Can anyone replicate this issue on Air 2?Open 3 or more apps, than come back to home screen and than double press the home button to trigger app switcher and without touching screen press home button to return to home screen. Is there very heavy stuttering as it transitions?

^^ yes the App switcher has been deliberately coded to bring down the experience on Air 2.

They MUST make iPad Pro look faster and smoother than any previous iPad ain't it?

I am seeing a pattern here. When Air 2 got released, Air 1 was made to stutter at few places. Eg during Safari keyboard pop up and screen rotation.

Now iPad Air 2 has fallen prey to same tactic.

No speculation here. Just stating the obvious.

Only speculation is, iPad Pro would be 60fps smooth at same exact place.

I'm sure there will be some combing the iPad Pro with a magnifying glass and will discover some random area it stutters. And have a long list of steps that no one would encounter like the post above yours to "reproduce" it.

cause its true, if someone HATEs, apple, why sit around here buying more iphones every year, crying every year?

hmmmm...
So you think this article just published yesterday is by a hater?

Oh and so much for the "5%" suffering from stutter gate when as he article puts it "And even the most cursory of glances at Apple's support forum reveals that I'm not the only one having these problems"

And my iPad Air still runs like sh**.

I remember when I just got it (iOS 7), it ran so smoothly. Now? Can't even scroll through a webpage without stuttering like an old man.

Thanks Apple. This is why I won't be buying your iPad "Pro", because we all know you are going to come out with a second gen next year with 3D Touch and no other compelling features but will release an OS update to cripple the first generation.

Long list?LOL.Just have 3 or more apps open and than turn on and off the app switcher on the Air 2.Its that simple. And it's something basic which everyone does when working on iPad

And Apple forums as any other forums always have people complaining, even about the beloved iOS 8.1.4 or 7.1.2 versions and even before that with iOS 6 and earlier. It doesn't mean that things apply the same way to many others or that the iOS devices are doomed. It's been like that for years and like that in Micrisoft forums and most forums about most things out there. It doesn't mean that Apple is perfect or that there aren't issues to deal with, just that there doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary and overall iOS 9 has been better for more people compared to the last few major releases.

And the apologists continue to live in denial. Wake up. Apple touted iOS 9 as a performance focused release that theoretically was supposed to improve...you guessed it...performance.

From all the iOS devices that I own, even the latest 6S plus, I am seeing major stutters in system animations.

Now, if you are just some dude who only uses Facebook and twitter but somehow perceives yourself as a "power user" then of course you won't see any lags.

Yeah, the performance promise makes the sluggish performance of iOS 9 hard to swallow. I could've lived with similar performance to iOS 8.4.1. Now Apple is saying they're making things better but they're actually making things worse.

Or quite a few people don't see major stutters and just some dropped frames here and there. Sure it's still somethings that should be fixed, and sure perhaps the performance didn't quite get delivered as promised, but it's only about a month since the release, and based on a number of previous iOS versions it takes some time for a new version to come into its own--as it happened with iOS 7 and 8, which stated our way worse than iOS 9 and ended up as being versions that many compare against as being great.

Your steps were.

1: open three or more apps
2: go to the home screen
3: open the app switcher
4: do not touch the screen
5: go back to the home screen (you didn't specifically say step 2 but it's required for your step of going to the home screen at the end.)

That's quite a list and pretty specific steps. Who sits there opening and closing the app switcher from home back to home, over and over? People who try any and all strange combinations of things to cause faults.

I seriously can't believe you and 2-3 others are still going on and on in every thread about the stutters. Give it a rest already. Complaining over and over during beta 4 on MR didn't solve the issue. Complaining over and over during beta 5 on MR didn't solve the issue. Now complaining over and over during release on MR isn't going to solve the issue.

Time to start living in reality and move on. Keep sending that feedback directly to Apple and stop worrying about it so much.

It takes time to fix software performance, no question about that. Except things are much more different than previous years. We've had a public beta program and people have submitted numerous reports via the feedback app about things like the laggy app switcher. What exactly is taking them so long to fix something like this? Surely for the richest company on earth, they can afford to hire more software engineers.

Steps One and two are not even necessary if you use the iPad for some time. And yes I do switch between apps quite often as I do a lot of stuff on my iPad and it occurs every time I simply tap on the home screen in the app switcher as well.

I already am sending bug reports to Apple but the situation is not improving. The Air 2 was a monstrous device last year and as hard as I tried it NEVER EVER lagged no matter what I did,This is completely unacceptable

I never complained of stutters on iOS 7 for my 4S and Air 1 at that time. Few reboot and app crashing problems aside, the animations were consistently smoother. The touch response was fast, accurate and predictable.

With iOS 8, I accepted that old (non 64 bit) devices up to iPhone 5/5c may not have the GPU capability to render those transition animations at 60fps.

But from iOS 9 onwards, same animations started to appear stuttery and touch response got worse. Touch accuracy has gone down considerably. All this on powerful devices like Air 2.

Apple Apologists can live in denial all they want but planned obsolescence is for real.

Who knows. And while they had a public beta it doesn't mean their approach to things has changed compared to recent previous years. Sure things should be better, and we always hope for that, but going by simple reality it's not something to be expected. That said, despite some visual performance issues that some experience, overall iOS 9 thus far has been quite a bit better in many respects than what iOS 8 and iOS 7 were in their early stages.

And many others have complained about animations and lag when it came to iOS 7 (especially compared to iOS 6) for a good half a year until 7.1 was released. All that was even more widely complained and known than anything going on with iOS 9. To somehow say now that that wasn't the case is to truly deny well known reality.

So, are you going to return the air 2 or not?
I've been thinking it might make more sense to have an Android tablet as my phone is Android. That way my purchases on the Play Store can transfer over. Something I didn't really give much thought into but am now realising could be a problem in the future...

And of course, the continued buggy state of iOS 9.1 isn't helping.

The one issue I've noticed fixed in my 6 at least was the problems I was having with the copy/paste function.

You laid out the steps in your original post to ask if someone could reproduce it in a specific way. Now you're saying steps 1+2 aren't needed? Keep twisting whatever to keep fitting your argument.

Also changes based off feedback do not happen over night. The majority of complaints started at 9.0, 9.0.1, 9.0.2 release, which wasn't all that long ago. 9.1 also was already planned to be mostly for emojis, iPad Pro/Apple Pencil supportand Apple TV 4 support long before 9.0 even released. Major performance fixes probably could not be found and put into place in time because of the deadline. I wouldn't have and didn't expect much to be done until 9.2 to be honest.
