I take it iPad are in stock in US in every apple store, please say if not. I have someone going over next weekend as she is an airhostess and pick one up for at face value, so I am happy.
I was prepared to wait till the end of April, not the end of may! Probably end being cheaper than what they launch them in the UK!

If this was sent by USPS it normally ends up being handled by the Royal Mail at this end and goes through the National Hub.

Sometimes they hold on to items until the vat and handling charge are paid. This once happened to me and I only knew of it because I was tracking the shipment. If I hadn't been tracking I wouldn't have known the situation until I received a card from them days later.

I called them and paid over the phone, then they released the shipment for delivery.
When they hold something until charges are paid (whether that be not enough postage, or taxes, or whatever) it gets held at the local distribution warehouse rather than the national hub. The national hub has such a throughput of items that even if you've run out of postage they'll still move it on to prevent a backlog. I watched a program on TV about that hub in Coventry. It's a monster of an operation.

So todays delay announcement and the worry that the iPad will be more expensive on UK release has led me to place on order on DVDworldUSA for the 32GB wifi model.

I placed the order around 9pm so I realise that I may have to wait until next week for delivery but I feel that the price is very fair and I am a gadget lover so I couldn't hold back!

Once I have order confirmation I think I will go and order an invisible shield for the iPad. I wonder if crystal film make a screen protector?

Also one of these iPad bags looks pretty cool:

I don't know if they do UK shipping but I saw it on Bundlebox for those who are UK bound!

Not. Stock at Apple stores fluctuates. Here is a article from a Silicon Valley newspaper that says, at the time of its writing, 4 of 5 Apple stores in the area were sold out. The one store that did have stock only had 32gb and 64gb models.

Where is your air hostess friend traveling?

With the whole warranty thing this is what i got told from a apple store worker about the macbook a while back.

If anything goes wrong with it you can bring it to us but it will need to be sent to US to get fixed or refurbished since its a US model , is this the same with a US ipad ?

yep. no international warranty on the ipad. i would wait. you will be pretty pissed off if you buy one from USA and have it shipped in only to find it is faulty.

You lucky jammy beggar.

I really want one, but my US friends are away on "vacation" as they say for 3 months in france :( small problem there

Ok
is anyone contemplating getting a 3g model from the USA by one means or another? Obviously after checking they work here?( serious. Concerns about this)

Or has everyone just gone for the wifi model because they are sick of waiting.
There were loads of posters wanting a 3g model a few days ago. Surely I am not the only one left?

Posted from my iPhone because sj says I can't have an ipad yet

Other posters seem adamant that the 3G will work work here, and that the device is the same! I still want the the 3G, but I am absolutely confused!!!

Then there's the inconsistent information about the warranty. A few pages back folks on here confirmed that the warranty is worldwide!

Clearup -> who is actually waiting for the official release apart from Myself and dino?

I'll be waiting. Some of the prices mentioned above are definately "unbelievable"! Part of the attraction of an ipad is that it costs less than a laptop.

Pointless I know but
apple don't give a crap that because of their Ballsed up launch we ate paying thru the nose for this ipad. They created this.

People are now making a mint out of anyone not fortunate to live in the USA. Apple messed up royally and we are paying the price.

Is anyone actually going to wait?

You can see the next keynote speech.

" USA sales over 20 kazillion"
" rest of the world sales 3 " because we all got sick of waiting.

I hope to god that these things don't develop problems. Can you imagine apple trying to deal with sending them all back to the USA if ultimtsely that's what they decide to do.

Im just about to seal the deal for my ipad. Do they all have international warranties? Im a bit worried that if mine ****s up, im up **** creek without a paddle. Are your apple store-bought ipads with warranty?

Until somebody confirms that the US model can be used in Europe, i would hold off. you would well pissed off spending on an American 3g model that does not work over here. At present nothing has been confirmed that the 3G model is carrier free between different countries.

I would wait, see what people do, see if it works then buy one if it works out. remeber it is only a month more before the 3G is officially launched in the UK. If you buy one in the US, taking into account shipping, you will only get a couple of weeks before the official launch and you will also get an Apple UK warranty.

Remember, none of the UK carriers will have tariffs up and running before the end of May, so you will probably not be able to use 3G anyway.

Yes I appreciate I wouldn't have been able to use the 3G immediately.

So true.

We should all remember this because it is so easy to get carried away with all the hype.

It's human nature to want something more if it is difficult to get.

Remember also, before you know it every man and his dog will have one of these!

...and Steve Jobs will rule the world!

I will offer this one last time I live in the us I can go to my local apple store and get them with no tax and ship them to you people on the other side of the pond. But I will not do it for free if you want to work out something pm me and we will work it out. And no I'm not looking to make a ton just something for my trubles.

The only problem of you offering this, is that you are a newbie on this forum

I know you have a few posts and are probably legit but just that little thing under your name makes people not trust you

Im not trying to have a go, but im pointing out the little thing that will make people think twice unfortunately

however im going to PM you

I just emailed the sales guy from USA that I had been speaking to earlier last week to ask for clarification on the 3g USA version working in the uk

again I understand the 3g won't work yet.
Will let you know when I get a reply. He's usually pretty good. If I get something in writing then I am happy to buy as I have enough to get my money back if by chance they are wrong.

This delay has pissed me off.

I am considering waiting to September/October now. i think that there will be a significant price drop before the Holiday season, particularly in the 3G models as the chip they are using costs about 10 bucks with a mark up of 130 bucks.

I think a lot of people have bought much earlier than Apple anticipated and their sales channels will be stuffed in the next months. I can see this whole roll out being a major mess by apple. they do not see that a lot of Ipads are being bought by people outside of the US, imagine how many have bought from Canada, mexico, etc. nevermind from Europe. Once the system settles down, and international sales start to show disappointing returns because all those that have to have an Ipad have bought from e-bay, etc., then Apple will probably show a massive imbalance in inventories and prices will come down. It happened with the Iphone, with a price drop a few months after launch because of stuffed channels.

I can see that in September or October there only being 3 models:
16GB Wifi $399
32GB 3G $499 - 599
64GB 3G $599 -699

6 versions is not apples style and it suggest that they knew the wifi would be launched first and have tried to take advantage of people's need for the IPad. it will settle down to three like the Iphone (8GB 3G, 16GB and 32GB 3GS)

Just my two cents

I think the concern about 3G not working in the UK stems from the model's use of micro SIM cards, which are new. Will AT&T's micro SIM card function in the UK? But the announcement by Vodafone, O2 and Orange this morning that they will sell iPads in the UK eliminates any concern that UK users would have to rely on a foreign carrier's micro SIM cards.

The iPad itself supports the 3G frequencies that are used in the UK.

Then there's the inconsistent information about the warranty. A few pages back folks on here confirmed that the warranty is worldwide!

Both the one year warranty that comes with the iPad and the optional extended Apple Care warranty is worldwide. I think the confusion arises because both warranties contain a sentence that states Apple "may [emphasis added] restrict service provided under [the warranty] to the original country of purchase." But the operative word is "may." Apple doesn't restrict the warranty and in fact, both warranties then go on to discuss how you obtain warranty service in a country that is not the country of purchase. Apple reserves the right but it's just legalese; it has never restricted service to the purchase territory and the possibility it ever will is remote.

You should not be concerned about warranty service for your U.S. purchased iPad in the UK.

why do you say no international warranty???
have you proof because most others think (also without proof) that the warranty is worldwide!

So those of us with a US iPad, will the Appstore App work for us when its released here or is there likely to be complications?

App store will work as it will accept your username etc when the iPad store is opened, I'm using the us store for now:D

Yes, you're right the other poster is wrong, the warranty is international. Don't take my word for it, anyone can verify it independently. Here are links to the iPad warranty and the optional Apple Care warranty for the iPad:

standard warranty for iPad in North America:

http://images.apple.com/legal/warranty/docs/NA_iPad_Warranty_v20.pdf

Apple Care extended warranty for iPad in North America:

http://images.apple.com/legal/applecare/docs/NA_APP_iPad_English_v1.1.pdf

Nowhere in either warranties is there any provision that limited warranty service to the country of purchase (and as I wrote above, there are instructions to obtain warranty service outside the country of purchase). If you believe there is such a restriction, point it out.

So those of us with a US iPad, will the Appstore App work for us when its released here or is there likely to be complications?

Yes, the UK Appstore works with a U.S. iPad. You can even set up a U.S. iTunes account, download apps or other media from the U.S. Apps and iTune Stores, and sync to your iPad WITH all your UK applications and media. Here are instructions to setting up a U.S. account. It's for New Zealanders but it works just as well for UK residents:
