Ok, I'm officially leaving this thread now.

It was nice until it got a bit crowded.

Cya dino and the others!

Awesome! That is the shipping service I choose and he is shipping today, so hopefully mine will hit the UK by Friday.

If its the same shipping i paid for you will have it Wednesday. Mine was guaranteed 2 day shipping but a little ash in the air stopped the whole of the UK getting parcels ;)

What a brilliantly entertaining thread. It's almost turned into a support group for all of us iPad-starved gadget fanatics.

This is my first post here having found this thread searching for USPS shipping information to compare my iPad shipping experience with.

I've ordered an Apple iPad 16GB which was purchased from Best Buy for me by a good friend :) It shipped by USPS Express International in good time on Monday with a "guaranteed delivery date" of this Friday, 23rd! (I doubt it will arrive on time given the volcano & customs).

My tracking info so far (from USPS)
  • International Dispatch, April 20, 2010, 2:04 pm, ISC NEW YORK NY(USPS)
  • Arrival
  • Processed through Sort Facility, April 20, 2010, 6:48 am, JAMAICA, NY 11499
  • Processed through Sort Facility, April 19, 2010, 5:23 pm, CHARLOTTE, NC 28228
  • Acceptance, April 19, 2010, 12:59 pm, CHARLOTTE, NC 28269

and from Parcelforce:
  • 20-04-2010 14:04 Delivery Agent - NEW YORK -PTT - Left origin country
  • 20-04-2010 10:57 Delivery Agent - NEW YORK -PTT - Arrived at Outward OE
  • 19-04-2010 12:59 Delivery Agent - UNITED STATES AMERICA - Collected from customer

I thought this info might be useful to anyone else waiting for a USPS Express International Parcel the same time as me!

Edit: I've noticed that there's an area of tracking "limbo" that lasts on average about 36 hours between the parcel being tracked at leaving the origin country and actually arriving at the destination country. I've also read that sometimes a consignment is marked as dispatched even when it hasn't physically left the origin country yet as this somehow speeds up the customs process. My package is currently in this tracking 'limbo' and I can't wait to get my hands on it, even if there are customs fees to pay. I just wish the tracking would say something interesting like "Your package is currently driving up from Spain in the back of a truck carrying illegal immigrants" or something like that :p

Lucky you. Here's my USPS status page (been like this since the 14th)...

Label/Receipt Number: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Class: Priority Mail International Parcels
Service(s): International Parcels
Status: Electronic Shipping Info Received

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on April 14, 2010 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later.

I begin to despise USPS.

Erm you do know that has nothing to do with USPS?. That means the person you bought it off has not even given the package to USPS to deliver yet. It is the seller you should be contacting.

Usps is fast and cheap if you use express international. I paid $38 for 3-5 day delivery.

Very nice.. people keep advising me not to go wit USPS but nobody tells me why! USPS is a lot cheaper, but I'm told that items are more likely to be caught by customs with them?..

I think pretty much all ipads marked with correct value will be caught no matter who you send with. Alot of risk marking with wrong value as they might confiscate it.

My current plan is to have it wrapped up in gift wrapping and labelled as a birthday gift, that gonna help or am I wasting time? :D

No idea. I assume it could help but if you are found out it will be a lot harder to try and say you had no part in it lol.

It's being sent from a friend in the US rather than through bundlebox etc., so I can't imagine them being able to find out! Anyway fingers crossed.. I'll probably go with USPS, too reasonable to pass up.

The guy I bought it from assures me it was handed over last week and says that the USPS system is sometimes very slow in updating. This has got me quite concerned on a number of fronts!

On the other hand, he's been an eBay member since 1999 and has 100% positive feedback (200 items). I'm sure he doesn't want me tarnishing his perfect record...
