It's coming!
got on pre-order site as soon as the opened here in Australia at 11pm 16th October (5am USA time) Had trouble putting order in on site overloaded with traffic but managed to finalise order by 11:36pm. Yesterday, Friday 23rd October received advice that it was ready for shipping and that vI would receive it by Tuesday27th October. Then later on received more advice at 6:51pm that TNT Express in Sydney had processed for shipping. So only 508km further to travel. Confident that it will arrive here on the NSW/VIC border by Tuesday.
On another note about colours. I ordered the Sky Blue I think it is subtle and it should blend in well with the Brydge Keyboard in silver that I have waiting to attach to it. Only reason I have silver is because no blue available yet and a great discount on the silver. I don't think the different colour will make a lot of difference as the only part of the iPad that you will see is the rim around the edge. A Backshall covers the rest.

No I have to return, and wait for a new one. Very disappointed.

Mine just showed up at 8 pm! I didn’t think it was coming. Setting up Touch ID failed and now it’s updating to iOS 14.1 (it didn’t give me a choice) so I’m not sure what it shipped with. I hope setting up Touch ID will actually work properly after the update...

That’s too bad. I’d be disappointed too. Is there an Apple Store near you? I’m sure they’d give you a new one on the spot.

None in MA. Have to send it in. They’ll look at it and then send a new one.

Not happy about it.

Got mine yesterday (spacegrey, 64 GB) - in short a brilliant iPad:
- love the 11 inch form factor, shame about the bezels, but no deal breaker
- not bend ✊
- acceptable screen and loud, clear speakers (stereo arrangement is king!). Movies are a joy to watch
- amazingly responsive and opens up apps very quickly
- Apple Pencil 2 works flawlessly. Compared to iPad Pros you can most certainly feel the increased lag as expected
- Used it as my main work iPad for a full
day (Friday) and it is highly productive (outlook, sharepoint, onedrive, word, excel, onenote, teams, videos calls, pdf expert etc) even more so with the Magic Keyboard
- battery life is certainly "all day", with no compromises there
- Screen size is just large enough to do split screen between Notes and PDF Expert for studying. Also for reading A4 size trade magazines (Science etc.)
- Brilliant ebook reader with crisp, eye friendly rendering of PDFs, epubs etc.

Still - it goes back to Apple next week, as I've decided to upgrade to the 11 inch iPad Pro ?

Interesting. Did you try the Pencil with the Pro? What’s the issue with the bezels?

Yes - I have extensive usage experience from the Apple Pencil 2 on iPad Pro 2018 12.9. The difference in lag is readily apparent.
The bezels are quite a bit larger than the iPad Pro series, giving the iPad Air a distinctive retro or "last
gen." look

Above aside, if I hadn't taken a detour around the 2018 iPad Pro series, I'd be over the moon regarding the new iPad Air - it really is a stellar piece of kit at a somewhat reasonable price.

I’ve only used an Apple Pencil 1 on a 6th gen iPad, so I suspect it would still be an improvement given its laminated screen.

As far as the bezel, yes it would be hard for me to unsee this...even though I know I’ll never be using an iPad Pro 11 alongside an Air.

It’s about a $130 more for the Pro in my situation/country. More RAM, 128gb vs 64 gb, promotion and thinner bezels. Decisions.

I think Apple’s strategy is to push the bar higher on what people are willing to pay. They’ve done the same thing with the new iPhones as iPads, significantly increasing the midrange specs along with a significant increase in price.

I think that the best better tablet than the iPad 8th gen to buy now is the 11” Pro if one needs more than 64GB. And I think the best better phone is the 12 Pro.

My guess is that the Pro models in both iPad and iPhone will see a noticeable increase next year. I hope I’m wrong.

I had to set up Touch ID twice, it requires scanning the entire finger print. Once that is done, it’s fantastic.

@mr_jomo Agreed. There is some lag with the pencil, but I knew that going in. I am keeping mine.

@MM07 Sorry to hear. Hope you get that swapped ASAP.

Overall, I enjoy the Air. Looking forward to testing.

Appreciate it very much. I just took it to FedEx this morning. Hopefully they’ll get it Monday or Tuesday.

Because some people are really ungrateful of their options and amenities. We saw Tesla ending their "sending back your Tesla after 7-14 days" because many people were taking advantage of it. Same people buy macbooks to try them and send them back after some days to get an other similar model. Go figure. In my opinion, ungrateful, can't find other word. But since companies allow this.

Maybe this is well known to everyone but me (sorry!) but what does Apple do with all the iPads they get back from all the "tourists" after one week ? Sell them as refurbed? Sell them as new? I've always wondered this.
