Blimey, late May!!!

Got mine today from simplyelectronics today! Posting this with it

In hindsight, worth the extra money I have paid

also bought a Mifi from 3 so I'm good to go with mobile 3G/wifi

I really hope the prices don't shoot up on eBay etc now for people!!!!

You don't get charged duty on the iPad, however vat of 17.5 is payable, if it is declared as merchandise and not a gift, got mine today, no duty to pay but vat of 78 quid:mad:

I don't think declaring as a gift helps much at all.

Mine's being sent the same way and the seller says they'll mark the value lower but I'm guessing they'll get it insured so that'll give it away to customs.

Will no doubt be stung for VAT when it arrives which p*sses me off a little but I am kind of past caring and wish I'd have ordered ages ago now!

I just created an account with them, only to have an additional £85 added for shipping and handling at the checkout. Total price £547.

No chance paying that for 16gb!

sneeky.........

Cheers for that!! Always looks to good to be true doesn't it!!
time to move on me thinks!

Well that made my mind up just now... Not going to bother with them, another £94 just for delivery on a 64Gb bringing the total up to just shy of £700. Where people like simplyelectronics are selling them in a shop in the UK for £750.

Ummm I doubt the prices will be £700-800 for a 64GB in the UK upon launch but when its not far off its still very tempting.

Anyone else ordering from somewhere that is shipping quick but not charging huge amounts?

On the bright side, you'll still have it a lot sooner than 6 weeks!

This is true, I was so close to waiting but after nothing at the os 4 event i ordered one from ebay and with todays delay pretty glad i did, no regrets now

I was the same way, mine was in customs for 8 days so when it was released was just a point where I wanted it in my hands. Pissed off about the vat but that's life:rolleyes:

Yes, it all looks fine until at the end of the ordering process they add $149 for the shipping. I can't see any cheaper options either.

Someone above has also mentioned the possibility of VAT being due at this end.

They quote a duty inclusive rate but does this include VAT? This could add another £80 to the cost so beware.

If you look at their terms and conditions they point out that the purchaser is responsible for local taxes.

Anyone like to call them to clarify whether 'duty inclusive' actually means that VAT is accounted for in their quoted price?

If the answer is no then I believe this company could prove to be a very expensive way of buying the iPad.

Yeah I think it might be a smidge below £600, maybe £590 or £595 or £599.

VAT is for the final point of purchase. It is always the last person on the chain that pays it; anyone else above them on the chain can reclaim it, so I think the chances of the company paying it are extremely slim.

There's no way of getting one now without paying well over the odds.
I'd pay £450 all in for the 16g buy it ain't happening.
I'm out!! ( sounds like a tv quiz show!)

Further to my last post (a couple above), it also seems to me that the compulsory little extras (such as 1 year international warranty, and how you would like the item declared for customs purposes) are extremely dubious.

I think Apple are losing the plot!

I posted earlier that I had been seriously disappointed by the company twice in the last day, first because of the poor upgrade / refresh of the 13" MacBook Pro's and then because of the delay in the international launch of the iPad.

I've just received an email from them proudly announcing the new MBP's and saying that they start at £938.83 including VAT. Actually, the cheapest is £999.

I think that they just pluck figures out of the air, and decide to charge us Brits / Europeans as much as they think we will pay.

For this reason the 'surprising success' of the iPad may mean that they set the price very high for us thinking that the market can stand it.

Gutted absolutely gutted so cross with myself was very close to getting an ebay ipad last week but held off because i trusted Apple (Steve Jobs word) now we have to wait and still no prices what a joke!

Lost a lot of respect for apple think they've dropped the ball on this one.

Back to ebay!

Clearup -> who is actually waiting for the official release apart from Myself and dino?

From 10 minutes ago - me!!

My iPad has been in customs 2 days according to the tracking

mine was on a 3 day garanteed deliver however that does to take into account customs, it took two days to reach the uk and then it should be on a 24 hour delivery, however mine has been in customs for 5 days tomorrow and it still has not been released, finally today i had a status change from awaiting charging to sent to store and back to awaiting charging again, im now hoping it gets released tomorrow.

Well I am and I am not. I have my 64gb eBay wifi ipad on it's way to me. However I will likely pick up a 64gb wifi + 3g at euro launch and pass the wifi only version on to a relative. Already have mobile data plan due to expire contract around same time so I'll wait and see what voda and o2 are offering.

With the whole warranty thing this is what i got told from a apple store worker about the macbook a while back.

If anything goes wrong with it you can bring it to us but it will need to be sent to US to get fixed or refurbished since its a US model , is this the same with a US ipad ?

If this was sent by USPS it normally ends up being handled by the Royal Mail at this end and goes through the National Hub.

Sometimes they hold on to items until the vat and handling charge are paid. This once happened to me and I only knew of it because I was tracking the shipment. If I hadn't been tracking I wouldn't have known the situation until I received a card from them days later.

I called them and paid over the phone, then they released the shipment for delivery.

Ok
is anyone contemplating getting a 3g model from the USA by one means or another? Obviously after checking they work here?( serious. Concerns about this)

Or has everyone just gone for the wifi model because they are sick of waiting.
There were loads of posters wanting a 3g model a few days ago. Surely I am not the only one left?

Posted from my iPhone because sj says I can't have an ipad yet
