For those waiting on USPS/Parcel Force

26-04-2010 05:04 International Hub RELEASED WITH CHARGES
25-04-2010 11:41 International Hub AWAITING CUSTOMS CHARGING
25-04-2010 11:41 International Hub AWAITING CUSTOMS CHARGES
25-04-2010 11:36 International Hub Arrived in destination country

Woot.

I hope it can get up to Newcastle before 5pm so I can send someone to pick it up for me while I am at work. Will also be ringing at 8am lol.

Thanks to Cyberheater/MacRy/Reser & MikeWilson for keeping me sane (letting me know I'm not the only one in the same boat waiting on USPS)

Mine was shipped on the 15th, then appeared to sit in limboland saying departed US, and Parcelforce saying "advised" i.e. they no about it - but not got it.

Mine has just hit customs for charging as of lastnight - 10 days after being picked up buy USPS.

Just in case anybody else is in the same boat .........

cheers,

Apparently i cannot pay customs chargers till it gets to my local depot. And even then they might not let me pay without the letter from customs first. He said I can try and gave me thier number but said it is at their discretion if they let me or not..

Also said it will not be at my local depot till late tonight after they have closed which sucks.. I will still be checking to see if they get there before 5pm.

With ups they let you pay cash or cheque to the driver or when it's out for delivery you can ring up and pay with cash! You asked about doing this?

With my experiences from the past they at least don't if not requested. Last time I delt with customs charges they did not even send me a letter so I had no idea. Did not realise they even had it till over a week after they got it and i rang them. Tracking did noteven say it had customs charges or been held, very annoying.

I phoned at 8am this morning and they let me pay the charges over the phone without me receiving the letter. £101 ouch! I'm due to pick it up today at some point. Excited much?

So for you guys paying extra charges whatever to get the ubits four weeks ahead of the rest of Europe, can it actually be worth it. Or the ones worried about ebay rip offs. Pity they don't teach patience at school

They got the dough, so why not ? Patience is only a virtue if you're a child or a church goer in my book. ;)

I nearly cracked this morning and went to ebay in anger, as I am having a crappy day so far (who says retail therapy only involves shoes and clothes for women ? lol). But so close to the official launch just means to import now would be foolishness for me. I don't have to dough to splash on the extra costs. If I did, I probably would have done it by now.

Just wondering will some of these early adopters feel foolish when in a month every man and his dog will have a hassle free ipad at the actual cost theyre worth

or will they still have received them cheaper than Apple selling them in their own country?

Personally, I think due to the weak pound at the moment, those who have paid that "extra" will find it probably comes out at about the same cost as it will retail in the UK.

Hmm. Maybe a lack of patience is a childish trait... as is jealousy.

Jealousy probably is, but thankfully I don't suffer from that. I've discovered over the years, the better things in life are worth waiting for. With time, some here will discover the same. I'll have an iPad in a month no problem there and with absolutely no grief along the way. Life is good

Or that she needs her own and to stop playing with yours!! :D

I tell her that all the time, she never seems to listen

Mine just asked me which one she was getting.

Haha! Maybe I should just buy two and then she can't give me any hassle...Genius!

Here's a question, what's the first app you'll be downloading when you receive yours on your doorstep?

Probably something with maps and GPS which is why I am getting the 3G and have waited so long. If the 3G had been available I might have caved in and imported or Ebayed. Sod the expense. I can afford it.

Already bought iwork apps for it... I'm so impatient.

A Real shame is that your can't buy Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy for iBooks :(

Also looking to write "Don't Panic" in nice friendly letters on the back :D

Here's my question - I have enough airmiles to get to New York return for free... so even throwing in a hotel and expenses, I wonder if it might be cheaper to do that than to buy a UK-released model, when they come!

Of course I am jumping the gun I think - until the UK price is released, nobody knows, and besides there is always the chance I get to New York only to find all the stores out of stock of the 3G model (which is the one I want) if I go too soon after its US release.

Of course if I could crash on a friend's couch in NY for a couple of nights, that would make it even more economical.
