I honestly don't know what to say. Bought the Air 3 although I wanted to have the 10,5" Pro 2017, only to avoid the bright spot issue. The iFixit teardown of the Air 3 convinced me, that Apple took some measures to fix this issue. Now I read this.

Apple, are your customers a joke to you? Why is nobody officially addressing this issue? I was about to buy AppleCare+ a few hours ago, but don't know what to do now.

I once trusted this company, but I just feel betrayed right now.
I knew this was going to happen!
My iPad Air 3 also developed a bright spot above the home button 1-2 months ago.
Now I am a proud member of the bright spot club too.

Trying to get this device replaced in the upcoming weeks, but I think I shouldn't get my hopes up..

Yeh the fact they’ve just ignored this means I’m buying android units as we speak , tv , network etc . The tablet is a central component for me and 3 years with no change or response from apple . 2 year guarantee and not long after that it’s a brick . Too expensive for that . And it makes me not trust their build quality across the board , they clearly have seen the problem as reported here and elsewhere, I wonder what other problems they have seen and ignored. Large family of which I buy all the tech , so that’s 5 tablets , phones , and about 15 other devices all will be android soon enough as they are updated , are sold , or get bricked like my iPads

Well, my Air 3 developed this issue mid 2020, but due to COVID I didn't had the opportunity to go into the store. Now with only a month or two remaining on my AC I went and they agreed to replace it (probably I will receive a refurbished) the receipt said "agree to replace by same model with equal reliability than a new one". We will see, I just hope the new one is not worst since my white spot was kind of big but not super noticeable. I just send it in since my fear was that it would get worse just after the AC expires.

What would be great is that due the Air 3 not being that common now, I end up getting a different model back, even if they offer some kind of deal where I pay the difference for an updarade, but the service guy said that is VERY VERY rare and in his experience it might be just a different color (as long as I approve it)...I guess he is right, since this is sadly a very common issue they prep with some refurbished stock just to keep their swaps until there are no more warranty covered ones out there..

In this cases my new device will have only the remaining month or two of apple care? or they will provide some kind of extension? 90 days maybe? I ask since I read people saying they are on their 2nd, 3rd,+ replacment

For me it was 90 days but you meed to subtract the remaining days of guarantee. My replacement developed again a white spot I am very unhappy because of that.

Less than a here ? the problem is that you already saw it. So you see a new development much earlier than if you don’t know that such a thing even exist. Or you use your ipad more for gaming, watching videos and photos. That would be fine too.

Not sure if I got you, but is OK. yeah actually I use it mainly for that and noticed only on few occasions not super anoying but I claimed the warranty just because that's why I paid AC. If at the end I get the same at least the battery will be new..

I went to my local Apple Store recently and showed them the bright spot. They immediately noticed it and told me that they felt sorry but can't offer me a free replacement. They acknowledged how clean my device was and that it can't be my fault that the device developed a bright spot.

Yeah I feel sorry too. Because I was dumb enough to believe that Apple would've fixed the issue, that was known from the 10,5" iPad Pro 2017. How gullible..

I think the consequence for me will be to leave the "Apple ecosystem" for good. I only owned a MacBook Air and my iPad Air anyway. Gonna sell them and turn back to PC + Android (and no tablet).

Os it out of warranty?
I guess its only going to be solved by Apple if people take action the same way they did with battery gate or whatever it was called.
Truth be told, if not for their app selection and their quality, it would be less of a problem to switch platforms, but theres nothing like that in Android.
My iPP 10.5 also has the same issue, still under warranty. Depending on how Apple/its authorised service provider solves it, I will consider whether to get higher end iPP this year and Mac Mini or Air 14 next year or not.
If not, then its base regular iPad and Windows machine. Reliability of products and services and reponsibilty of company that offers tose are very important to me.
So far Apple has shown that social virtue signaling is higher on their priority list, than actual aknowledgement of failed designs and poor customer service that stems from Apples denial of reality/lack of aknowledgement. Because that would hurt their stock value.

That should be the norm, not an exception.
My 10.5 Pro had the same white spot issue, noticed only during last month of warranty, replaced within a week(only Apple dealers here, no Apple stores) with new/Apple refurb and on sale it went the next day without unwrapping it.

I didn't have AppleCare, but they made an exception and actually replaced it for free. Thanks for this advice. I'm friends with Apple again, lol.
Nice but prob is that chances are very high that you will get it again on your new device.

I had the white spots show on my iPad Air, had it replaced twice from Apple and still continued to have it. I finally was able to swap it out to an 11” iPad Pro after that. But before that, it was extremely frustrating to continue to have that with the replacements.

I had a 10.5 Pro that started developing the white spot right after warranty. Sold it to someone that didn’t mind it. Bought Air 3 hoping it wasn’t as big of an issue with those. Noticed white spot showing up after 8 months. Just sent it in for Apple warranty repair. They’re shipping it back saying there’s nothing wrong with it.

Any news? Did you accept it?

my ipad air 3 is also showing the brightish line or spot in the location of the 3 white dots when you are on the main screen. It looks that those white dots are prone to screen burn as I've search google images and it's on the same spot

I went to the genius bar in-person today and all they said was that if I wanted to fix this issue, that I'd have to pay $400 for a replacement because I dont have Apple Care+ and because its out of the 1 year warranty period from date of purchase. It was determined that I was not at fault for the white spot, so I shouldn't have to pay $400.

Has anyone successfully gotten a replacement without having to pay and without having Apple Care? If so, how?

You might have to escalate it to a higher up at the store or online. Some people had success replacing their Pro 10.5 which had a bright spot after warranty.

My Air 3 also had the problem. The sad fact about this issue is that Apple must have known about it as the same problem existed in Ipad Pro 10.5. Still they never bothered to fix it at least for the early Ipad Air 3 models.

Does anyone know if this white spot issue is also prevalent on the 2018+ iPad Pros? Or what about the current iPad 4 and the new 11" Pro?

My 10.5 Pro has had a constellation of white spots for years now. It's one reason I have been seriously considering an upgrade. But I didn't realize the issue affected more than the 10.5 Pros until I read this thread. And now I'm wondering if this issues affects all their iPads.

My Air 3 is still free from this issue after over 1.5 years. But I must admit I use it very rarely (it has only 35 charge cycles so that should give some impression how little it is used) and even then it is very light use so it does not get warm. What ever causes that reason, my wild guess - it is not time but maybe temperature combined with maybe battery shape changes...
