Via @sambrown on twitter, Called the UK Apple Store: “For the magical and revolutionary new iPad and accessories, Press 2.” http://mb.bz/1m – Rep said not until May.

Has anyone else phoned them?

9 times out of 10, Apple employees in sales and tech don't know any more than we do about release dates of future products and they are just going on the same rumours that we do. Its the only way Apple can keep things secret until they choose to release info.

I really can't see the UK price for the 64GB being more than £600. Just compare prices on the Apple store - US vs UK. Must items coming into the UK are subject to vat and duty, which combined is usually about 22% on there abouts - I used to buy a lot of Guitars from the US. :D

Check out the new MBPs for example. The UK price for my wifes 17" MBP is 22% more than the US model, plus about £30. iPods are similar, as is most of the product line. I don't see why the iPad won't follow the same logic too. So that's put the 64GB model at £599, assuming a crap exchange rate of 1.5.

This is all that's holding me off importing. At £650 for a 64GB model, plus 22% taxes you are looking at almost £200 more than the very likely UK price. I just can't justify that expense to get it two weeks early. Ironically, for the first time in ages, I could afford to splurge, but I'm keeping my head.

yea i mentioned that about 5 pages back when it was going mad lol....I rang and they hadn't a clue!

Yeah its hard to not repost something, you can't always see it.

This waiting sucks... Did they announce the pre-order on a Tuesday in America?

No, it was Friday March 5th and pre-orders started a week later on the 12th.

I think I will just wait until next month. Well after pay day on 30th and Just enjoy the money I have rather than spend wisely for the next few weeks :)
"Coming late April" they could mean pre-order coming on Friday 30th April and release in May, you never know. (that would suck)

Right girls and boys, time to leave the office where I have done very little today other than be on here and on the Apple store.

Its been emotional!

Cya Friday for the pre order announcement and opening! (That’s my guess any way!)

What gets me is that I can't understand why Apple can't just announce what the prices will be.

They can announce availability dates later, or coming soon, but the UK (and EU) prices must be locked in by now, surely.

What a crazy way to launch a product.

They might just be waiting out the exchange rate until the last minute, or it could be supply related given how popular its been in the US?

Who knows, at this rate I wouldn't be surprised if Apple launched it without a price and said "you can pay later when we know how much it is"

I can't see the exchange rate being an issue as the £-$ rate has been very stable at about 1.52 for about 2 months now.

As for the (higher than expected?) popularity of it in the US, I really can't see that affecting the price, just the availability. Unless, of course, Apple want to try and screw every last £ out of the UK market by increasing the price at the last minute as a response to supply/demand being low/high. But that would be just taking the mick, and P off a lot of customers who are already expecting unbelievable UK prices.

The commercial rate fell as low as 1.52 at the end of Feb. Prior to that it was quite a bit higher (1.62 plus in late Jan).

The rate has been pretty poor since then and has dropped as low as 1.48.

It started to steadily creep up to it's current 1.53 in late March so it's not really been stable. Today is the highest it's been in a couple of weeks.

The tourist rate has been as low as 1.42 I think. :(

If you shop around on ebay you can get a better deal than that, I got one for £649, shipped from the uk, no extra postage to pay, I'm typing on it right now.... Granted there's lots of chancers trying to rip people off but there are some ok deals out there.

Small fluctuations probably make a big difference for a company like Apple, but its all just speculation. They could also be waiting to confirm what numbers of iPads are available and in what locations etc, or could be a combination of the above. Who knows. The positive thing is that they said last week its still on-track for a late April launch, but I can see why people are starting to get frustrated following the US launch.

The thing is that the US have shipment issues because every man and his dog is ordering them to ebay and ship to the UK and other international countries... Can't apple see this... why are all the individuals doing this shipping rather than Apple getting on with it!

Profiteering. The only way to combat it would be to have enough supply for demand, and release internationally at the same time. :)

or for £650 inc vat from dvdworldusa, thats only £50 than the guesstimated price might be.

They are doing it for 700 now on eBay, and the wording of the auction says they will mark it with value of 500 $ which suggests it's shipping from the USA. Ironically, 30 mins after saying I'd not buy I bought a Uk eBay item lol.

I am thinking that the fact apple says they will release " all models" late April in the uk is the real issue here

so either there is an issue with the 3g model itself ( kind of makes sense as the USA have no 3g date either)

or there is a delay in apple setting up data plans with partners, possibly in all countries

I am willing to bet that they could release the wifi version here now. Just they said they would release both together.

Thoughts?
