Can you imagine what this thread would look like to someone who is 'normal'? 100 pages of discussion by grown adults about the release of a technology product. It really does make us look a bit sad. Despite that I've got a 64gb on the way, I'm still eager to find out the prices for the 3G...plus I'm ticked off about the Macbook updates which were shockingly drab.

Oh, how times have changed. Before you decided that you couldn't wait any longer and ordered an imported iPad, weren't you here chomping at the bit and acting "a bit sad" like the rest of us? ;)
So who is "saddest"? Us, or the person who paid extra because they couldn't wait another couple of weeks? I think what you did is fine by the way, I'm just applying your own logic to the situation.

Someone already said, and was right in saying, my comment is self-depricating. I'm still going to be at the Apple Store on launch day to pick up my accessories (which is perhaps sadder than queueing for the device itself :p). Of course I'm annoyed that Apple still haven't given even a release date, let alone put up preorders.. The only reason I imported was because I got a great deal I couldn't resist. Most likely my import will be considerably cheaper than the iPad in the UK stores, even if I do get stung for VAT. :)

Yeah I know, that's why I was saying that I don't disagree with the choice that you made ;)
apologies if I didn't pick up on the tone of your post, it's been a long day of reading webpages on an iPhone screen (that was directed at you, Apple!)

The exchange rate is a lot worse than it was back in June when the MacBook Pros were last updated.

£1.65 vs today's £1.54 which accounts for £60 of the increase.

LOL I know. I've been checking the rate every day for months in preparation for an upcoming trip over there.

That was the point I was making and the point I've made several times in this thread. At least it gives us a better idea of what kind of exchange rate to expect now for the iPads.

Sales Tax in New York??

Guys I have a friend going to NY in about a week, if he buys a 64GB for me at the $699 price, is that what he pays? Or does he have to add some TAX or VAT or anything?

Thanks,

Screw it. I think I might just go with BundleBox. £408 for a 16gb. I can't imagine it being less than £399 on launch, and if so, I'll put it down to experience. Does anyone know if when you use 'Buy For Me' your charged in $ or £'s?

Anyone care to jump into the void with me!?

New York has a 4% state sales tax

Add to the VAT when he comes to the UK - and I think import duty.

I am this ] [ close to joining you but I have been waiting this long so far that I will just wait now.

Lol has anyone ever accidently forgot the uk part of the url and thought oooooh the ipad is up? I know if that happened to me id feel pissed after lol.

Happened to me once, I saw "from 499" and swore loudly, then noticed the dollar sign.

Next time I load up the UK store I wouldn't be surprised to see the same thing and look for the dollar sign in vein.

Assuming that it is in his case on the way home and he forgets, then it will cost around:
$699 + state tax = $728
Based on todays rate $728 = £490

sound right?

If so, then I think it is obviously the way to go...

'Store up n down' jokes were funny when I 'first' did them in the context with the abundance of posts waiting for some change of some description.

Now however they are mere copies of a well that has clearly run dry especially as we have all been on the store a million gazillion times in the last two + hours of F5 or Apple+R refreshes.

I'm glad I have imported an iPad now. If I later decide to get the 64GB 3G model, I already have relations to pawn the Wifi version off onto. :)

Just pre-ordered the Quirky Case = http://www.quirky.com/products/30-Cloak
Says it ships in 6-8 weeks. So plenty of time for the EU iPad release ;)

I was thinking about it, but 5-7 days to ship from apple then probably another week to reach the UK. If its going to take 2 weeks to get here, we may as well just wait now hadn't we?

True.. but damn my need to know that I actually have something bought and on the way to me!

I really feel for you guys. This wait is going on and on and on. We get the new MBPs on the same day as the USA, but the UK has really been boned on the iPad.

I have mine here, brought in by a friend visiting from the states. It's worth the wait. A lovely device.

Condolences to those of you waiting.

I've tired of waiting and bought one from eBay for £435 (16GB). Should be here by the weekend. :D

I know I'll be paying slightly over the odds (especially if I get a customs bill) but I think it should be worth it.
