Dude I am watching your posts like a hawk as we both had our shipped by USPS on the 16th and have had no news. That Mike guy had his shipped by USPS on the 19th and has tracking now so god knows what has happened to our plane

Ha ha. I think it's joined John Locke and company on the Island...

It's murder. I've even got a app on my iPhone thats tracking the package as well. I'm hitting for status nearly everyhour now. Although I doubt I'll see any update over the weekend now.

Got my iPad, typing on it now. Haven't put it down yet, it really is amazing.

A big thanks to pbellamy, for bringing this over for me :) very much appreciated.

Need to get some US iTunes vouchers so I can buy some apps.

So very happy with this, typing is a dream.

Bah! (Nah - Congratulations!)

I'll have to suffice with typing on my Macbook Pro from a hotel's poor wifi signal. After reading reports online about the iPad's WiFi problems I'm not sure even if I had an iPad that it would pick up the weak WiFi signal, would it? My iPhone 3Gs doesn't.

Anyhow - I also have that package tracking app Widget for OSX and iPhone app. Refreshing constantly. I'm expecting to see a, 'Status: CUSTOMS IS GOING TO SCREW YOU' line but I think I know that already.

Incidentally, how does Customs work out the VAT? I presume they know not to charge duty (the iPad is duty exempt thanks to a ruling pursued by Bundlebox) but how do they estimate the value to charge VAT on if it's not written on the package? Do they guess?

Either way, I shall claim the VAT back. Grr.

I am thinking of dropping out of here till nearer the 10th as the only postings now are tracking list comparisons. With a bit of luck all the deliveries will be completed soon. And I mean that in the nicest way.
Unfortunately there are only so many thousand posts about the UK iPad that there can be. Most people who have posted here from the beginning are the die-hards though, hence the amount of people who imported when the delay was announced.

I think I am in the die-hard camp as well. I very nearly caved in, but as I am adamant I want a 3G one. I have stuck out. Plus as I have been there at the start of all the iPhone and most of the iPods so don't want to miss out at the official UK launch of the iPad.

I am sure if I had gone the Ebay or import route I would be just as anxious to know where my treasured new possession was. Equally I am looking forward to the 10th May announcement with similar anxiety. So when my email pings with another posting in the thread, you tend to scurry off to see if there is any new news or rumour. But, it's another FedEx or something tracking list. That is why I said I was probably going to drop out of the thread till something more interesting comes up, probably nearer the 10th. And when I said with a bit of luck everyone will get their deliveries soon. As I said, I meant that in the nicest way. I do hope you don't have to wait much longer as it must be agonising. You are doing well, I would be wanting to slap someone by now if I was in that position.

I'm betting they will have sent you a letter to inform you and it is in storage for the time being.

That would be really bad :(

I don't mind paying the import VAT but things like letters, poor (or nonsense) tracking statuses, fees (like Parcelforce's 'handling fee') and incorrect Customs valuations can be particularly annoying.

I'm still looking forward to May 10th though, if only to see if I did the right thing by getting one from the US :p

Guilty as charged. As a relative newbie to macrumors, I've found this thread invaluable and hope even by posting my own tracking info and updates that this has been useful to at least one other person waiting at the same time as me.

This particular thread seems to be one of the few places on the planet that actually has up to date Customs clearance information. The other that I've found being avforums - there's a UK import thread over there too that isn't quite as long.

I didn't know there was a iPad thread in Avforums I'll have to go have a look. I used to frequent it lot, it's a very useful forum. In fact early on in this thread I sent someone there who was asking about a good 5.1 amp for his Sky+ HD setup.

I'll be going to pick mine up in the morning from the depot. I asked them to hold it as I don't trust them to be able to deliver it to me. I regularly have problems with Parcel Force not coming when they say they will, so I thought it best to collect it in person as it's only about a 15 minute drive away. :)

Edit: 23:18 Customs charging

er... Have I avoided custom charges?

Just picked up my iPad from City Link and am using it now.

Purchased it from simplyelectronics.co.uk and after reading up on others experiences with them I was little concerned. Goods didn't arrive, refunds taking months to occur.

From placing the order and to getting the iPad today it was 6 days - a little longer than what their website claims but I am happy that it's here (and it's amazing).

Thats a bit rich coming from the guy that wrote this about two weeks ago:

Not nice to come back here now bitching about everyone else doing the same thing! Seriously.

Tell me where I was detailing tracking details, what I was going to do with the iPad and what I am doing with the iPad.

Erm. Well we had quite a few posts off you telling us when it had arrived and what else you got free with it. Then you went off an a tangent asking for advice on matters COMPLETELY UNRELATED to the iPad.

Seems you basically want to tailor make the forum to fit your needs and scr3w anyone else that dares to stray off topic - if talking about the iPad in the EU is off-topic.

Come on now fellas let's not fight in here. We don't want to get the thread closed down. It's such a treat to have a thread populated by mostly brits it'd be a shame to lose it now.

On a related note: COME ON CUSTOMS YOU B*****DS!!

To think, wasn't it supposed to be today 24th April that was the heavily rumoured launch date! Oh well, bring on May 10th! I've got a few trips for July and August so looking forward to using my 3G!!

Slightly off topic, but how do you create a US iTunes account from the UK? I want to download iBooks and some other free stuff, but of course you need a US credit car.
