Hi, Just found something cool in Reminders that I didnt realise,
I set a reminder to simply 'Call Dad'.
When the reminder alert came up this morning, it actually had a button on it for 'Call', which allowed me to call Dad straight from the alert.
Cool shortcut.
P.

Do you need the 4S and Siri for this? I can't get it to work. I've tried various combinations of names matching those in my contact list.

Quick view after taking photos

Typically after taking photos you'd have to hit the small preview button on the bottom left.

I just found that after taking a pic (Or before for that matter) you can now swipe the screen to open up the camera roll.

In the music player (formally the iPod) if your playlist, album etc is to long to see on the screen hold your finger on it and it shows the whole line.

Handy.

I may be late to the party. But it's no longer the fault of my 3rd gen iPod touch.
As the clock sets itself now. Keeps the same time as my iPhone now. Used to be every other sync it needed the clock reset. Chime beeps in stereo now.

I us Notes for grocery lists (and others). I have one each for the various stores I frequent (Lowe's, Target, "groceries" etc._ And now with Siri, I can say "add toothpaste to my Target note" and it does!

And then your Notes sync to all other devices on the same account. So you can add then to the iPad and read them on the phone, etc.

in reminders, just tap the button with the 3 lines in the top left, you'll be in the lists menu, hit Edit, then choose "create new list" and call it Groceries and there you go!!

wow. finally!! thanks, been on iOS 5 since beta, and I just found this out.
embarrassed. but great find!

it's done that since iOS4, does it with videos in safari too :)

In the calculator app, you can hold your finger on the answer and do a copy&paste to documents, emails, ...

----------

I have a groceries reminder list which is shared with my wife which is really practical. For example , if I'm at work and she adds to the grocery list, I'm automatically notified by email that an item has been added to the list. #

Thanks...I guess? Is there an advantage to using Reminders rather than Notes? I guess because you could tie a reminder to a location, then when you arrive at the hardware store, the grocery, etc, it pulls up your list?

You can't share notes unless your sharing your iCloud, which is a bad idea. The grocery thing is working great for us too...

Played/Unplayed Status

I have noticed that TV Shows and Podcasts magically sync their played, partially played and unplayed status across my iPhone and iPad. This seems to happen as long as both devices are on the same wifi network. Keep in mind I'm not talking about Wi-Fi Sync! this is something else, kind of like the way iBooks syncs pages read and whatnot. The only bummer to this is that iTunes doesn't get this same "magic" play status sync so the device that actually played the media has to do a full sync in order for its played/unplayed flag to get flipped. Which makes it mostly useless for now, but still i didn't see any documentation of this!

Any one else seeing this?

Shouldn't iOS 5 now allow background app downloads without leaving the AppStore? Because it's not happening in my case

Oh yeah, and a little undocumented thing: They changed the Snooze button when an alarm is going off :p

always worked this way

Mine has always worked this way and continues to. I'll setup half a dozen update downloads or new apps purchases and it continues to download in the background. It isn't a constant, it will resume the process after it understands that you aren't about to make a call or do something else processor intensive.
