. IMO, the reason SplitView doesn’t exist on the iPhone is because of the smaller screen… so, instead of doing a 50:50 split which has long existed on Android.

Apple decides to do the 90:10 split and iPhone users can alternate between two-apps.

That’s what I was talking about, plugging an iPhone into a monitor and getting Stage Manager. But I could see an on-screen Split View mode accompanying it as you are describing. 👍🏻
