I need to do the same. the checkout process was super buggy and I was just trying to get my order in.
I believe once you have the device in hand you can get Apple care right from the device. Correct me if I am wrong..
Yea you can add it later. The iPad is the only Apple device I would get applecare on. Dropped my iphone while sitting at the table onto my 2020 ipad pro and the phone made a deep indent to the ipad's glass even though it was dropped maybe 8 inches above the ipad. And that "repair" (apple only does replacements for anything that goes wrong to these ipads) cost $600...on a half year old ipad.

Was the $600 with or without AppleCare coverage?

I pre-ordered the space gray, 12.9", 2TB version from Best Buy a couple of days ago. It's saying that it should ship on 5/24.

How can I order the same configuration (1TB) at 5:50 am Pacific on 4/30 then have to wait to pre-order from BB until Monday yet Apple says June 9 -23 and BB says 5/21?

The question I have is the 21st the official release date? For all the products that I can remember no shipments arrived before the official date, other than a few exceptions where the carrier screwed up.

I ordered the same gray 12.9 2 TB within minutes of order opening on the Apple store and got a June 9-23 delivery date which has not changed. I don't see best buy delivering before then. Apple is conservative in their estimates, best buy may be more aggressive. But with the chip shortages these are not normal times ...

While I am fairly confident the release date will be the 21st, Apple has never said to my knowledge a specific release date, only the second half of May. This differs from the launch of other products announced in the April event which had specific release dates (with the exception of the iMac). In short, who knows, but most likely the 21st.

You mean files app? That’s not what I’m trying to do. In macOS I can move a Final Cut library to an external drive and still open it in Final Cut without having to copy said library back to the internal storage of my Mac mini. That’s what I’m trying to find out on the iPad, if I can preform the same function.
i see. my bad. I hope you can solve the problem :)

I bought bought a 12.9 and a 2gen pencil both engraved. The pencil should get here in 2days. The pencil is coming from China so I guess engraved items are sent from China. The iPad has a timeline of may24-jun1. I hope I get it at the 24th.

Delivery date is May 21-28, maybe because of the engraving? I ordered within the first five minutes, as soon as I could get my cart to hold it.

Yeah, most likely it was the engraving. My order status still hasn’t changed… I gotta feeling by Friday, everyone with a May 21 date… will see some progress.

Hello team.
Post up your delivery dates and what model you purchased so we can track when orders start slipping.

12.9, space gray, 128gb, w/ cellular

May 21-28
Great idea! It would also be interesting to know if "the order" was with Apple, or a third party, say like Amazon/BestBuy/Cellular Provider. Or do they all really come directly from Tim Apple/overseas in the name of the third party?

Wow, that’s amazing that you’re seeing the “preparing to ship” notice already, and congratulation! I’m surprised that there would be any action 11 days before official release day. I wouldn't have expected anyone to see shipment anytime before the 14th or so, allowing a week to get to your location from China.

My delivery window hasn’t changed from June 4-10, despite ordering only about 1/2 hour after the earliest possible time. When I placed the order, it said “ships in 3-4 weeks”, or May 21-28, but there is no shipping window shown anymore, only a delivery window.

I hope that mine doesn’t slip any further, and either stays within the window, or arrives nearer to the earlier end of the window.

I ordered directly from Apple btw. 12.9”, 500 GB, Space Grey, no engraving.

My 12.9 iPad Pro just moved to "Preparing to Ship" and my card was charged!
I am guessing that decision to engrave is the key. The merry elves of Apple in Shenzen are charging your card now because your device is being engraved. They will only do that if the product is paid for. After that is completed, let's see if the ship date advances.
