I live in the UK but know someone who has a holiday home in Florida. They are there now for 2 weeks. a) Can you use a UK debit/credit card on the US Apple online store? b) It ships in 5-7 days so would it get there in time? Cheers for any info.

a) Most likely but the currency conversion might make it more expensive for you, I would pay your friend in Florida, so they can use that money to buy you an iPad.

b) Should do if they are just beginning the two weeks now, but I would ask them to pick it up in store.

Right now the main thing I am concerned with is the UK price.

i am fairly settled on a 32gig wifi only version and hope the price is about the £500 mark. Lets hope the '10th of May' pre-order and 'End of May' release hold. Will not be impressed with another delay.

I have gone off the idea of a 3g one as I wont be using the device in that way. Mainly going to use this at home.

I want to pre-order and then go the Apple store and pick it up nice and early. I'm going to be at the Highcross store in Leicester. Can't wait!

Then prepare to be not impressed! Look at the previous page there is a possibility of a delay again due to manufacturing the screens. They will make sure the US market get theirs before we get any.

iv been thinking yield rates with the A4 or the screen may be the problem for a while, looks like its been confirmed

Worst case is what will happen Apple will start pre-orders on 5/10 to ship end of May as stated. If things get bad, they will then cut off the end of May promise and push delivery into June.

So, as long as you get your pre-order in on the 10th or shortly after, you'll likely get it by the end of the month.

Don't bother ordering it online, the chance of it arriving before they leave is very minimal. When i orderd the estimated arrival time was 2 weeks after the day I orderd before they decided to cancel it. Get them to check Best Buy and Apple stores now and again but ordering online is a sure fire way to not end up getting one.

I feel for you mate. I'm in the same boat. USPS states for me:

Your item left the United States from ISC SAN FRANCISCO (USPS) at 12:35 PM on April 16, 2010

Parcelforce says:

16-04-2010 12:35 Delivery Agent - SAN FRANCISCO Left origin country

So who knows where mine is. Could be in the middle of the atlantic on a rubber life raft for all I know :(

It's the lack of updates that I find frustrating. I can understand that they might not post updates over the weekend but surely they should be able to during the week. I just hope that plane arrives tomorrow. It's been in the air an awful long time.

Just noticed this on the Apple site spec for the iPad:

Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet (3000 m)

Must be a problem using it on a plane (and nothing to do with volcanic ash).

I think that refers to an exposed iPad operating at that altitude, not an iPad operating inside an aluminum cylinder that approximates, more or less, ground level atmospheric pressure and conditions. In short, there's no problem with an iPad on a plane, as many people who have already flown with an iPad can attest (and the normal cruising altitude of a commercial jet is 30,000 feet).

I thought when you pre-order it you are paying for delivery to a specified address whereas reserving means picking up from a store?

It's turned into a good old british discussion about all things iPad, and you know what! I like that;)

There isn't a lot of news EU wise flooding through at the moment. So the advantage of chatter which is still relevant does keep the thread at the top instead of disappearing in a hole down the bottom.

Those holes make me scared... mummy.....
