Yes, you're right the other poster is wrong, the warranty is international. Don't take my word for it, one can verify it. Here are links to the iPad warranty and the optional Apple Care warranty:

standard warranty for iPad in North America:

http://images.apple.com/legal/warranty/docs/NA_iPad_Warranty_v20.pdf

Apple Care extended warranty for iPad in North America:

http://images.apple.com/legal/applecare/docs/NA_APP_iPad_English_v1.1.pdf

Nowhere in either warranties is there any provision that limited warranty service to the country of purchase. If you believe there is such a restriction, point it out.

And I quote: "Apple may restrict service to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the hardware product."

This leaves it up to Apple to decide whether to service the product. Thereby implying there is no international warranty, but it is at the descretion of each Genius. :)

No. Speaking as a American corporate lawyer, "may" means just that: "may." Until Apple does make such a change, you have a worldwide warranty. And this warranty is a contract between you and Apple as a corporate entity; its terms cannot be changed at the discretion of an individual at a store. Were Apple to change the warranty, it would have to do so at the corporate level.

Don't get caught up on the "may." That has been in there for 35 years. There are plenty of "may" clauses in all these terms and conditions. They are there not because the possibility of a change is likely but just to cover one's back (at the insistence of lawyers like me). Apple has NEVER limited its warranty to the original purchase territory in the 35 years of its existence. It's not about to start now.

Ok, well in that case I accept your point. But they have limited their warranty for the iPhone. :p

i'm in the US right now. PM me if you want to avoid ebay. I'm back 27th, or i can send one now (subject to availability).

ok im sorry to cover what is presumably old ground but can someone please answer a few questions regarding Bundlebox.

1. i know they've stopped the "Buy For Me" function for now, but i can still buy from Apple US site and send it to my Bundlebox address, right? if so how do i sign up as an american? do i just set up an account with a new email address and use the same debit card as i do in my UK account to pay for it....will they not detect that card is used on another UK based account?

2. i've priced up on the Apple US site for iPad 16GB, iPad Case and iPad Dock for $567 (that's £367 straight conversion)....so what additional charges would i face on top of that and what estimated costs....17.5% VAT bringing it up to £431, what else? anyone ordered through bundlebox know?

3. When released over here can i simply purchase Apple Care for it in case i have problems or will they not let me as it was purchased in the States?

Very true, the iPhone is limited to the country of purchase. Apple states so in their FAQ for iPhone service:

http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/#repair3

"3. Can I get my iPhone serviced outside the country of purchase?
No, service for eligible repairs is only available in the country where your iPhone was originally purchased."

But Apple deliberately does not use that restrictive language in the service FAQ for the iPad:

http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/service/faq/#repair3

3. Can I get my iPad serviced outside the country of purchase?
Apple may restrict service to the original country of purchase. If your iPad requires service, you can contact Apple Technical Support or take your iPad to your local Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, where available, for diagnosis.

Obviously, Apple uses the "may" language to leave itself some leeway but note that it then encourages you to take your iPad to your local territory Apple store for service. That's an odd way to restrict the warranty to the country of purchase, no? Had it wanted to ban international warranty service, it could have just duplicated the iPhone territorial restriction language but it didn't. I think that's as clear a confirmation we're going to get from Apple that the iPad warranty is worldwide.:)

Can I add a 4th? (sorry, i'm going to anyway lol)

4. Is it possible that it will still get held up in customs even though you have already paid tax?

you can't use an out of US billing address. I can pick you up one and send it. PM me.

Ok I am caving

Please can somone suggest a safe way to get a fellow macrumour member to help get one to me.

I don't want to get screwed. I understand the other person doesn't want to get screwed.

Any ideas on a fairly safe way ?

Pretty sure you will have to pay the tax for the state you are getting it delivered to

Blimey. Looks like there won't be many of us actually waiting for iPad launch here in the UK. I'll be waiting, pre-ordering on 10th May and will be going to Bull Ring, Birmingham for launch. Woo. I am quite looking forward to the whole rigmaroll, especially as it will be my first Apple launch i have attended.

I'm praying that its not Wednesday 26th May though as i have a History A-Level examination that morning.

Use an escrow service that will act as a third party intermediary between you and the iPad buyer. You send the money to the escrow, which holds it and releases it to the buyer after you receive the iPad. Ebay recommends www.escrow.com. It is a reputable and legitimate site.

Please, I urge everyone who cannot wait not to get carried away. Be very careful before you enter into any arrangement with anyone you do not personally know. To be frank, I would avoid it entirely and just wait. This is not to cast doubt on anyone who is offering but I think the risk is too high. I'd offer to do it myself at no cost but given my advice, I do not want to encourage people to go down this path so I won't. Patience is a virtue.:)

Hahahah! my first A Level is general studies :( I think the only day I have two exams is 27th May, on the 26th, I have no exams - lucky me. Although, I do have one exam that's just right out by itself in July, Maths: Mechanics 1, and I've got Pure 2 somewhere.

The best way is to go to ebay, type in ipad. Then sort by distance. Type in your postcode. and find someone who will let you pay cash and pick up in person.

you wont get a safer way than that.

I hear-by swear that I will not purchase the iPad until official release has occurred in the United Kingdom as per Apple's regulation.

Someone else said this earlier on in the thread, but yet other people here have used their billing address and ordered via the Apple website - for those that did, did the transaction go through okay?

Thanks very much for the useful info ddarko. :)

Well I just used the method for using a UK that someone mentioned previously to order 2 IPads using a Visa Debit card . It went through so far.. Order complete e.t.c

Is it possible they will email me tomorrow saying that payment failed though? 100% of the time on uk online purchases if the card details are wrong I get alerted straight away that the details are wrong, so the fact it went through makes me hopeful it has worked.. I do not know though :/

Anyone else used a UK card and got further on in the process?

Edit// Just been reading up on their credit card policies and it seems that they might not do a full address verification untill later on, the quote below implys they will do it after you have orderd and it could hold up the order if you have entered wrong info, so thinking maybe should use a virtual usa credit card instead.

Account verification

To prevent any unnecessary delays processing your order, please ensure that the billing addresses on your order matches the information on your credit card account. If you have recently moved or are unsure whether you receive your credit card statement at your work or home address, please contact your card-issuing bank using the 800 number on the back of your credit card to confirm.

I have the same, havn't got a confirmation email yet, have you? Got a feeling it's not going to work. Fingers crossed though..

Nope no email :/

I have however paid for a virtual usa credit card yesterday from http://www.usunlocked.com/

So if this does not work I will use that I guess..

I was going to use USunlocked to get my Ipad deliverd but the price and time taken seemed to end up a lot longer and higher then using bundle box, bad part about that virtual card though is that it can take 5-7 days for deposited money to become available :/ so I really hope my own card works... :/

I'm still waiting for the UK launch. I'm in the market for a 3g model so none of this importing business for me.

I will be going to the US this Sept but that's too far away and probably by then the rumors will be talk of Ipad 2 or something along those lines

Any email from Apple yet guys?

I bit the bullet and bought a 32Gb off of eBay for £560 with free shipping from the US. I'm not proud. There's one left with this seller if anyone is interested. eBay item number 260574005072. I was going to buy from another seller who had three available for £550 but he changed the buy it now price to £675 in the hour I dithered over it. Looks like sellers will be taking advantage of the delay from now on in.
