I don't think so. Removable battery, better/different buttons, forward camera, even glass back.

Not a chance. They're not operating in a vacuum here. Android use is climbing rapidly. This needs countering ASAP.

We'll see, after all the delays and mis communcations of the iPad im not so sure.

Saying that, as this has been such a c**k up they may want to restore our faith by havng a perfect worldwide release of 4G iphone......but im not holding my breath.

They have better idea of demand for this. The iPad is a new computing paradigm, the delays due to over popularity are easily understood (and, dare I say, excusable).

I think VAT is damned immoral anyway. VAT = Value Added Tax.... now then what was the 'added value' ? Oh yes, I remember, when they introduced VAT it replaced Selective employment tax and purchase tax. Wonderful, we are all paying 17.5% extra tax for the privilege of choosing our own jobs and being allowed to spend our own (already taxed) money in this case buying something already taxed at source.

I don't want to be lambasted for stoking this fire, but ...

don't forget in most cases the interest on your savings is taxed too!

The fact they got it wrong can be excused. But to say 2 weeks before its EU release that it is def going ahead, only to change that a week later isnt excusble. They must have known at the OS4 conference that they wernt going to make the end of april and should have said something then.

My iPad arrived today. Typing this on it now. I got caught for €70 customs duty, but after using the device I do not mind in the least. I'm truly in love.

Am I stuffed.

Sat on a plane on a run way some where, waiting to be allowed to land in the uk would be my best guess.

Looks like mine is gonna be in customs for the duration.

On the plus side, my new MBP should be here tomorrow or Wednesday so I'll have something to keep me busy in the meantime.

9to5mac have this just posted:

While the Norwegian Prime Minister may be running his country using one (image), we know most customers in the U.K., Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain and Switzerland must wait until next month to get hold of their iPads - now it appears production problems may cause further delays in Apple's global iPad roll-out.

Citing higher than anticipated demand, Apple last week delayed introduction of the iPad until May in those key new markets noted above. Now it seems screen production difficulties are impacting the speed with which the company can ramp up iPad production.

iSuppli analyst, Andrew Rassweiler, tells Bloomberg production the 9.7-inch screen - previously revealed to be the most expensive single component of the device - is facing problems.

“We understand that the yields on the display have been low and that they’re creating a production bottleneck,” he said, adding, “once you go to 9.7 inches, it is a much more complicated process.”

The iPad screen is made by LG Display, Samsung and Seiko Epson, iSuppli says. Neither Apple nor its suppliers or manufacturers would offer comment, maintaining the customary Apple veil of secrecy.

It is worth noting the device implements some of the most advanced mobile components, some of which have never been manufactured in mass market quantities before.

“Scaling manufacturing of the iPad has been quite a challenge -- there are a number of key components that go into that device that have never before had to scale to mass-market production,” says Oppenheimer analyst, Yair Reiner.

These reported production/component inventory/yield problems lead us to speculate that iPad supplies will be limited in every territory, and true global availability may not happen for some time.

Exactly. They'll wait until you're in the Apple store just ready to hand payment over, then they'll snatch it out of your hands and tell you that someone in the US wants another one (probably to sell on ebay), so it has to be shipped back over to them as they're more important ...

I love this ipad and have already synced up my mail, got my music and videos going. Downloaded several books in both Kindle & iBooks applications, updated my pixel-mag subscriptions of games, Mac user, and digital arts. Played some games. Set up my pocket legends mmo account. Driven round a few tracks in real racing HD. Twittered and chatted on AIM. Scoured the web, watched some impressive HD You Tube videos that may ULV core duo 2 laptop can't even play.

Imported a few pages documents and messed around on Keynote.

This device rocks. The only thing missing from this and pure nirvana? 3G access. I tried using Netshare on my iPhone with the iPad but it does not work.

I won't be replacing my desktop, but this ipad does pretty much every thing I use my MacBook pro for. I know the mbp can do more, but I don't use it to do those things as I have a mac pro for that. I have decided to sell my MBP as I see it getting little use now.

random question.

will I be able to buy an iPad on finance through apple? I noticed mac minis on the apple store (@ £510 / £17.65pm) are available on it. Will it apply to iPad? Then I'll buy that and a new iPhone ;)

I feel for you mate. I'm in the same boat. USPS states for me:

Your item left the United States from ISC SAN FRANCISCO (USPS) at 12:35 PM on April 16, 2010

Parcelforce says:

16-04-2010 12:35 Delivery Agent - SAN FRANCISCO Left origin country

So who knows where mine is. Could be in the middle of the atlantic on a rubber life raft for all I know :(

Vote with your wallet and don't buy one. That's what I'm doing. All the way up 'til it gets a European release ;)

I live in the UK but know someone who has a holiday home in Florida. They are there now for 2 weeks before they return to the UK. a) Can you use a UK debit/credit card on the US Apple online store? b) It ships in 5-7 days so would it get there in time? Cheers for any info.
