I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. Yes I'm an Apple loyalist and I know I'm gonna get knocked for this but, that Vaio P is just straight sexy. I'm two seconds from getting one, but I am still wondering what the ipad is going to be like hands on. Heeeeelp ! Anyone, suggestions please, I'm literally a day away from just going and picking up the Vaio but don't wanna kick myself when the ipad is released. Someone please give some valid pros / cons as to why I should or shouldn't get either.
You simply need to go to the store and try one. They are brutally slow.

It's ironic that if you actually wanted to watch the Oscars on the iPad, you couldn't. You'd just get a blue lego block.

I understand the point you're trying to make, but I don't see how it's ironic.

It would be ironic if it were impossible to view the iPad commercial on the iPad. Not being able to watch a television show in which the commercial was placed is not ironic.

I suppose we could drag up that whole Alannis Morrisette thing again, but I'll refrain. :D
The iPad H8T Brigade aren't fans of all that there book learnin'...

;)

I would think the average person who know nothing about the iPad and was intrigued by the ad would go to the Apple web site, where the iPad is the splash screen. The Ad also doesn't say where to buy the iPad on April 3. Do you think that will confuse buyers too? I kinda think if someone is so dumb not to do even the minimum of research on the iPad they probably won't be able to figure out where to buy it either so they are safe from making a buying mistake.

I don't know. You'd be surprised. Most people know Apple stores. Do you think Apple is gonna tell people on April 3rd that a different one is coming at the end of April or are they gonna sell people the Wifi one? That's my question :)

Ever notice that, when they show people using an iPad, they are always sitting in some sort of uncomfortable legs crossed position? I'm getting one (possibly two) of these but I'm not sure how comfortable couch-web surfing will be :(

Cheers.

WiFi only my friend. You wont be on a plane, train, airport or anywhere else where there isn't FREE internet access. Great concept though........no, not your idea of surfing everywhere. I'm talking about Jobs ability to keep you spending money, or rather, keep his and affiliates hands in your pocket.

Showing up here for the first time in an attempt to counter the iPad commercial. Why don't you get a real job?

Silly question. Aapl has announced the iPad intro timetable with orders for both starting on the 12th. Without question buyers will be clearly told that one presently available does not have 3G, and that 3G model will be available in a month.

So funny ! At the 22" mark, the iPaq magically doesn't move even though the guy takes his hands off of it to start typing ! Great job Apple with the video to make people believe this will be a convenient device to use !

LOL

And I'm just absolutely positive you have tons of hands-on experience with the iPad, right? No?? My mistake. It must be MaxiPads that you have hands on experience with.

Did you notice that not only were most of them in what looked to be uncomfortable positions the iPad was not actually in the original shot?
There is one part where it is clear that the pad is inserted because it moves effortlessly and mechanically across the person.

The whole ad was annoying and did not make me want one. :(

No one confuses it with a large iPhone.
The iPhone at least has a camera.

It is confused with a bigger version of the Touch and this ad did nothing to change that view.

Did I miss some extended version?
Was there something shown in there that wasn't in the keynote?

Another paid mudslinger who only pops up here to knock it when aapl comes out with a new product.

Finally, I think Apple's product strategy might actually be
Desktop (doubles as a TV, especially if their all you can watch, subscription TV thing goes through) + iPad + iPhone.

I think the Macbook will be eliminated, leaving the Macbook Pro for people who need to do the above, but in general most people will go with the Desktop+iPad+iPhone combo...

Can't agree more!

Well, I was in quite an odd position on my couch when the add came on. I wanted one 30 seconds later?

SJ does look strange in the Tie. Looks happy though. :apple:

The iPad needs to become multiuser.

After considering some use case scenarios for the iPad over the last few weeks, i've decided to wait on version 2.

The reason is because of the camera, but it's not just the physical lack of a camera, rather what i think it'll be used for when it does show up.

I believe they didn't include the camera because iChat/Skype wasn't enough for them to include it. It didn't measure up to Apple's 'awesome' requirements compared with the cost.

I refer to the rumour that the camera would be used to identify the user sitting in front of the iPad.

Coming back to those use case scenarios, whilst i'd be happy to leave the iPad sitting on the coffee table for anyone to pick up and browse the web, i'd be very unhappy to leave open access to my email accounts, my address book and my work calendar.

Unless there's a way to lock access to personal data without locking the device completely, we haven't moved on from the iPod touch or iPhone. ie. Highly personal devices that live in your pocket.

I therefore expect that by version 2.0 we'll have facial recognition, that causes mail/addressbook/calendar/safari to flip to the personal settings of whoever is sitting in front of it. If it doesn't recognise the person, they can still have limited access.

Just this once

Showing up here for the first time in an attempt to counter the iPad commercial. Why don't you get a real job?

I'm sure you're here ALL THE TIME, and post just as much. This must be your real job.

So sensitive....

I seriously doubt it. Probably way too easy to fool with a simple photo. Much easier/more secure to have a PIN, or some variant (and probably some circumstances where you want someone you trust to access iPad for you).

Honestly, the average consumer only saw that commercial, and it just said, iPad, April 3rd. No mention of reserves, pre-orders, etc. Just imagine someone you know who knows nothing about computers. Saw the ad. Goes to the store. Says I want an iPad. Will Apple inform them a different one is coming in a month? That is my question.

The average consumer is not going to reserve/pre-order it. They are just going to go to the Apple Store some point between April 3rd and when the 3G version launches.

I was almost blown away when I saw the iPad debut. THEN, I came to my senses. Why in the name of everything decent and honest would apple choose not to include a USB port of this device? How about Greed. You see if they included a USB port, one could use their existing data card and services to get internet access. In the book of Jobs, its necessary to dig deep into our pockets, hence, you will have to pay for what you already have again. This is deliberate my thinking friends. Oh sure, they'll come out with another model that includes the port, however, it will be hardware rev number three.

Let me count: I purchased 3 macBook Pros, Two MacPros, Three iPhones, and now I have to tithe to Steve in iPad fashion. I DON'T THINK SO.

This omission was enough for me to realize to pass on this glitter. If Steve had answered yes to tethering, I would have gone for it.

What a good shepherd Jobs is.......he looks out for his sheep in a ??????? way.

Paid bashers showing up for the first time to try to slime the iPad. This demonstrates just how worried the "competition" really is.

I wonder if Jobs has some kinda turtle neck under that shirt.

I just did a google image search and can't find a picture of jobs in a turtleneck. All I see are black tshirts. Anyone have a pic of him in a turtleneck? Why does everyone keep saying all he wears are turtlenecks?

The Truth Hurts

Not a basher at all. I actually enjoy, use and appreciate Apple Tech. There are those, who seemingly intelligent and full of "matter of fact" statements blindly drink from the grail of Jobs. The good news is..... there's help and an app for that.

;)

I’m glad to see they left out the “magical” references in this commercial. They could have used that line to describe the 1st iPhone but now it sounds stupid.

It's great with more Danish music in Apple commercials ;)

First "Around the Bend" with The Asteroids Galaxy Tour and now "There Goes My Love" with The Blue Van.

Steve Jobs got excellent music taste hehe.
