I dont care too much for the operation system but just the upgrade in the Memory and the resolution of the screen. Im going to school for photography and would love to use my Ipad as photo presentation.

Lol what post are you replying to?

Most likely we won't see an update till April 2011.

iPod Touches are updated almost every September

Apple has stated that they WILL reduce the cost of the iPad over the coming years.;)

Im not a "computer specialist" but i believe... when pvmacguy said "Just get it now and enjoy it. Won't be until next yes theater we see a revision and even then 4.0 will be on the iPad this fall and it's sure to be good"

i thought he meant operating system... 4.0 Forgive me for my lack of knowledge. Ive been Using the Same PC ever since 7th grade... Being in a Senior now... Going to college for photography. I will need a better computer which the MBP that im getting is the fully upgraded 15' I7 w/ 8gb of ram. But i have little knowledge of apple.

Hmm... Ive thought about this ever since it came out.

First i convinced myself to wait for the 2nd Gen. Get a basic Mbp and a IMac quadcore I7... But then i realized how bad the screen is ( reflections ). So, Im planning on getting jsut a MBP with 24 or 27 display Later on and get a Mac Pro as well.

For the ipad, I have been convienced myself back into getting one from the first time i played with one at the local best buy. But with me wanting one, My girlfriend and several others are telling me i should just wait till 2nd generation and itd be so stupid if i purchase one now. If im going to get my Mbp this summer ( Waiting for the back to school promo )

Yeah, buy it now. Get the 64GB 3G version.

I thought about getting the 3g version... But then i realized... I have my phone with data. When my 2year upgrade be available, The new iphone will be out.

Having a 3g version makes no sense for me to have to pay 30$ extra when i have a smaller version of the Ipad in my pocket i can just check facebook, mac rumors, Nikon rumors and hotmail whenever. Where ever. Wifi will be enough for me

Well, you and your girlfriend might not marry for sure, but it is not stupid to stay with her now and spend all the money on (with?) her. You can still enjoy the time with her between now and when the two of your break up, if that happens. It doesn't mean you should dump her now and wait until you meet the one you will marry.

I'd say get it now. Since its just been released (the 3G model not even) there shouldn't be major updates for at least six months. I'm guessing the iPad will be on a annual update cycle similar to the iPhone and iPod touch.

One thing I wonder about is whether Apple will stick with the aluminum case in the future or go to plastic like they did when they updated the original iPhone to the iPhone 3G.

That makes no sense. Ive been with her for almost 2 years now.

Also.. I wanted to talk about the Ipad. Not some random person telling me to break up with my girlfriend to me who is REALLY close to me.

Not some stupid 1 month high school fling.

I thought I told you NOT to break up with your girlfriend. I said it at least twice.

READ.

"it is not stupid to stay with her"

"It doesn't mean you should dump her"

The iPad will get its first update in the form of the OS 4 software update in the fall, which is like 6 months from now. I wouldn't expect a hardware update for at least a year.

If you want it now, buy it now. If you want something but would rather wait for the next version, you could spend your entire life not buying anything...

Im sorry antiprotest. I mis read your orginal post. But... I still dont understand how my girlfriend plays a part on me getting it or not. Just some people i know have said just to wait till 2nd generation since this is so new... 2nd generation will be so much better. why waste it now? Thats my point

Here in Ireland, most of us are more interested in when we might get a first gen. Seems some countries are moving a generation ahead are they?

Wow! Equating relationship with person to "relationship" with a product? Not sure that extended metaphor is working so well. But maybe that's just me.

Personally, I'm getting a new MBP on a month so I'm going to hold off on
getting an ipad until at least rev 2. I'm not too worried about it cause it's not a need at all for me, simply a want.

Bottom Line: The second generation of ANY product is better than the first generation. But, then so is the third generation of that product. You will have to wait 12 months before the next iPad comes out and it will most likely have the below features, and it's most likely already in prototype build at Apple...they are 2-4 years ahead of consumers.

New Features:
Front and Back Camera
Video Conferencing
Faster Processor
Larger HD
Better Battery Life

And the 3rd generation will be better then the 2nd generation. Somehow you have to choose, do you want one now...do you want to wait? If you are always waiting for something better to come along will you ever get one.

If you have the money get one now and enjoy it, if you don't wait until you can afford one and at that point decide if you should hold out for the 2nd generation or not. (if less then six months before the next iPad comes out I would wait)

iPad - Spring (April/May)
iPhone - Summer (June/July)
iPod - Fall (September)

iMacs - 2x per year, usually Spring and Fall
MacBook Pro - 2x per year
Mac Pro - 1x per year
MacBook (Plastic) - 2x per year

Mac mini - Wildcard
Apple TV - Wildcard (so far never, software updates come in the Fall)

He just means that passing on the 1st gen specifically to wait for the 2nd gen is bad reasoning. By that logic, you should pass on every iPad, always anticipating its replacement and you should never buy a computer because it will eventually be obsolete.

If you need or want an iPad today, buy the one that will suit your needs or wants. If you do not, then buy one later that suits the needs and wants you have at that time.

+1

Hit it on the head. You can talk yourself out of buying any tech since there will always be something better/faster/cheaper "right around the corner."
