My battery dropped 20% in an hour. I'm on an iPhone 6. Is this normal for new installs? Does it level out after a few days?
Try a reboot. My 6 Plus was working hard after updating but an hour later I performed a reboot. Now everything is smooth and battery is much better than any of the iOS 9 betas.

How does one go about performing a reboot? It's not simply holding down the sleep/wake button and the home button is it? Because I already did that and it didn't really do anything.

5s. Last night when I updated I was at 2 hours at 29% After letting it die completely and charging it I only got 3 hours today before it died. Was getting 6 on 8.4.1

I thought so. A lot of problems and complaints are random one-offs. Not so with the 5S and iOS 9. I can't help...other than to say that the 5S and iOS 9 really don't seem to mix well, which is NOT how things should be working...but you knew that...

[EDIT - sorry, looks like 9.1 is what you are talking about, disregard] For what it's worth, the 9.1 PB is giving me much better battery life on my Air 2 than 9.0. Might be worth trying that, if that isn't what you're going back to 8.4.1 from.

Thanks for the feedback. You're like the 15th person I've seen with battery life issues with iOS 9 GM on the 5s.

I'll gladly stay with 8.4.1 on my 5s for a while then.

Hold the sleep/wake button till the slide to power off screen comes up. Slide to power off. Wait a few seconds then press the sleep/wake button again.

Or

You can hard reboot and hold the sleep/wake button and home button until it reboots. Something like 3 seconds.

My 5s is horrible on 9.1. Unplugged it less than 2.5 hours ago, down to 72% now and I've probably had 45 minutes screen time. Loosing about 1% every 1-2 minutes in safari.

First charge on 6 plus. I've been getting around 5-6 hours usage in 9.0 betas so seems solid.

Better on iPad as well :)

Much better than B5 on my 5S. Only problem is Facebook. Background activity is draining the battery

9.1 feels like its given my 5S a new lease of life, it really has, considering the disaster that was Beta5 of 9.0, it feels like I've had a new battery put in.

Bearing in mind this thing is tethered by bluetooth to my watch all day, in beta 5 I was unable to do that because the phone would be dead sometime between 10am and 11am after unplugging at 7am.

It's 7pm now and I have 67% battery, I couldn't be happier :D

Although, less said about Watch OS 2GM the better, though! It died at 6pm

Posted this to another thread but I'd expect app updates to help with any battery life issues people are having. I've got a few apps misbehaving and running less efficiently than others. If you've got an app that's used 30% battery in 1-2 hrs of screen time, that may be the problem.

After reading this thread, I decided to go from iOS 9 GM to iOS 9.1 beta 1 as well. And yes, I can confirm there's indeed a positive difference. The Golden Master already ran very well (better than what many people claim to experience), but iOS 9.1 is again another difference. And I'm quite shocked with that. I mean, why not bring all the improvements from iOS 9.1 to the GM? Should not be an issue at all. And it would make more people happy about the performance and all.

So far I can't tell how battery life is. But performance is definitely better. :)

I'm on an iPhone 6 and I experience this as well.

While the GM may be more smooth than the Betas, it is no where near a clean install of 8.4.1. I clean installed 9, used it for 20 minutes, and quickly went back to 8.4.1. 8.4.1 is currently far more responsive, but iOS 9.1 or .2 should be better.

Knowing how Apple slows down older devices, I'm not sure I'm going to upgrade my 6 to iOS 9. iOS 8 ended its life as a fast and stable release. iOS 9 has very minor upgrades. I'd rather ensure that my device is running quickly than risk slowing down my device. If there's an overwhelming positive response from iOS 9 in the future, I'll reevaluate. But some people are reporting iOS 9 as fast and responsive, which I know to be false, so trusting others could backfire.

Errrr....dude do you really believe Apple is purposely slowing down devices with software updates? Yes, they are cutting features that these devices could easily handle (Siri on the 4...) but it's not really how you are describing it.

On topic: How is battery life on the 6 with 9.1 compared to 8.4.1?

They will bring the 9.1 improvements to 9.0 when they release that 9.1 update.

I've been getting about 4 1/2 hours of battery life usage from every single iOS9 beta including the GM and now 9.1 as well…I can't remember what the usage used to look like pre-iOS9, but I feel like it was a little bit better on iOS 8. iPhone 6 here. Clean install.

EDIT: haven't noticed any noticeable difference in performance between the last nine beta, the GM, and now 9.1…All buttery smooth here. The only stutter is when pulling down spotlight search for the first time in a few minutes. Occasional dropped frames in the app switcher. Otherwise, no issues at all. (Aside from Double-Click from lock screen not working to pull up Wallet-I created a separate thread on this and seems to be an isolated issue)
