You get it from 3, either visit their shop or their website. It's a little router basically. It connects to 3G, then shares the connection via ordinary Wifi. So your laptop, iPad and anything else that uses Wifi can get online at the same time using the Mifi device. There are loads of different deals that 3 offer.

That's what I know for definite. Now the following is stuff I still need to find out. Apparently you can get the Mifi unlocked (3 will even do it for a fee). This is true, but I want to use my O2 sim card from my iPhone in the Mifi. I've still to get confirmation that this would actually work.

Sweet, this sounds good! well if i can get it unlocked and use my 02 iphone sim! tho will be anoyin not being able to use my phone.

I'm not very exchnage rate savvy, but the Currency converter Dashboard widget (last updated 14/04/2010 10:04) says that $699 is £453

Yes, that is a rate of 1.54. I was estimating the rate as an average of the past month or so. It appears to have fluctuated between 1.48 and 1.54, so I chose 1.5 as an average. And then add the 17.5% VAT on top of your £453, making £532.

I think my estimate of £549 will be nearer the mark, as I think Apple would err on the lower side of the exchange rate rather than the higher side, making it slightly more expensive over here.

I'm not very exchnage rate savvy, but the Currency converter Dashboard widget (last updated 14/04/2010 10:04) says that $699 is £453. The VAT on that is £25, so the 64GB should cost approximately £478.

I'm hoping that Apple will be able to keep the 64GB under £500, I'm still hopeful

What VAT rate do you have in the Isle of Man ? is it not 17.5% like the rest of the UK?

We have less income tax but VAT is the same, most stuff is actually more expensive becuase it has to be shipped by the world's most expensive ferry company, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.

To get £25, I divided £453 by 17.5, I then added it to the £453 to get £478.

You probably know more about this than me, this is just how I see it

Calculation on mid-market rates today would be:

64GB - $699 = £452.89

VAT @ 17.5 on £452.89 = £79.25

Total = £532

So I reckon it will be that plus 10% as another poster mentioned. Either way - it sucks to buy electronics in the UK!!

That isn't how you calculate the VAT. To add 17.5%, simply multiply £453 by 1.175 and the figure you get is then inclusive of the 17.5% VAT

All this waiting for UK pricing has obviously made people delirious

You're dreaming if you think you're getting a 64GB for less than £599.....and since this is a dream, I'll buy you one if it comes in at under that :p

I believe it was at 5% for a short period.

However according to the treasury website

On 1 January 2010 the VAT rate reverted to 17.5% in the UK and on the Isle of Man. For further information on how to deal with this change, please go to FAQ (frequently asked questions) or click here

So it is now the same.

Actual cost breakdown again + 17.5% VAT and remembering to add the now 9% additional UK/Euro Apple tax (a figure that is in nearly all the products) - breaks down like this.

$499 = £414
$599 = £496
$699 = £580

$629 = £522
$729 = £605
$829 = £688

You need to divide the figure by 100 then x it by the percentage you want. Or x it by the decimal - 0.175

Correction you times your figure by 1.175

Right, well as I say I don't really know these things. Thanks for explaining that. So do you think it's unlikely it will be under £500 for the 64GB Wifi?

I think it's not so much unlikely, more like, "not a snowball's chance in hell" of it being sub £500 for the 64Gb

^ See my pricing above.

$699 = £453 + 17.5% = £532 + 9% 'Apple Tax' (the premium we outside of America pay for our Apple products) = £580 (Approx).

Chance of it being under £500. Not a cat in hells. ;)

Hence when I paid €680 for my 64GB Wifi from Ebay shipped. I think this is pretty much a realistic figure. I would expect actual € pricing to be 650-680 regardless.

No, not in a million years. The VAT on £453 is not £25, it's £79.

To calculate VAT, do this on your calculator: enter 453, then hit multiply, then enter 17.5, then hit the percentage key.

I can't see the 64GB being less than £549.

The longer this whole thing drags on with no new info, the more I think they're holding back the price in case of a delay. If they tell us now that the 64GB, for example, is gonna be £599, then so many people are gonna import one. But if they just announce a delay and withhold the price, some people will wait and hope the "unbelievable" price comes true.

The only way I would import one is a MEGA delay or a shocking price.

If you compare prices of the Mac Mini at $599 and $799 which relate to £510 and £663 then $699 would be equilavent to £586.50.

I waiting for a 16GB 3G one for me and was hoping for a price of £499 but i think it will be closer to £549

Apple delays international launch of iPad due to "surprisingly strong US demand". Story to follow. What's your reaction
according to the Guardian twitter feed...bugger

Apple said:
CUPERTINO, Calif., April 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ —

Apple today released the following statement:

Although we have delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week, demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as more people see and touch an iPad™. We have also taken a large number of pre-orders for iPad 3G models for delivery by the end of April.

Faced with this surprisingly strong US demand, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May. We will announce international pricing and begin taking online pre-orders on Monday, May 10. We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason-the iPad is a runaway success in the US thus far.
