If the value is over £390 then yes. Currently (and dont think it will change any time soon) the 16GB and 32GB iPads fall under that category as the 32Gb is around £388 (without sales tax).

But to be on the safe side if you put it in your hand luggage you would be fine :)

But how would they know he bought it whilst there? If it is unboxed etc, he could have taken it to the states with him, right?? In which case he may have already paid...

Not sure how this works...

Seams as the iPad is only available in the US it would be likely he brought it there. I know what you mean with he might have already paid VAT if he imported it before hand.

If the iPad is unboxed etc and is just in your hand luggage and the box is in the bin or in your big bag you would be 100% fine.
 
Or be really sneaky and mail the box with just the instructions in (and maybe the receipt) to yourself at home (not much weight, not much cost) and take the iPad, charger and cable through as hand luggage. ;)
 
The person bringing mine back from the US has got a flight booked for May 1st which is way too long to wait! In that case I might as well just wait for UK launch!

So I am going to see if we can come to some sort of agreement on posting it. Whats the quickest & cheapest way of posting it to me? How much have you paid for postage?

The only problem is, I don't want to have to pay customs charges when it finally gets here because I was obviously initially collecting the item, so for postage + customs it just wouldn't work out financially viable for me!

Please let me know your experiences of postage and customs!

Well, if a month early really is too long for you. I expect UK iPads will launch on the second bank holiday weekend in May, so 29th. Four weeks later.

If you get it posted you will have to pay customs. bottom line really. The fastest shipping (without volcano) seams to be UPS with 2 day guaranteed at a cost of around $100.

TBH unless he was due to land be4 before sat ur only missing out on one weeks use, this is assumng he wasnt due back a before now. Is one week really worth 100 odd quid?
 
They were supposed to be due back yesterday. I know it's out of their control, I just want it soo bad haha!

I guess it's not going to be worth this extra money, so I am just going to have to see it out, be brave, and wait!! And hope and pray they get an earlier flight home.

Now you say that it's not that long to pre order day is it and thereafter not too long to launch! :p How many of us are going to be hovering about at 23:59 on 9th May eager to order!! :D

What kind of accessories are you guys getting, I'm just going to get the case for now (Apple's own) not sure about anything else!
 
Got mine last Fri, truly rocks!! Glad I paid the little extra to get it a month early

Apps are at a diff level in my opinion. I bought a fair few iPhone apps but never felt like I was getting value for money, the ipad though is a diff story and I have already blown forty quid on apps!!

Graphics on games like Mirrors Edge are very impressive, blows a PS2 and prob a wii out the water
 
Selling my ipad

I'm flying into the UK this weekend (and my flight is apparently happening).

I'm thinking I might sell my 32 gig iPad and pick up another when I get back in new York as I live by the apple store it's no issue to me, also I'll buy the 3G.

Anyone interested PM me. Going to be in Chester, Brighton and London.
 
I'm happy for those of you with US iPads, but I wish we could have a different thread for discussing deliveries and eBay etc so that this thread can be about iPad EU News. If any interesting news pops up, I feel like I'll miss it because there will be pages of people talking about eBay deals and Bundlebox. All very interesting, but surely it should be in a thread about UK people getting US iPads, rather than a thread for news about the iPad release in Europe.

Thats how it started up with very little new its turn it to a support group :)
 
Anyone know of the instructions in using a UK card on the US Apple Store for delivery to BundleBox, it's a long shot but I thought i'd give it a shot!!

And what a support group! Plus on the majority of days there is no news so conversatipns spring up on different subjects

Also if you look back at the days when there has been news, or even the rumor of some news budlebox and ebay chatters disappears.

Holding out for UK release, but god is it hard not to give in and ebay one
