I bought a US Gift Card Code off eBay. They provided me with an email address and password to login with, and I had £25 to spend. Couldn't be easier. All took just a matter of hours!

Most valuable though, was all the free apps I immediately then had access to due to the US account. Also, Angry Birds HD worth it's weight in gold ;)

Who supplied the login? The card seller, or does the card itself provide a login? I've never actually used a card before.

I'm curious because there are a load of cards on eBay, but none of them list specific details about how it works outside the US.

And I realise this is getting off-topic, so I won't go on about it. Feel free to send me a private message.

Yup, just over two weeks to go now. Bring it on !

I'm even more excited about the iPad now (if that were possible) that there is news filtering out about the camera connection kit supporting usb headsets and class compliant audio devices. I have a class compliant usb mic from Blue that could work thanks to that little gem. If it does I'll be well pleased. My iphone 3gs runs for cover every time the drummer starts up (no input gain setting for the internal mic, bah), so to be able to record rehearsals without distortion with gear I already have (plus an iPad that I already want) will make me a very happy bunny.
 
You can create your own itunes account for the US itunes..on your desktop make sure you're in the US itunes site and attempt to download a free App. You'll be offered the option to sign in or sign up. Select sign up, provide a different e-mail address for yourself, (one that works). If you just want the free stuff, select "none" for the payment options.

I've now tied my US itunes account to paypal so I can buy stuff via my US paypal account!..
 
Thanks for the replies on the US store. I presume you still need to fake the address, zip and phone though, even with a card?

But to register in the first place, even if you click "none" under payment type, you still need to enter an address.

Or by using a US gift card, does that part of the account registration disappear?

Sent you a PM with details of my purchase. I paid £25, and in return I got an email with password. Everything else taken care of for me, just the way I like it ;) 15mins later, I'd spent it all!
 
Thanks. Still stuck on the address part, won't accept a valid US zip code (says it must be valid, eg C1014AAD, or just the 4-digit numerical part, eg 1014.

I thought US zip codes were 5-digit?

Just google the address of any famous hotel in the States and use that. That's what I did.

The Waldorf, New York?
 
Okay, all done. For some reason iTunes was glitching on the zip code all the time (asking for 4 digits instead of 5), but I came back to it later and it worked.

Cheers! Now, back to discussion of UPS tracking notifications...

Mine's still saying awaiting customs charging :( Could be in there for a while I guess and I suppose I can expect a letter with charges before they let it go so I guess i'm looking at the back end of next week probably.

You could try ringing Customs. If they have sent a letter then you might be able to 'preempt' the letter and pay it before it arrives.

Oh my god have you been to their website? How baffling and torturous is that! Plus they're not open on the weekends apparently.

You shouldn't just use any address. You should use an address in a state where there is zero sales tax such as Delaware, Oregon etc. No sales tax = more money to spend!

You'll need to somehow get to the US site. I've created mine from remote desktop to my US server.

it's easy... just go to paypal.com and sign up. Just make sure to select USA.. oh and yes you'll need as US postal address...hotels are good :)...
