Guys, if anyone is into 3G iPads, the case for ordering straight in the UK got a lot stronger - Apple Store US is now listing the 3Gs as "Shipping by May 7th", which means you could actually end up receiving them same time as the official UK ones. Makes me even happier than I am just sitting it out and pre-ordering on May 10 
Well first time poster in this thread but long time reader.
I am definately waiting it out for the official release in the UK, just too pricey for me to import. I am really keen to get the 3G version but will have to wait and see what the pricing is like on May 10th. Can probably stretch to about £450 for a 16gig 3G but if not it will have to be the wifi version.

I think the 16gb 3G might be a little more than that, not much more though. I cant see it being over £500.

Released with charges. Will be transferred to the Stoke depot by tomorrow morning then I can pay the charges over the phone and secure delivery on Wednesday morning.

Mines not changed status yet. Keep checking back and hoping! I called ParcelForce and they confirmed it's with customs for assessment at the moment so just hoping it gets released soon.

Arrgghh, mine was posted about 2 1/2 days before you and it still hasn't updated since the 'your item has left the United States' message on the 15th.
I emailed them and asked if it actually did leave the US, and they confirmed it did, but they only have the same tracking solution as we do.thats bloody ridiculous, mine has been in customs for 8 days today

Thats bad, mine was in customs from Tuesday to Friday and I collected it Saturday morning from the depot - got a big customs charge though £112 on a 32gb ipad
Unless you lie about the value of the contents then you still pay VAT on gifts over £40 in value.

If he doesnt put the correct value on the declaration, which also includes shipping and insurance costs for correct assessment of VAT then the package can be examined.
If the value exceeds £18 then you pay VAT unless it's a gift then you pay VAT if the value is over £40.

I think VAT is damned immoral anyway. VAT = Value Added Tax.... now then what was the 'added value' ? Oh yes, I remember, when they introduced VAT it replaced Selective employment tax and purchase tax. Wonderful, we are all paying 17.5% extra tax for the privilege of choosing our own jobs and being allowed to spend our own (already taxed) money in this case buying something already taxed at source.

It will be interesting to see how the new iPhone shapes up and whether it suggests new design cues for iPad v2.
It has to be said this UK delay has backed the release up into the window for an iPhone replacement. This has certainly got me reconsidering whether I purchase right now as I need a new iPhone (my Rev A is on the way out).

From the rumors flying around it looks like 4G iphone will be taking its design cues from the iPad rather than the other way around.
I was thinking that about the iPad release. But then i remembered that Steve will simiply delay the new iPhone untill iPad sales are up to wat he wants.
I don't think so. Removable battery, better/different buttons, forward camera, even glass back.
Not a chance. They're not operating in a vacuum here. Android use is climbing rapidly. This needs countering ASAP.
