Im still of the opinion that apple may take a small hit, just so they can advertise the price as unde £400

Hopefully theyll start the base model at £389 or £399 something that looks attractive for the casual teche, rather than us people hunched over our laptops in the dark.

But i hope/think that they may do this

I agree, the basic 16GB needs to be under £400 (£399 being my guess) other wise its really not that unbelievable

I imported and I'm paying duty.

All in all including vat, customs and parcelforce levy, costing me 93 quid.

I'm picking it up this afternoon.

I ll scan the duty receipt and put it on later.

Bah Cant cope with waiting anymore

Argh ive given in...my fanboy brain cant take it anymore!!!

Bought a 32GB from SimplyElectronics which has just been delivered to home

On way to get it in a few hours!

maybe my unsightly drooling will finally stop when I get my hands on it!!!

In a moment of weakness (stupidity?!) I just ordered a 16GB model off the US Apple website to be delivered to Bundlebox. Phoned the CC people who said the transaction went through - £344. Haven't had an email confirmation yet though - does this normally take time!?

Having said that, I think the key prices are the 3G ones. Correct me if I'm wrong but we in the UK don't seem to have as widely available Wi-Fi as in the states, even in cities the coverage isn't great. So a well priced 16BG 3G could simulate a lot more sales, just on the basis of Wi-Fi coverage not being great out side the home so the 3G is needed.

Out of interest how many of us will be getting the 3G over the Wi-Fi? I for one will be getting a 3G

Usually I would have caved in by now but that fact that I am only interested in a 3G model makes me still looking forward to it being released, whenever that happens. Aslong as it arrived before May 17 for my birthday I can wait.

I'm hoping I can get the Wifi-only model, buy the Mifi and get it unlocked and use my O2 iPhone sim card in the Mifi when I need access to 3G on iPad. I'll only rarely need to do it.

And the 64GB under £500, as the exchange rate goes anyhow

I really can't see that somehow. I think the best we can expect is the US price/1.5 (exchange rate) + 17.5% (VAT), as the listed US prices are all pre-tax prices.

That would make the 64Gb £547, rounded up to £549, and that is my guess for the 64Gb

The 32Gb (using this formula) would be £469, and the 16Gb would be £399.

If Apple charge any less than this for them, I think we have a good (unbelievable?) price. Any more (significantly) and Apple are abusing the market.

Can anyone explain Myfi to me? i havent had much luck researching it and dont fully understand how it works or how i wud go about getting it?

I didnt think the sims were changable in the iPad? plus arnt they different to normal phone simes?

You get it from 3, either visit their shop or their website. It's a little router basically. It connects to 3G, then shares the connection via ordinary Wifi. So your laptop, iPad and anything else that uses Wifi can get online at the same time using the Mifi device. There are loads of different deals that 3 offer.

That's what I know for definite. Now the following is stuff I still need to find out. Apparently you can get the Mifi unlocked (3 will even do it for a fee). This is true, but I want to use my O2 sim card from my iPhone in the Mifi. I've still to get confirmation that this would actually work.

The iPad uses a micro SIM, the blackberry doesn't. You won't be able to swap the SIM in.

I'm not very exchnage rate savvy, but the Currency converter Dashboard widget (last updated 14/04/2010 10:04) says that $699 is £453. The VAT on that is £25, so the 64GB should cost approximately £478.

I'm hoping that Apple will be able to keep the 64GB under £500, I'm still hopeful

Im hoping to get the 32GB 3G for around £500, ill not be paying more than that, so i hope thats what i can get

Mifi is basically a router, it puts out a wifi signal, it gets its internet from mobile phone networks,

So if you get a sim card, with internet acccess, (paygo, or monthly tarrif) you can then put it in the Mifi, then the mifi router gets internet from the phone network, and puts out a wifi signal that you can connect to

Wikipedia has a good article on it

Pretty straightforward. Nip into local three store and buy a MiFi. Its available on PAYG and Contract.

Its a small wireless router that has a 3 Sim in it. It lets up to 5 people share the wireless signal. So basically it takes a 3G (mobile phone) signal and converts it into a Wireless signal, like your wireless router. Thats about it. Really is that simple. You can also get them unlocked for another mobile provider, if you prefer them over 3 or if you have no signal in your area.

Ugh, the multiplier has increased :(

The new MacBooks are 10-15% more expensive compared the US (with VAT included) so expect $+10%+VAT

All of us in the UK are subject to Apple tax, its apples way of saying, "thanks for being in the UK" all they do is... release a product, get it over here, work out the price. then go, Hmmmm lets add 8% onto the price

Becuase we can
