I am humming and harring about importing one now. If I have this right, for a 32gb iPad with Apple case, via bundlebox priority shipping it's £584 (including US sales tax at approx 8%) + £50 if you have to use bundlebox's buy for me option (increasingly likely judging by reports of cancelled orders from UK debit/credit cards) which comes out at £634. Have I got that right?

If you take the formula of Apple's UK prices (add 24% to the US price) the 32gb iPad with case comes out at around £500.

Have I got that totally wrong?? If not then you are paying a premium to get it from the US, rather than saving money.

I think regardless of the price, The majority who are importing them is to have them before the UK release. Who knows what the UK pricing will be. I guess all you can do is speculate

Maybe that's why Apple was saving $40,000,000,000! To erupt a volcano so that people who aren't American (and therefore in their view second class) can't get iPads

Perhaps Steve Jobs' secret base is actually under the volcano - like a Bond villain...

UK iPad fans: "You'll never get away with it, Jobs. We know your scheme, we'll just import ! Do you seriously expect us to wait for the iPad ??"

"No," says SJ, stroking a white Persian cat on his lap, ".... I expect you to DIE ! Oddjob, detonate the Volcano Erupting Device !!!"
(fx maniacal laughter)

Alright, well, maybe not die as such, but get pretty fed up with having the import plans thwarted.

The 32GB iPad is $599...which converted is £390, and the BundleBox shipping estimate for that on their website is £136 for 1-2 delivery, £121 for 4-5 day delivery, £105 for 6-14 day delivery. Those respective BundleBox charges account for shipping/duty/vat.

So that would work out at £526, £511, £495 depending on your delivery preference for just the iPad.

The case seems to be £40 all in according to other peoples orders on BundleBuzz.

So for both items to your door the maximum it would appear you'd pay is £566, though if I've got that wrong someone please correct me.

$599 PLUS US sales tax which you will still have to pay afaik.

well i was planning to order from BundleBox on Wednesday but now ive done the calculations on their site and im not so sure it's worth it...it seems in my previous calculations i was omitting both sales tax and BundleBox handling charge, DOH!!!!

16GB iPad via BundleBox

$499 = £324.775

US Sales Tax = £19.486

BundleBox fee = £34.424

£324.77 + £19.486 + £32.4775 = £376.7385

------------------------

Delivery Estimate

Weight = 3kg L = 12in W = 10in H = 3in

2-3 Working Days = £131.34

4-5 Working Days = £114.75

6-14 Working Days = £98.16

------------------------

Total Cost

2-3 Working Days = £508.0785

4-5 Working Days = £491.4885

6-14 Working Days = £474.8985

Most its gonna cost over here is £430 realistically, but i dont wanna wait

You have to also add on the cost of 'buy it for me' which looks like the only way now as Apple seem to have sewn up the chances of ordering it with UK card details. That is 10% of the value on top.

already added that mate.

Bear in mind that, between Apple shipping it to the Bundlebox and the dispatch from there to UK, its very unlikely you will get it before early May at this stage (given the current ash crisis in transport). So, the "wait" we are talking about equates in real-life to 3-3.5 weeks max. I would frankly not even think about waiting that amount of time in order to get a legit, UK iPad at a good 100 pounds less, with no warranty nags, no compatibility problems, etc.
If your iPad is not already at UK Customs right now, the "pay more, receive it early" equation does not make sense as things stand. The only thing that would make me eager to embark on the US route is Apple announcing outrageous prices on May 10. Could be the case, but I really doubt we will end up forking 549 for a 32 GB Wifi iPad as then the 3G prices would be really disgusting...

How disgusting, £800 for iPad 64GB Wifi - well, as an Apple Partner, I can see the macbook (lowest) at just £701.48, MBP @ £853.93, MBA @ £1009.33 yeah, you get my drift.

Wow, this is EXACTLY my feelings on the whole situation too.

very well put, it makes no sense for me to import now, only reason i was gonna go with BundleBox is because i omitted so many costs that it made it seem cheap lol.

Besides, im going to Florida in July so i need every spare penny (besides my iPad fund ;) )

I live in Stockton on Tees, so just a short drive from Middlesbrough, if the launch is on a weekend i may very well drive up to Eldon Square, if not then i'll just be getting my pre-order delivered to my house as i cant take any more holidays from work during the week really.

Small world. I used to live in Stockton on Tees. I was born there. Now in the North West so my nearest Apple Store is Trafford centre

small world indeed :p
Being an ardent Boro fan it does pain me somewhat to have to go to N.....Ne......Ne....New....N-N-Newcastle! *spit* to get my iPad ;)

Has anyone contacted USPS

Yup, I did yesterday and had this reply today:

Thank you for contacting the United States Postal Service regarding the handling of an International Express Mail shipment, due to the volcanic ash spreading because of the eruption in Iceland.

At this time I can confirm that service in northwestern Europe may be disrupted due to the volcanic ash spreading from an eruption in Iceland.

Regarding the status of your shipment, the latest information I have is your Express Mail International item left the United States on April 16, 2010.

International service updates can be found through this link:

I thought about the Trafford centre. But was worried about the doors of the centre opening and a mad rush at 8.30 or whatever. Do they open the doors early for apple launches?

I'm going to Liverpool one otherwise.
There is a apple retailer in Chester my nearest but it's not a proper apple store and would risk it !

They opened early for the 3GS launch it was very nice indeed. I think it opened about 7AM, nice atmosphere, no other shoppers and coffee and biccies supplied courtesy of Apple.
