So, to sum up. It both lags and is much smoother, all the bugs are fixed but all are still present, it uses less battery and also uses the same or even more as prior betas and 9.1, and it has fewer background processes except that it doesn't. Ok, got it.

Ok, it's there on every 5s and 6 running iOS 9.

Hmmm....I'm running a 5s on iOS 9.2 b3. Apparently that doesn't count. Let's not use terms like "every" here. I think the vast majority of users are not seeing any lag. Much of the laggy feature crowd here seems just like the noisy pixel crowd in cameras: "magnify your photo 1000x and, voila, NOISE!!!"

lagging like crazy still! Android Marshmallow is looking mighty fine for me right now!

Go for the Nexus 6P, getting it tomorrow.

im kidding love my 6s!
What sucks though it that control centre is smoother on the iPhone 5 and 5c because they don't use Metal. the 5s and up use Metal, which is what is causing the lag. It isn't optimized yet.

How do you know that it use metal api? That's it caused by the metal ipa

The improvements are not placebo. I just updated to 9.2 beta 4 after only using 9.1 up until now and it's definitely smoother all around the OS. It's not perfect, but you can tell they've been tweaking things.

It's definitely the smoothest my iPhone 6 has been on any version of iOS 9. Not as smooth as iOS 8, but I think I could live with this level of smoothness.

Wow, this is big! :)

Glad it's working out for you Jayson. Hopefully they will continue to tweak things.

Hold your phone upside down, with just your thumb and forefinger. Now stand on one leg only and with your other hand, swipe up spotlight and there's the lag! You see it, you see it?

Typical Apple, not testing both the left and right feet. It works fine for me when I stand on my right foot and hold the phone with my left hand, but not vice versa.

Must be planned obsolescence.

When you watch it, be sure to watch in 60 FPS and take these off:

..and you can tell those percentages after, what, 2 hours. Come on. Don't pluck stats out of the air.
Maybe you should read the other posts I have posted. I have a system that I have used since iOS 8.4 to check how much is going on in the background immediately after the install of a new iOS update. It has been very consistent and has done a fantastic job at gauging battery life once indexing and everything settles down.

Additionally, the post you quoted I specifically stated yes this is early but it looks promising. I have an entire chart of battery usage/standby. So don't be so quick to assume I'm making stuff up and pulling numbers out of the air.

My 6s plus continues to randomly reboot. So the "fix" Applecare and the Apple stores keep promising will be coming still isn't here. Wish they'd replace my phone since this is apparently not fixing it.

Honestly I'm about to sell it. This is getting ridiculous.

It sounds like hardware problem to me...

People were saying a perceived difference between Beta 3 and Beta 4 is a placebo, not between 9.2 Beta 4 and 9.1.

9.2 hasn't gotten much smoother since Beta 1 if it even has.

Summarizes most beta/release threads quite well. Makes asking people about what they see or paying much attention to what they observe fairly moot given that its different from person to person.

The smoking gun video?? Come on man. You make me laugh. Haha!

Here's what I'm seeing here, nothing that bothers me. It's running great here on my devices and that's good enough for me. Maybe for you, it isn't. All I can recommend to you is, keep reporting the bugs you see and get some much needed rest. :)

6s plus:

-Safari scrolling seems now pretty smooth. Best so far. Had some stutter before, especially when reading longer and then scrolled.
- 3d touch to activate trackpad seems to work now ok again (was difficult to activate in beta 3).

Do those devices include the 6s Plus? Not all the devices run the same and this video shows the lag and frame dropping pretty clearly. Maybe before you make a post like the one treating lag like a rare thing, you should think about more than just your own devices. I'm sorry if "smoking gun" is too much of an exaggeration when this is the most expensive iPhone that can be purchased and Apple has promised 1.6x improvements in performance. It's not excusable at all.
Is that video representing 9.1 or 9.2?
It is 9.1 in the video but on the 6s Plus even on the latest 9.2 beta, there is still a massively lower frame rate without Reduce Transparency on.

I don't think I'm going to do a beta 4 video, simply because I'm not noticing anything different compared to beta 3. That's no bad thing though, as beta 3 was a solid "release". All good here on Air 2 and iPhone 6.

Anyone know why Apple has had so many stutter issues with iOS 9? Even on the latest hardware?

I remember that especially prior to iOS 7, there were NEVER such issues in iOS. I have an ancient iPod touch in my car running iOS 5 and it's smooth as BUTTER. I haven't seen that sort of smoothness since iOS 6, it feels like everything iOS 7 and later has had performance problems.

It's as if Apple decided to stop caring about smoothness in the UI.

On my 6S+ it is very smooth during the transtistions with Reduced Transparency on or off, on 9.2B4, although the animation itself is quicker with it on, if only slightly. I wonder if its simply programmed to make the transition at a slower rate with it RT off vs with it on?

You see that's the problem. You are referencing and posting a video that has nothing to do with this thread (ie iOS 9.2 beta 4) May as well post an iOS 8.0 video of the landscape hang bug and discuss how it seems to do it 98% of the time. We are 4 beta revisions past iOS 9.1 now and that is what's being discussed here so a video of 9.1 brings no real value. Thanks though.

I said in the post you're replying to that it's essentially the same on 9.2 as 9.1. Why would I make another video of the same issue on the latest 9.2 beta when I already made a video of the same issue, only on 9.1? This is kind of a reach to make the lag complaining stop even though the issues aren't solved.

Does to me too but Apple won't do anything about it because the logs don't show an issue. They also keep quoting that the next iOS update will fix it. Friend with a standard 6s has been having the same issue and there is a thread on Reddit about it. Seems to be a small issue but one that needs to be addresses.

Without a doubt, there is a lot less running in the background with B4 vs. B3. Which should translate to much higher battery life. Background usage is 60% less on my 6s, and 75% less on my Air 2.

Can't wait to see what type of battery life I get throughout the day! Looking promising! Seems much better than 9.0.2 at this point. Yes its early, but I do keep track of this.

I think this is related to a bug I reported as well, with data being used from iCloud when it should not: it is a battery and data leakage. They asked for my iPhone's logs and it was a pretty serious bug since iOS 8.4.1, as I showed them the thread in their forums where everybody was complaining, but no one reported the bug. Many people are affected and they don't notice because the problem is random and difficult to notice, unless the data usage gets too high. The issue also takes place if you reset to a "new phone" because that seems to be handshake issue with the phone and iCloud services.

My 6s plus continues to randomly reboot. So the "fix" Applecare and the Apple stores keep promising will be coming still isn't here. Wish they'd replace my phone since this is apparently not fixing it.

Honestly I'm about to sell it. This is getting ridiculous.

Learn to report bugs and provide the logs right after the problem occurs and you rebooted. If it's a serious bug, report as SERIOUS BUG and they will ask for you to provide the correct log. Also, if the bug is widespread, include the thread in Apple's forum to give you credibility.
